I'm absolutely captivated by the sense of style that radiates from every aspect of your presence! It's not just about the clothes-it's the confidence and flair that truly define what it means to be stylish. Also, I must say, I'm a huge fan of your paintings and KZbin videos. They add a splash of creativity and inspiration to my day. Keep up the fantastic work!

Hullo SLEW, I believe that you are doing a phenomenal job with your art journey! I remember when I saw you take the chance and set up your studio way up north! I remember when I was working in a garage with no heat nor air conditioning! I managed to create some wonderful art pieces that when I showed people wide angle shots of where and how I was working they simply could not believe it! I hope you continue to create and enjoy sharing your artistic journey with us. I am excited to see how your studio transitions to a teaching space going way beyond just KZbin! You keep creating and going for it! Stay well, be safe and enjoy your life!

Really enjoyed your thoughts on what success is in the art world in 2024, and for you. It makes a lot of sense that you would value a channel as a means to keep creating over the 'value' that being popular with certain collectors and galleries would give your work. After you've said it, it seems obvious to me, and a great way for talented freelance creative to realise their vision, independent of elites who may not have the best interests of artists and their vision at heart. Thanks- I'm subscribing.

I seriously love being able to interact with Folks whilst I create projects and still so early into my journey, it's costing me money NOT making it! lol ... but the more I do this, the more I love it and I have started considering how to continue & hopefully make money some day for it ... The idea of creating something that someone lets rot in a warehouse or alike for a perceived gain in financial value, makes me sick to my stomach! Slew, you are one of the Artists whom were my inspiration for creating an Art Ch. here on KZbin. I Thankyou for that! It really is great to see how far you have come!

What up Slew! It was a good rant. I have to agree with you. I would rather paint and enjoy the freedom and love of doing so. With the obvious requirements of life being set up to be taken care of, so that I have those freedoms, i.e. "bills". If galleries or collectors come calling, then cool, but that's not the main drive. Peace, tranquility and the love of creating. I understand why some artist move out to the country to create. A vision I have for myself. I'm not able to do that at this point, working towards. Be you brother! I enjoy learning from you, the old man that I am.

So important to find fulfillment and to work for yourself. It's great to see artists -- whether that's painting, welding, woodworking, or whatever -- being able to support themselves and not have to work multiple jobs to pursue their passion. KZbin really created a shift in money-making opportunities for artists, which was much needed.

The moment i think i have made it needs a few things: -I am able to pay my bills/ provide for the lifestyle i want -I am able to take on or reject whatever projects i want to -I have collaborated with different people/ brands (deminsion 20 or critical role) Because they seem like great people to work with and make things that i enjoy. My art journey has been a long and winding one, but now i think i actually have a heading if that makes sense.

Preparation in painting is def one of the most important things to do before even starting. Whether thats painting a portrait or painting a wall. The wall is going to look horrible no matter what colour you paint it, if you dont sand down and patch the holes first 😝

I love this painting! Seeing how much you've improved since I started watching you in 2020 is so inspiring! I have a question for you, has doing all these self portraits over the years changed your perception of yourself? I've only done one self portrait and I found it so hard! I unintentionally exaggerated parts I like less (gave myself a big ol' nose and a loooooong face! Ha!)

I will say this….I believe this was your most well executed self portrait ever! The likeness was spot on, and the details stood out. It still has the painterly quality which gives it the appeal of a good painting. Only one thing that caught my eye, was that most elves tend to have longer hair. (Not always, but pretty much) I would love to see you stretch your imagination on that just a bit. As for what you were saying in regards to what an artist would want most from his work, I agree, we all tend to want that recognition in the form of praise and/or money. I have said it before, that if money were no object, I would still paint, in order to put my work in the public eye, and just see what reaction my work gets. But, we do have to make a living. I did like your analogy of either taking $10,000. for a painting, and no one but the buyer would see it, verses, selling a painting for $2,000. but everyone gets to see it, possibly opening up room for more sales. Oddly, I get approached by clients, who try this technique to get me to lower my price on a commission. Their argument being that if I seek it to them at the lower price, they will tell the world. I can’t live by that rule. Not on the promise that I may get more sales, because the fact is, I never have gotten those huge sales from word of mouth. But what you suggest, is that it works within the confines of social media. And I do agree that since you are in control of what you do, where you post, and how you market your work, the chances are you will make more money, just because you got that exposure. So yes, I would probably do that. I have made deals in the past where I lowered my price on a commission, but it was so I could retain the rights to print on said painting, and therefore make more money. You have done so much in 6 years. Not only your skill as an artist has improved, but your expansion of your love of art, through classes, videos, and having your own studio. Keep up the good work!❤❤

all i want is enough money to feed the family and to have the time to paint what i really want to paint. if i could choose a way to paint what makes me happy, but get paid and no one sees it, and i do not have to do all the videos posts and conversations, i would choose that option. 😂 being a happy ghost.

Interesting thoughts. To me social media is 'amusing fluff' but fluff all the same. To put it differently, you can make mediocre art but if you are good at making tiktok shorts you can still have a massive following. Seeing that I am not about the quality of the socials (I suck at them btw), I'd rather focus on making great art. For everyone, the focus and what provides fulfillment is different of course. Glad that you are doing the yt stuff so I can enjoy! ;-) But if you ask me, I'd rather make the 10grand with no following than 2grand and 2 million views. PS my art is not that great either so for now it's completely hypothetical. But give me some time ;-P PPS great painting; I like the rich dark blue and the contrast against the skin tones.
