Rebecca trying to initiate smalltalk bc she knows it's what _you_ like is the sweetest thing I expect to hear, today.

I used to work with a "Rebecca." I thought she was such a beach when we first met. Then she pulled me aside and was like, "I actually like working with you and your energy, I just hate everything. If I ever lovingly insult you too much, just let me know." After that, I understood that was her way of showing she cared for someone, and we ended up getting close. Not friends, cause she hated people too much to have friends, but she didn't mind my company at work. It's like a Raven and Starfire type friendship. miss her.

As a neurodivergent person, I’m sorry if we come off rude. We are very grateful for those that accommodate and don’t take it personally ❤
@NottyAries Жыл бұрын
I'm neurodivergent too and I agree with your statement. We're not wrong, we're just different and that's not a bad thing. But I can get frustrated and be rude sometimes no matter how hard I try.
@PeanutButtNut01 Жыл бұрын
Wait... Waaaaaaaait.... Is this why I don't really enjoy talking to people?? But like I don't mind people at all but God I can come off as SO rude. Like just yesterday one of my coworkers said "she doesn't talk much" and me and another coworker were like "who???" And she pointed at me and said "her" and then laughed like it didn't bug her. 😂😭😭 I always thought I was just super weird and didn't know how to talk to people. I like the bubbly personalities at work but I just can't match their energy.
@jaktoztymj9225 Жыл бұрын
@@PeanutButtNut01 Well, enjoying talking to people has nothing to do with being neurotypical or not. Neurodivergent people primarily struggle with understanding social interactions and have low emotional intelligence, thus they often come off as rude. Important to add, you can have some neurodivergent traits, but still don't classify for a neurodivergent
@OGimouse1 Жыл бұрын
And I definitely am guilty of being a Rebecca. I don't understand why you do and don't listen to me. And I understand less when we talk about that understanding. I talk with my massage therapist through the entire appointment because she did it the first time. I hate it but if she stops it's going to mess up the routine.
@jules666. Жыл бұрын
@@PeanutButtNut01 It definitely could be. It’s called being “tone blind” and a lot of autistic folks experience it. I would recommend speaking to a doctor about it.

I had a high-school friend who was somewhat of a Rebecca, but she had a condition that has a bit more to it than being on the spectrum. She hardly talked to anyone, including teachers, other school faculty and at times even her family. When I saw her for the first time she was off on her own except for the vocational worker/job coach she worked with. Every one else started seeing positive changes after the first 3 months or so. I met her at an after school group that met once a month.
@alixander3129 Жыл бұрын
And I agree with you completely @N Henderson

It’s definitely possible. My husband has Aspergers so he can be super blunt and straight forward. I have ADHD so I tend to talk a lot, and I struggle not to interrupt people when I’m super interested in whatever they’re talking about. He’s told me many times that my interrupting makes him feel like I don’t care about what he has to say (which could not be further from the truth). So I worked really REALLY hard at getting to the point that I don’t interrupt, because I want him to know that I care about what he has to say. The first time I managed not to interrupt him at all he was like, “I feel like I’m boring you…” I laughed and was like, “No babe! You’re not boring me. I’m listening.” He was like, “Oh… it feels weird. Just go back to being your normal self.” Lololol!

Yep..... As others have said.. She's on the spectrum and knows it. It's great that she's trying to adapt to Norma's that she doesn't 'get'. My nephew is very similar. ... He's 19. Very smart. Doesn't like chatter or small talk, but also pics up that the room is weird when it completely quiet. We are so hoping that he gets to a point where he realizes he needs to try harder to understand that others are are just being polite as Rebecca has finally come to realize.
