The beginning of the video made me hopeful that you weren’t really being that misleading but then after watching the rest of the video I can say that it’s very misleading a better video title would simply be ‘A Introoductory Guide to Canvy’

'I dropped out of college to become an artist - here's how'.....by making a website with canvy, who I've just become a brand ambassador for.... 😐 was kinda expecting this video to be about how you made your path as an artist, not how to use a website (btw canvy looks like good, I'm not dissing them, just the misleading title) Obviously sponsors/investors are a good way for artists to get paid, maybe you could talk more about the process of that? Like the business side of things, proposals, how to approach companies, what to expect, etc. You're obvs good at it, would be great to hear how you deal with that side of things 🕊🌿

@@barrythawn3083 Y'all need to chill if you've been following Slew you should know he purposefully makes click bait titles loll nothing new and he's spoken multiple times about how he became successful and he does touch on it in this vid he explains to be consistent. everything else that he did won't be as useful to you guys starting out because everyone starts from a different point. If you were disappointed by this vid he has a shit ton of others where he talks about his path as an artist. Don't disrespect my man SLEW he's the most hardworking and passionate person in the art industry at the moment (in my opinion) and he also needs to make these promo vids for money which is what he was legit talking about this whole vid this was just marketing so chill.. Knowing slew he released this video just to stay consistent and for money he's probs working on like 3 different massive projects that we'll hopefully see soon
@tigs66392 жыл бұрын
@sara sadien, its not disrespecting him to point out clickbait titles, if anything you could say it's disrespecting his audience to trick us into watching his videos by pretending it's about a different topic. Respect goes both ways, respect your audience and they will respect you. Especially if he wants to present himself as authentic, clickbait titles are the opposite of that. And it's a shame because obvs he works really hard with all the different projects he works on, so it's like, why even do clickbait titles? It's so unecessary...! We're gonna watch your videos anyway.....it just leaves you feeling like you've been tricked. If he's really proud of being a brand ambassador for canvy, he should have made a video talking about that, instead of pretending this video was something it's not. Or he could have made this video about the importance of setting up a website, and still got the canvy ad in. Either of those would have been more genuine and useful. I've followed slew for years, I want him to do well. I'm not saying this stuff to be mean or disrespect him. I know you're sticking up for him coz you're a fan, but so are we....🌿🌻

So here’s the thing….if Facebook, Instagram, KZbin, Deviantart, personal website,are all good platforms, and for the most part free to use, why do anything else? I ask, only because I’ve been on all of these platforms, and honestly, except for a few small sales on Deviantart, I’ve not made any sales. I rarely followers. Granted posting more gets things out there, but oddly, if I’m creating art, I’ve not found it easy to post as often as I like. So what has happened, is that I create work, go to art shows, and that’s where I make sales. Mostly because people see my work in person, and they meet me. And to be honest, I can’t sell art where I live. That’s a whole other topic there. Bottom line is, if after doing all the posting I can, on practicality all social media, (not KZbin or ticktock, cuz that involves recording as I work, and I have not gotten the hang of that yet) why would I pay for another site, to try and sell my work? Granted the user interface is cool, but on my website I could potentially do the same thing. Oh it may not be as streamlined as Canvy, but it would get the job done. I’m only asking, because in the 5 or so years I’ve watched your videos, you have jumped from just a few pieces of art here and there, to selling merch, and moving to a huge studio, doing even more great pieces. I commend you on your success, I just find it hard to keep adding more social media to my work, when the ones I use pretty much leave me high and dry. Thanks so much for what you do! ❤️❤️

So from your comment, name and bio pic it seems like you are possibly digital illustrator. Canvy to me seems like it’s great mainly for fine art such as paintings so you can showcase how the painting will look in a collectors home. I feel you on how using social media can be overwhelming, and a struggle to learn. Someone once suggested to me to pick one platform and focus on it. Also, this sounds counter intuitive, but when you focus on sharing for the fun of it and the community you make rather than the sales, that’s when you start making the sales. Best of luck to you!

So I'm a full time artist for a studio who paints for other well known artist. There's a team of us, we do big installations, walls, fine art etc. I make a very comfortable living painting like this. I think its a part of the industry that people don't want to admit. We represent a couple different fine artists that you would see across the biggest galleries around the world. The pieces we work on sell for millions. But art is priced by the name of the artist and not the quality of the work. There's a big avenue for artists that want to paint and still live middle class. Take Jeff Koons for example, he employs 100+ artists to work on his pieces.

I have heard of artists getting illustration work with literary agents, and I'm not sure if there are other industries that work with agents to hire artists. Have you ever worked with an agent or know of other artists who have? It would be interesting to hear about how artists have gotten the attention of agents or galleries or even marketing companies in order to promote their work.

The advice you've given here is well worth it, even though some commenters seem a bit miffed, which is their loss! Actually he did in the beginning of the video. You are just mad bc he doesn't talk about it extensively like he does about Canvy. Which, in all honesty was apart of his VERY unorthodox journey to becoming a full time artist. The marketing is the most important aspect of it that came AFTER him having a full time job after college while creating his art in his old studio and then documenting his process for content on KZbin. THEN comes the paid sponsorships along with other ways to generate income. You SHOULD know how this youtube thing works when it comes to titles by now. If not shame on you! He at least changed the title bc of entitled little %^&#$#as like yourself who can NOT for the love Buddah comprehend too well these days. So, he actually did "one bit" talk about it. Again, you FAILED to either miss it OR as previously stated are just too mad bc he didn't go into great detail like he has in OTHER videos............look it up! For PHUCK sakes!
