The word emet is a common word used to describe God in the Bible. It can be translated as “faithfulness” or “truth.” So when the authors say that God is “full of emet,” they are saying that he is trustworthy and faithful-we can trust him. But trusting isn’t always an easy thing. In this video, we look at why we can trust that God is full of emet.

Erm, Revelations 13:8? Romans 8:30, maybe also pertinent. Medieval Spanish Jews... maybe. Also, were African slaves... in Christendom... Sometimes, not wholly attended, to? Many are not sure on this. Plus, many are not sure, Catholics, 'are Christians' too. So there appears, at least some ambiguity, on this.@@childofgod5818

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. - Hebrews 11:1‭-‬3 (NKJV) So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters. For he said to God, “I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters. I will praise you among your assembled people.” He also said, “I will put my trust in him,” that is, “I and the children God has given me.” Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people. Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested. - Hebrews 2:11‭-‬13‭, ‬17‭-‬18 (NLT) For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. Remember what it says: “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled.” And who was it who rebelled against God, even though they heard his voice? Wasn’t it the people Moses led out of Egypt? And who made God angry for forty years? Wasn’t it the people who sinned, whose corpses lay in the wilderness? And to whom was God speaking when he took an oath that they would never enter his rest? Wasn’t it the people who disobeyed him? So we see that because of their unbelief they were not able to enter his rest. - Hebrews 3:14‭-‬19 (NLT)

@@lamasabachthani2132 Actually, Romans 10:17 says "hearing the word of God." The Bible is the word of God. Even Jesus quoted scriptures from the old testament when He was tempted by the devil (Luke 4:3-12). Read John 5:31-33. Jesus said John's testimonies about Him are true. We know that in John 1:29-34, John acknowledged that Jesus was the Son of God. John also said that the word of God was made flesh (John 1:1 & 14), which shows that John believed that Jesus is God. Also read Luke 22:67-70. The reason why Jesus didn't directly tell them He was God was because they wouldn't believe Him anyway. But notice how He didn't deny it when they asked if He was the Son of God. That being said, I hope you pray and seek God for answers because no one knows God more than God Himself.

@bibleproject
@bibleproject 3 жыл бұрын
The word emet is a common word used to describe God in the Bible. It can be translated as “faithfulness” or “truth.” It involves honesty and truth-telling, (Proverbs 12:19), reliability, and dependability (Psalm 31:6). Because emet is the last of the five words used to describe God in Exodus 34:6, it has the effect of declaring that God’s character of compassion, graciousness, patience, and loyal love will be constant, faithful, or forever. So when the authors say that God is “full of emet,” they are saying that God is trustworthy and reliable, true to his character and his promises. God desires for his people to reciprocate his trustworthiness by placing their trust in him, both in belief and in action. The Hebrew word for trust is from the same Hebrew root of emet, he’emin. It can be translated as “to believe” or “to have faith,” but most basically, it means “to consider someone trustworthy” or “to trust.” It’s what God calls humans to do in response to his character of emet. The story of the Bible shows us many positive and negative examples of what it looks like to trust, or not trust, God. Abraham’s belief in God’s ability to be faithful to his promise to him is held up as an example of trust (Genesis 12:1-3; 15:5-6). Israel’s lack of belief in God when they spy out the promised land is held up as an example of failed trust (Numbers 14:11). David walks in emet before God and trusts in God’s promise of a future faithful king who will reign forever (2 Samuel 7:15-16; 1 Kings 3:6). And God ultimately fulfills his promises to Abraham, Israel, and David in the person of Jesus (Matthew 1:1). He is the faithful king whose kingdom will endure forever. Jesus embodies God’s trustworthiness (Romans 15:8-9; John 1:14) and calls us, along with all the world, to place our trust in him (John 3:16). Want to dig deeper? If a proposition is proposed it needs sufficient 'demonstratable' evidence that gives reason for why it is likely to be true. What is the demonstratable evidence that any god exists? What's the demonstratable evidence fairies exist? The answer to both questions is there is none, so atheists tend to live their lives as if a god doesn't exist. Faith- based decision making leads to 10,000 answers/religions all having mutually exclusive reasonings for the origin of everything meaning only one or none of them could possibly be true. Since the only evidence provided for the existence of a god is faith-based, why would a person choose to believe in a god that is unlikely to exist? for if you use faith to deem one religion as true then why wouldn't you deem all others?

How is he faithful? He doesn’t forgive everything. He doesn’t forgive blasphemy. Even Jesus mentions that in Mark 3:28. He claims we have free will but we don’t. The price of having free will, freedom, and doing what you want is burning to death. That’s not faithful. He abandons his creations.

@@itsbec9941 how is He not faithful? just because He doesn’t forgive *one* sin doesn’t mean anything, we don’t deserve forgiveness of anything and we do have free will, you choose to say God isn’t faithful, i choose to say He is, but ofc it’s God’s doing in me, not my own the reason you go to hell is because you’re evil, we’re *all* evil people (Romans 3:23), He does *NOT* abandon His creations, in fact He actually came down from His home in heaven, it had praise for Him, glory for Him, and everything for Him to be delivered to die on the cross for me and *you*. How is that abandoning His creation? Does He not love us with a never ending love? Does He not love you with a never ending love? Did He not die for you? Did He not create you? Did He not send His *ONLY* Son down to die for you a death that He didn’t deserve? Jesus took the nails for us, Jesus forgives our sins through His *own* blood. Why would He forgive blasphemy? If someone says that His power is from satan why would He forgive it? Who are we to tell Him to forgive our sins? Who are we to question Jesus? Aren’t both of us evil? i hope you read this whole thing and i really hope you think about it, have a good day 🙂.

@@JamesRichardWiley With all due respect, Sir. I believe that God may have different names across the borders and other religions. But the fact that the idea of "God" in all religions are present show that God is indeed universal. As a Christian, I know my God to be the Lord and Jesus Christ.

Great video!! Can you guys talk about what it means that God is jealous?
@MuantanamoMobile
@MuantanamoMobile 3 жыл бұрын
It is important to understand how the word “jealous” is used. Its use in Exodus 20:5 to describe God is different from how it is used to describe the sin of jealousy (Galatians 5:20). When we use the word “jealous,” we sometimes use it in the sense of being envious of someone who has something we do not have. A person might be jealous or envious of another person because he or she has a nice car or home (possessions). Or a person might be jealous or envious of another person because of some ability or skill that other person has (such as athletic ability). Another example would be that one person might be jealous or envious of another because of his or her beauty. In Exodus 20:5, it is not that God is jealous or envious because someone has something He wants or needs. Exodus 20:4-5 says, “You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God...” Notice that God is jealous when someone gives to another something that rightly belongs to Him. In these verses, God is speaking of people making idols and bowing down and worshiping those idols instead of giving God the worship that belongs to Him alone. God is possessive of the worship and service that belong to Him. It is a sin (as God points out in this commandment) to worship or serve anything other than God. It is a sin when we desire, or we are envious, or we are jealous of someone because he has something that we do not have. It is a different use of the word “jealous” when God says He is jealous. What He is jealous of belongs to Him; worship and service belong to Him alone, and are to be given to Him alone. Perhaps a practical example will help us understand the difference. If a husband sees another man flirting with his wife, he is right to be jealous, for only he has the right to flirt with his wife. This type of jealousy is not sinful. Rather, it is entirely appropriate. Being jealous for something that God declares to belong to you is good and appropriate. Jealousy is a sin when it is a desire for something that does not belong to you. Worship, praise, honor, and adoration belong to God alone, for only He is truly worthy of it. Therefore, God is rightly jealous when worship, praise, honor, or adoration is given to idols. This is precisely the jealousy the apostle Paul described in 2 Corinthians 11:2, “I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy...”

In german translations the word "eifersüchtig" is used.. This is the translated description of wikipedia: Jealousy describes a painful emotion that can arise within a partnership, family or friendship relationship; namely when one feels an affection, recognition, attention, love or show of respect from the partner, from the caregiver or another valued person.. SO ITS SOMETHING THAT BINDS US TOGETHER I GUESS..

That is an important trait of God that unfortunately turns so many people away from Christianity because jealousy is often viewed in our culture as a negative thing. I believe it is a critical ingredient in God's love. You are right, they really need to make a video on that.
