I think it was best that KotOR III was cancelled, because then it would grow overshadowed by another Star Wars project released in 2005, that being Revenge of the Sith. Personally, I think Revenge of the Sith is the best of the prequels and deserved its place instead of KotOR III.

It really does baffle me that both Bioware and Obsidian pitched KOTOR 3 and both got rejected. Obsidian: Hey, EA. We've got this idea for a game. It's a guaranteed bestseller since it's a sequel to two extremely popular games. We're all very excited it, we have a passionate team and a vibrant fanbase, and we have some great ideas for it. We expect that this game, if we get it right, will make us all enough money to buy our own private islands and turn us into living legends within the gaming community. What do you think? Drew wrote Revan. So I imagine a much grander, alternate ending Revan novel is what we would have gotten, but with the same overall storyline: A resurgent Sith Empire is on the verge of invasion and is led by an immortal Emperor who eats worlds and Revan and the Exhile must ally with a prodigious Sith Lord to stop him. I imagine Scourge is who you would have played as.

Just imagine. In the Kotor 2 cut content there is a lot of mystery revolving around Revan and his departure. Canderous spoke of what Revan said to him before he left. He remembered the war and the harsh reality weighed upon his spirit. Revan spoke of a war not against any sith, not even a dark Lord of the sith. Something was coming, something far beyond what anyone could even understand and that he was preparing an empire to face this threat whether they would win or die. The entire dialogue had this Lovecraftian like atmosphere, it dripped with the fear of the unknown. Kotor III would have been a cosmic horror. Think about that...

Vitiate does fit that description though...well, how he was portrayed in the Revan novel does at least. He was no more Sith than Nihilus was. I think the Revan novel is what we would have gotten, just with an alternate ending and a grander story that finishes a trilogy rather than set up SWTOR. The author for Revan was the head writer for KOTOR afterall.

Given the fact that BioWare is not the same people now as they were when KOTOR was released, I'd definitely say Obsidian should take the role with Avellone leading the project.

Obsidian was taking the the lead while Bioware was working on Mass Effect and Dragon Age. After EA bought Bioware they are nothing but a name now. Bioware's last great games Swtor(kinda a failure too), Mass Effect 3, and Dragon Age 3. Anything after that is barely worth playing, Most EA games are barely worth playing these days.

There is the revan novel that sort of fills in revan and the exile's fate after kotor 2, but it was really just produced as a setup for SWTOR and revan's story in that. It's hard to believe they were in financial trouble at that time considering how so many popular and famous games were produced. They must have messed up royally

I don't know the details but with gaming like film because the products take years to bring out and they're always a risk then even if they're still 3years out from any possible bankruptcy they still have to react to even yearly shortfalls with changes else they will eventually run off a cliff, or at least that is how some people must see it given this sort of response.

I still remember a poll from them in their February 2008 issue (first one I ever got from them) that KotOR 3 was the most in-demand sequel from their readers. I also remember that sad 85% chance of it happening that they gave it, yet here we are in 2021.

My theories: 1: EA thought it would be easier to make a Kotor 3-9, but combining into one MMO that would last for ten years as a much similar effort than making 6 separate games. 2: they were unsure what happen to Lucasarts when Bob Iger and George Lucas started discussing the sale of Star Wars to Disney 3: at least it wasn’t Activision.

I heard there was a remaster of KTOR 1 in the works. I personally hope it is successful, and that they remaster the sequel too. But add missing content and it would be really cool to link the two games together, kinda like how in Ratchet and Clank on the ps2, if you had a saved game of the previous game, you would get perks and benifits in the newer game.

Great video as always 100%. As a huge fan of KOTOR 2 (the first game is great too) the fact that obsidians KOTOR 3 never released still hurts me to this day. It sounded amazing and I wanted to have that true conclusion to revans and the exiles stories. I prefer the second game as well, and I wanted to see what Avellone and Obsidian's KOTOR 3 would've looked like.

@@aamirrazak3467 Tbh it is very typical BioWare writing which is charming but also the charakter feel often very one sided and Ignorant which is fine by me it gives the setting an special ancient feel, kinda same in Jade Empire. Ya Kotor 2 has such specific writing that it puts some star wars lore on its head, especialy how Kreia is and her Teachings and its hard to not say that im not a pretty big Kreia Fan in her Philosophy :D But also how interessting Atton was and the Handmaidan (which sadly is only with you when youre Male.... making the Famel playtrough less interessting... unless using mods :D). I also like to play SWTOR mostly for the Story (8 class storys afterall) and its very... typical BioWare kinda sad after kotor 2 but its still feels very KotOR :D the Expension with Revan and Exile is not that awesome tho feels like the writer of swtor wanted to deminish kotor 2 :/ but also imo destroys the ending of Kotor 1 abit Not just kotor 2.

The wish of what could have been… I remember finishing KOTOR and excited to see what hopefully would come next. Then I played KOTOR 2 and felt a little let down that it was almost a side story but still by the end with that big tease on KOTOR 3 I was stoked to finally see what had happened to Revan. Then nothing… Years passed and I moved on. Then I heard about Old Republic and for a second I was freaking out, holy shit is this KOTOR 3?!?! Then I read on to see it was a MMO. Oh no… that it wasn’t about Revan.. OH NO. So Old Republic came out and I passed on it. Then I heard there would be a Revan expansion that would finish his story. I still not being an online game fan still passed but did read the plot line and found out what happened to Revan and yeah… what a letdown. So much lost potential. As far as who should have done KOTOR 3, taking all the work each has done since then out of it as to not jade me. I would have wanted Obsidian to do it. KOTOR 2 was not the game they wanted to release but because of a very short development window they had to cut features, characters, missions, levels etc. I think it shows in the final product hence it not being received as well as the first game. I would have loved for them to come back with enough time to give us a KOTOR 3 without all the problems they faced on KOTOR 2. (Though realistically with LucasArts at that time they wouldn’t have gotten that).

I started replaying KOTOR 1 at the beginning of this year and it remains one of my favorite games ever; KOTOR 2 was such a worthy sequel to it as well. So it SUCKS that KOTOR 3 never happened despite both BioWare and Obsidian actively trying to fight for it ☹️ at this point the best I could want or hope for is if they did a KOTOR prequel during the Mandalorian Wars itself. Maybe we could play as a top Mandalorian or Republic commander and see that conflict (as well as the roles of Revan, Malak, the Exile) fully fleshed out.

kotor 1 = preparing revan for a big fight. kotor 2 = preparing the exile for a big fight. kotor 3 = the final one = Darth revan vs. Darth exile and you can choose to let win one of them

I'm like to see a faithful remake of KOTOR 1& 2 leading into a KOTOR 3. Maybe expand on 1 & 2 with more planets full of side quest, as well as an option to have an action based combat mode along side the turn based system as an alternative way to play.

Kotor3 should only be made if Obsidian & Chris Avellone are involved. (I know Chris is no longer with them, but he’d have to be brought back.) The way they fleshed out the depth of the characters, the force, and the duality of the sith/jedi is the most compelling content Star Wars has ever gotten. I don’t think anyone will else would be able to do Kotor 3 justice.

As in the sense it has the story we all know but can add more content to story based or even side story like extra planet or player/companions. But I don't own the legal rights to the story. So all I can do is throw ideas at the owners and hope it does something..

I really do believe the Kotor series is the greatest set of Star Wars games ever made. It seemed written in the stars the trilogy would be finished, but one does wonder why they figured they’d drop a game that was popular even back then and continued to this day to not only be one of the most popular Star Wars games, but one of the biggest cult following of any game I know. Perhaps one day it will be realised, it probably will never be the same quality, but at least we have 2 of the best examples of what Star Wars can be, not just a silly kids show. That, for me, is at least a win

I would love to see KOTOR 3 be made by both Obsidian and BioWare as a collaboration. Yes I enjoy the maps, loot, and overall possibilities of KOTOR 2 more than KOTOR 1, but the original provided a more compelling story with better characters. (IMO)

Why KOTOR 2 was not received as well at launch dumbfounded me. KOTOR 2 has basically the best story and characters to any game ever created, which is why I craved KOTOR 3, even to this day.

If, for some reason, in a couple of years Disney wanted to remake KOTOR I & II (kind of like the Mass Effect Legendary Edition) I really hope it's with Obsidian, or at least Chris Avellone. It's clear to me that BioWare really does not care for the Exile's story or Kreia's importance, and I really do believe they deserve a better ending than the one SWOTOR gave them :/

My friend amazing video as always and it's really unfortunate that KOTOR 3 was never made because it's such a fantastic and amazing Trilogy in Star Wars history. Now forgive my ignorance and limited knowledge so I understand this, KOTOR 1 was the story of Revan during the Mandalorian Wars and his redemption and KOTOR 2 was about Meetra Surik the Jedi Exile. I don't know if I want to blame SWTOR as a reason why they never made KOTOR 3 and agree with you it was money issues with LucasArts for not making the game. I remember hearing about these issues with LucasArts when they made Star Wars The Force Unleashed 2 and having to cut back on their staff of people working for them. If Bioware and Obsidian won't make KOTOR 3 then what about EA or Disney and Lucasfilms? I know that sounds crazy but again my limited knowledge. You have Unreal Cinema making a series of Knights of the Old Republic with Lucasfilms blessing and it's what I've been suggesting all along that Dave Filoni make an animated series of KOTOR after the Bad Batch ends but you've been against that idea. KOTOR 3 definitely should be made and I'll always continue to support an animated series of KOTOR and I'm glad that Unreal Cinema is doing it and of course I'm a huge fan of KOTOR Movie Saga and Darthycey's work

Both Kotor games are hands down some of the best star wars games. I think I prefer kotor 2 as it expands on the first one but I do have to wonder what it would have been like if it was not rushed. After I played kotor 1 and 2 I tried the mmo and did not really like it. I would have liked to get a kotor 3 granted only started playing them this year but thats beside the point, I guess with the remaster/remake/whatever of Kotor 1 that company could do the same for kotor 2 and then maybe with more people engaged in those games then kotor 3 could happen (I know this is pretty much never going to happen but you can dream). I do look forward for new star wars games not being made by EA (I use steam and I don't want another software to play EA games Origin)

The perfect Star Wars game would be probably mix of KOTOR, Jedi Academy ( like running on walls and stuff ), MMORPG version and force unleashed graphics/some mechanics. So many fans, but the material is somewhat exhausted and game's are/were average, KOTOR was great back in the days though but had obvious flaws.

If it were up to me, I would've had a joint effort between Bioware and Obsidian to exchange ideas and work on the story and gameplay to top the previous two games, mainly to make the potentially third entry more consistent and to answer most of the questions. From what we do have, I would've had Bioware and Obsidian expand on them so the game feels bigger, more cinematic, and more personal than before. "Probably" like SWTOR but not as an MMO. Then again, the MMO did at least try despite everything. What I would do for a new KOTOR "reboot" (I use that very loosely FYI), I have ideas of my own and would be glad to share them.

It is really sad, that money was the reason for these cuts. There is no problem for me that they earn money i dont have a problem with them earning a lot of money but i have a problem with money making decisions for them. It would have been great to get the 3rd part of KotoR.

Why wouldn't you have mentioned the Revan book ovel that came out? that continues the story of knights the Old Republic. I would say a wraps up the events of Kotor 1 and Kotor 2 pretty well and even continues the story until its conclusion

Chris Avellone not only deserves to be able to finish the KOTOR trilogy, he also deserves a complete SW movie trilogy. One he could write completely unsupervised and without edit or even comment from higher ups at Lucasfilm. Just give him a pen and a blank check. I would trust him with any SW property/title. KOTOR 2, with the restored content mod, is the best SW story in existence IMO and I would put Mr. Avellone on a list to assemble a dream team of SW writers

KOTOR III by Obsidian is the way to go KOTOR did set some scenarios for it, like Canderous saying the Sith goaded the Mandalorian into battling the Republic And KOTOR II made me question Revan's actions as a Sith, that everything he did was in the name of the greater good So, KOTOR III by Obsidian sounds like another Game of the Year incoming

Would love to see obsidian do KOTOR3. They did kotor2 and new vegas. Arguably my favourite ever games for their respective times. They know how to tell a story for sure I still think there's a place and market for kotor 3. With the remaster of KOTOR1 and we haven't had a true starwars RPG for sooooo long. I think it's time. EA won't let us have it though.
