The feels of the "please, I just want my hair done, I don't want to actually be a human today" - too real. And good job continuing to be professional and nice; so many people have got my business (and eventually met the me without all the masks and social anxiety) by continuing to be nice when I was having a Not Human day.

@@annacarter6559 nice job assuming all disabled and/or neurodivergent people aren't capable of living independently. Also, given that there are fees for cancellations without enough notice, and someone might not know they're having a bad day until they wake up, it's pretty unrealistic and ableist to demand people just stay home. And maybe they can't afford to cancel, so they suffer through an appointment on a hard day, and are grateful when someone does them the kindness of letting them just sit, and be, and doesn't expect them to be chatty and fake it.
@bamflr
@bamflr Жыл бұрын
@@annacarter6559 This is a good idea on really bad days! In the case of pre-booked appointments (especially when cancellation fees are involved), I imagine this wouldn't always be a reasonable option for some, though. Things like the extra big tip at the end definitely seem like the way to go.
@bamflr
@bamflr Жыл бұрын
@@annacarter6559 you and I must have really different experiences working retail! That's fine, of course! I'd personally hate this - it so often leads to the karen type customers who remove the tip at the end instead, as a verbal promise on their end isn't binding.

I kinda relate to Rebecca because I get being too drained or scattered or depressed to really emote "normally"; apparently my masking wears thin in those times and my constant questioning of whether my feelings are correct for the situation decreases because my give a damn is nowhere to be found. I've never been able to afford tipping that much, but I've definitely tipped a few servers almost the whole ticket because they were so nice despite my grouchy or disconnected responses. Great service deserves recognition and I always try to do so to the extent I can. 🧡

It would be interesting if the customers reaction to a stylist would be featured on utube. After moving to a town in Oregon recently, I discovered a hairstylist that was incredibly rude and self absorbed. She hurt my feelings and ruined my day for honestly no reason. I am not like these customers on these clips. I am in my late sixties, always punctual, tip usually 25% and make no unusual demands. I don't care what happened to her prior to my appointment. All I wanted was good service and perhaps a little conversation. All in all , I just wanted a positive appointment experience. She was rude, kept talking to anyone but me at our very first appointment. I never went back. I paid her in cash and included a generous tip. Never never bothered to say goodbye as I walked out the door.

It's not always about you it's just that sometimes people come off as rude because they're trying so hard not to scream "please just shut the * up!" I try not to do this to a stylist or in general a human but she realized she was being rude so at least there's that.

Your videos have gone from "all Karen all the time" to "this customer had a bit of an attitude". 😆I can't tell if you're running out of Karen stories or you just aren't used to being tipped really well. I tend to do my own hair, dog grooming, cooking, etc., but when I find a hair stylist, esthetician, dog groomer, waitress, or other service professional I like, I tip 100%. I want them to be happy to see me on their books or in their section, even if I ask stupid questions, make a mess of my table, or my dog is difficult for grooming. This also helps them remember me better, so they tend to do things like add extra olives to my salad because they remember I like olives, or stock up on a specific kind of fabric for bandanas for my dog because I said I liked the pattern.

I'm reading a lot of excuses for this behavior. If you know you are unable to mask due to your issues why not just be honest and humble with the stylist so they can empathize with you? I have definitely said that I am feeling really low and need to just be quiet if they don't mind. If you're aware of your feelings (tired, worn down, can't do the "mask") then it seems like a choice to make others try to guess what you need and walk on eggshells until they figure out what you need. If it's a choice you don't have to be peppy just honest and kind.
