The Reasons Why You Can't Play Fast Passages Cleanly FluteTips 106

To play fast and clean there are usually three different areas to fix. We've all been there. We've all had this problem.
Now, the first thing I can tell you to getting fast passages is to know your scales and arpeggios. And I can't say that strongly enough -
know your minor scales
know your major scales, and
know your arpeggios like the back of your hand!
Once you have those skills, here are the 3 culprits that will flub you up in fast passages:
1. Your fingers are rushing - faster than your tongue or eyes
2. You have a glitch - your fingers are not all going up or down together
3. Your fingers want to skip a note!
Here’s some ideas for fixing these three problems.
You will love how you sound when you play fast passages and they are clean. You can hear every single note. It takes you up a notch from the amateur level to the professional. And that's a lovely thing.

Really great instructional video. The subtitles are great for us trying to take notes while you are going on point after point. Would dry, cracked lips affect the way I sound, I always have to lick my lips

Absolutely! I have some type of chap stick on at all times except when I'm playing. I don't get chapped lips because of that.
