1.6 and condition zero have just that (and i think css still has flashlights as well) and it rocks cause it allowed condition zero's de_inferno to be set at night and its literally the prettiest map in any counter strike game ever

off topic but I'm actually angry , CS_office isn't set up in a snow storm... There's very little interaction going on outside so this would not affect the gameplay too much , but it would be so cool to have a big contrast between the warm office spaces and a massive snow storm outside... I remember playing CS_office for the very first time in 1.6 and , as a little kid, this is exactly how I felt, looking through the windows and seeing the dark skies.. Now, in CS2 , they even removed the very few snowflakes that were in csgo... It honestly doesn't even feel like a snowmap after all... I hope they do a better job with militia (when they'll release it in 10 years...). That map can't be competitive so I hope they go full casual on it and bring it a big snow storm (damn, it might be actually a valid solution to help the CT get into the mansion easier, without getting killed by auto snippers from the roof...) But yeah... the competitive aspect of cs2 kills all the fun

Dude, CS2 being hyper competitive is fun and all but it seems like the whole community servers is filled with very few actual players. Why can't we have more hostage maps to chill in regular comp? FFS you can't even play Italy except in casual. I mean fuck it, casual it is but give us more hostage maps. I can't even find a surf server with players. Like this game isn't the CS I knew.

This is a topic normal people don't care to listen to so don't mind me.) I came back to CS like 3-4 weeks ago from a roughly 16 year break from competitive CS 1.6 / Source and what I found is the community surrounding the game now is completely different. It's like there's no sense of belonging outside of just "playing the game" or being an "esports / streamer / skin nerd" and it's like everyone is a minute away from going postal from the risk of their dopamine rush dropping .1%. It shocked me how everyone is so trigger happy on the vote player kick in casual matches. They all seem to have an aneurysm every time someone goes afk for 30 seconds, or even the stronghold of autism that must comment every time someone is using an auto sniper. It was a big reminder that this generation is fueling daily on instant gratification. Like bro... this is a fkn casual match, why are you so disconnected to and irritated by other people just existing? This is mfkn counter-strike, you get awped, you get knifed, people go afk, you get tag sprayed and T-bagged, you die in a micro second. Go play Call of Duty or Fortnite if you can't handle it. Heck, Valve even made the round time abysmally small to cater to them. I have TWO MINUTES to overtake 10 terrorist throwing smokes every 20 seconds in office? And they have the nerve to complain when people don't do the objectives. Valve... what have you done?! Early on, when I was 12-13, I would sometimes spend 20-30 minutes walking around shooting the walls, practicing my corner jumps shots, waiting for the bros to join my favorite servers so we can frag all night. How the hell do you make friends when you're limited to playing with randos for just a few minutes? I used to have a favorites list of servers that I spent countless hours playing with the same regular folks and making connections. When I started playing again, I saw the wave of negativity surrounding CS2 and how "Valve killed CS"... I was... unimpressed to say the least. Did google results make it impossible to figure out that 'csbanana' then 'fpsbanana' now 'gamebanana' has over 20,000 items that are downloadable for 1.6; which none gets you banned; and ALL are completely free? You used to be able to make CS your OWN experience, with hundreds of private servers hosting different plugins and maps and you're gonna sit there and tell me that having any ability to modify the game being locked behind a paywall, or hidden in the closet/workshop like a defective kid in the 1800s, is an improvement and you're crying because of fkn "server subticks"? A really cool experimental approach to competitive game programming? CS2 is incredible, the engine, the graphics, the play mechanics, etc. The thing that killed CS is YOU. YOU asked for this. When Valve said, "ok! no more custom maps and skins and stuff" with CS:GO when it launched you said "yes papi, sell me skins, papi" and the rest is history. I've been here since 1.3. My steam account is older than the creation date on shown on my profile since Valve didn't honor the creation date for Steam beta players. I played with the NIP guys and ringed for many CPL clans. I was called for practice and got join offers from respected clans all the time. I was featured on leaderboard sites that are so old I can't even find them on the wayback machine anymore. I was banned from around a third of WON servers under 100 ping in my region. I was "CS2 pro" level good before KZbin was even a thing. It's just too bad because it was a different time back then and I decided I had other priorities... So ya, I know counter-strike. It's the children (and Valve) who are wrong. At least now I get to enjoy the game again, despite its modern deficiencies, since I get to coach my nephew who's just as insane as I used to be as his age :)

Office could look good with rain too, rain would cover only 25-35% of the entire map and there are not much places where it rains that could reflect anything at all, since walls are made out of bricks and bricks arent made of a material that will reflect everything. Office is one of my most favourite maps, first one is the winter militia (gosh it looks so beautiful with that night skybox, calm winter atmosphere and calm indoor atmosphere), office is on the second place and aztec & ancient take the third place (i am in love with aztec culture + rainforest atmosphere), and i also can't forget to include insertion2 for it's autumn school days atmosphere. Rain would add that "cozy october evening" feeling to office, office looks really comfy with it's soft walls, old furniture and a bit of simplicity in building style Just imagine sitting inside the T-spawn on those soft couches while rain lightly hits the windows behind you, that will make you fall asleep in under 5 minutes I might be an enjoyer of rain, but I also love snow, and office would look absolutely amazing if gameplay would take place during a snow storm

Interesting fact - in Russian language (and probably other eastern Slavic langauges as well) - instead of "sunshower" we call it "mushroom rain" (грибной дождь/gribnoy dozhd). The rain is called "mushroom rain" because, according to folk legend, mushrooms grow well after such a warm and not heavy rain.

That rainfall map you mentioned was actually made by a Russian youtuber that already made 3 maps, 1 for csgo which was accepted and was played in wingman in 2021 (called Blagai), second one is Rainfall, it was originally made for CS:GO but the layout and visuals weren't the greatest so when CS2 released he started working on a revamp, that revamp is in the video, the third map is Foroglio which was solely made in CS2 and also is a good map, and also all of these are wingman maps (I think) so yeah. I would like for you to make a vid on the other maps

In newer cs games rain is manually made while in 1.6 was an entity called env_rain which did all the job for you

I did add snow to my map back to csgo days in 2017, rain or other weather in source engine is handled by func_precipitation as brush entity which give more control where should be rain on map, but in CS2 you must what you said manually and source 2 tools and features are inconsistent which sometimes lacks or broken like for example func_shatterglass which dosen't work in CS2 but in HL:A works.

When we think of a place, we usually think of it in dry, sunny environment. This is more or less what most people think we have to imagine something. But it doesn't have to be the only norm. Especially for games. We can add seasons, weather (like snow and rain). Add different times as well. Night, morning. Yes, it's not something "normal" or what we usually see in counterstrike but the game has been out for a long time and we don't see anything regarding it. Even a couple of maps for casual game would be good enough for most. Many people say that it's not competitive anymore. But 1) all the players will experience the same thing 2) you are the one who is selecting the maps - if your computer isn't powerfull enough or you simply dont wanna, then dont, but make it an option. The cs (all together) has been out for like 20 years? and we are experiencing the same problems and the lack of content.

5:45 I strongly disagree, I think a I know a way how to implement heavy rain with good visibility. You can make some kind of indoor map: a hotel, museum, an appartment complex; with a lot of windows so you can clearly see that the weather is quite wet outside, or a closed indoor Metro, which is getting slitghly flooded If you still want make a outdoors rainy map, I would like to suggest some kind of Neon-city vibe, like Kong-King from TF2. You are not going to loose a lot of visibility when literally every corner is lighted with quantillion neon ad boards and signboards I hope I did inspire and gave someone an idea of what the want to create
