I am not a big content creator or anything, so that's a lot of views to my eyes, I initially just posted this to share it with some people on a discord lol PS: Don't mind the title too much. I came up with this simply because I love doing skips in metroidvanias so it's subjective

I skipped some doors with sarmiento and centella little bounce hitting the wood to get enough height, and others with the jump atack of ruego al alba if you can lure an enemy to do it, but never tought about using that spell as a bouncing platform

It improved gameplay-wise, and i love the new ways of how the "metroidlike" part is executed, but i feel like this feels less... dark. Compared to the 1st, you aren't fighting eldritch horrors anymore, the boss fights merely feel like 1v1 anime fights, not even Crisanta didn't feel like that. Also, this may be petty, but i dislike the less variety of execution animations, it feels a lot less brutal. Still love the game and it's improvements, though the feel of it is kind of ruined. If it gets a 3rd game, i hope it brings back the fucked up aspect of the lore that the 1st game set in stone.

Blasphemous 2 felt more like a generic fantasy game compared to Blasphemous 1. The first one felt like it had more of that gothic corrupted Christian theme.

Can't agree. We have very similar ways of doing final boss battles in both games. First phase is magical easy-to-beat guy Second is the long battle where you have a few little windows to do damage (Final boss of second game pretends in his 2nd phase to be like Isidora, but he isn't ) Third (if we talk about the true ending of the 1st game) is you fighting some eldritch shit in bizzare decorations and this is another long fight like the 2nd phase Really don't see the difference

I respect the 1st games lack of one. Almost like they wanted to avoid adding power up tropes that all other metroidvaina's "have" to have in them. Almost like with wanted to prove the game is capable of standing on it's own two feet without them. Which funny enough helps add to the power fantasy when you DO get the double jump in the second game. It's a very pleasant surprise. Almost like abstaining from cheap thrills ultimately yields a more satisfying reward down the road.

This game is way better than the first one. Improved movement, combat, area design, better prayers/quick verses, better enemy placement and navigation through the world. I really wanted to like the first one more but walking around in the that game is a chore. Never bothered getting the good ending and I skipped the DLC.

It’s a sequence break, but not really important since you’re just getting an item immediately without backtracking

Yeah it doesn't do much on it's own, it's just a showcase of a potential speedrun/challenge trick. I just wanted to share a bit of my discoveries But yeah you still get an item earlier than intended though (and open a shortcut I guess) even if it's not a really important item

Why does Penitent One look like a bodybuilder now lol. The game is very anime looking compared to the first. I still prefer the first honestly. It felt a lot darker and the enemy + NPC designs were just better. Blasphemous 2 looks a bit too cartoony for me, it even uses anime cutscenes, which doesn’t even match the in-game art. Still a great game, but very different from the first. It’s like Blasphemous 2 was developed with a more anime aesthetic.

I very much agree about the art direction being significantly stronger in the first game. Or at least, I definitely prefer it. Better atmosphere, cut scenes, and story. But from a design perspective, this game takes the cake. In pretty much every way. Either way, I'm happy to have incentive to re-visit both. Ooooh, and the soundtrack is top shelf.
