I went through similar thing too. My left ear was the best ear for hearing aid. 2020 is when I realized that I was relying on lip reading more and more. That is when I decided to get my right done in 2020 and my left in 2021. I am 46 now best thing ever. Even tho I still struggle understanding people when they are not looking at me. But I hear everything, most beautiful thing in the world.

Best decision for me. Im so happy with mine. Can hear cellphone now and are able to work alone in the shop.

This week I became a candidate for an implant. Next week I have an appointment to meet my surgeon and I they said I mght be picking out which processors that I want. The only thing that I'm nervous about is the surgery itself. I know I shouldn't be neverous. I know surgery is designed to help me. The other thing I'm nervous about that might not work. I have a hard with trusting any type of doctor but my doctors that I have for my hearing have been great thus far. Hopefully I'm implanted sometime this year.

Good to hear things went well for you with the CI implants. I’m scheduled to have my left side implanted in about two months and I’m a bit apprehensive because of all the people that have talked about odd noise you get in the beginning after initial of the first days after being turned on. Your experience has helped change my thoughts and fear of what to expect. I guess I should give them a chance and let my brain get used to them.

I had the same thing happen a month ago . Woke up one morning and my left ear was muffled. I got into an ENT two days later and was given three steroid injections in my ears but no change after a month. I’m now waiting for an appointment in D3cember to see if I qualify. I also made it 50 years with hearing aids and no changes til I woke up one morning. I’m looking forward to getting my CI if I qualify. As a working musician this was hard. I can still play but it’s really challenging with one not so great ear and one muffled ear. Thanks for posting this video. I’m glad I’m not the only one with this experience.

@@robgellner7707 Yes, Sunnybrook is where I went. Dr. Lin did my first surgery. Dr. Nedzelski performed the 2nd one. Either way, you'll be in good hands.

My implant was done last october , still getting improevment each month with voices and phone usage. My deafness was from tumors pressing on nerve started 30 years ago. Mri's didnt show anything untill 2020 . Everyone is different due to health like diabetes, type of loss but the outcome in most cases is good. Some hearing is better than nothing.

@@BrianJohns I started with apps fpr my phone, Angelsound , Wordsuccess , called 611 and 211 and practice phone calls going though menus. Spent four hours a day practicing. Each day the sound improved. First week it was just a buzzing sound then boom I started to hear birds, water flow, door knocks door bells, and now words and music .Got excited hearing my turn signals after 30 years.

Hi Brian, Thanks for sharing your story. I want to know that what caused deafness while your mother was 13th week pregnant. Were you deaf on the right side when you were born and left was okay then it went down suddenly as you said. Was that the case? Have you got implants in both of you ears?

My mother had rubella at that stage of her pregnancy and I was born deaf in the left ear and with severe hearing loss in the right. I have implants in both ears.

@@BrianJohns My daughter has severe hearing loss on the right side, left is fine but dr says its good if she gets implant on the affected side because the good ear could deteriorate anytime during her lifetime because of the cmv virus. That virus is the cause of her hearing problem. I am just searching here and there to see what opinion others have and how it works. I have watched some other videos as well on your channel, thanks for documenting those moments.

How is the sound different than before since there is less stimulators so to speak than a actual cochlear. Are their certain sounds/pitches you used to be able to hear eith your hearing aid that you cannot now that you jave the implant?

At first the sound was hard to make out low volume whisper , I thought this was it, sucked bad. Now 9 months later the sounds are mostly clearer than my ordinal hearing. Started with cow bells on you tube they all have their own frequency or note. I didn't hear any echos until a month. The way it was and now is no Comparision. There are no rules just use it.

Long story short: after you get used to the CIs, I have found that the clarity with CIs is far superior than hearing aids. There is no comparison. That said, it's not instantaneous. It takes time but it's worth it.
