Well no. What nobody seems to recall is that the marines had just fought Whitebeard and the cost had been tremendous. Now another Yonko shows up and is basically like "You guys ready for round 2?". Also remember the admirals are injured, they have lost thousands of men and many of the warlords and vice-admirals are out of action. Many of those marines who were elated that the war was over were suddenly confronted with Shanks who pretty much asked them to start over from the beginning.

I think Shanks was a Yonko when he first met Luffy. Keep in mind the 4 blue seas have very little knowledge of the Grand-Line, only rumors make it through, so they probably don't know what the emperors look like, so they had no idea Shanks was an emperor when the bandits were messing with Shanks and his crew. Especially since Whitebeard mentions how Shanks already did all his crazy things (like fighting Hawkeye) before going back to the East Blue, Only to come back missing an arm. So it would make sense that he was at least a yonko level by the time he met Luffy.

3 things: 1. Before losing his arm, Shanks was rivals with Mihawk. They were supposed to have an epic final duel to determine which of them was truly strongest, but it never happened due to Shanks' lost arm. 2. This is just a theory, but I believe Lucky Roo is able to use Life Return, one of the 6 powers that CP9 wields. That would allow him to change his body structure to make him faster or stronger. I also wouldn't be surprised if he and other members of the crew were capable of using any of the other 6 powers as well. 3.Oda really likes monkeys. There's the Monkey family, those monkey guys that were introduced at Jaya, the one guy with the Whitebeard pirates had a monkey that was able to use a gun, and the one with these guys. Maybe the monkey has some sort of devil fruit, which would be pretty cool, or maybe it has some other kind of ability.

Long time listener first time commenter, I have a theory for you. SO Ben Beckman a.k.a. Tall dark and handsome is the one who has the time travel fruit. This is something me and my roommate have discussed at length and have quite a few references to support. Example 1) Shanks making it into the middle of the sea to save Luffy on time. This also supports the idea that shanks is not the one who himself has the devil fruit. Example 2) Ben pointed a gun at Kizaru. The man who is literal light the fastest character in one piece we can assume. And he stopped because if this would make sense Ben can freeze time or manipulate time so that he could kill Kizaru before he had a chance to run away. Example 3) MARINEFORD, The red haired pirates as you said were clashing with Kaido the day before Marineford happend. HOW could he have done this! Also I would like to think that at Marineford they would have noticed Shanks a Yonkos crew pulling up to the block like "hey im ganna fight you". BUT THEY DIDNT. Not until Shanks jumped infront of Coby. NO ONE NOTICED THEM. AT ALL. How could this happen? Example 4)Luffy has a devil fruit, and Zoro does not. Shanks most likely doesnt have a devil fruit and Ben does. I think that would be an interesting dynamic and suggestion towards their possible powers and abilities related to the straw hat crew. Also Zoro doesnt have a devil fruit because hes just that strong. It would make sense for Shanks who is a yonko to be Just that strong. Example 5) Ben is the only one who has seemingly aged greatly since the time skip. He went from tall dark and handsome to tall silver fox. Why would he change so dramatically and could this have to do with him having a time time fruit??? *HEAVY SPOILERS:* Today in the most recent chapter 957 it's revealed that shanks has a bounty of 4 BILLION beri. Contrary to popular belief Shank's bounty is lower than both Kaido's (4.6B) and Big Mom's (4.3B) bounties. It is stated that Shanks has the most balanced crew and most of his crew members also have high bounties. Ben Beckman, Yasopp (Usopp's Dad) and Lucky Roo might all have bounties over 2 or 3 Billion. Ben Beckman might also be the Yonko commander with the highest bounty, the smartest person from East blue and the strongest Yonko commander. Now we know just a little more about Shanks and the red hair pirates. Edit: Whitebeard and Gol D. Rodger had bounties of 5B beri and 5.5B beri respectively and were the only pirates in history to have bounties over 5B beri.

I think that no one on Shank's crew has a devil fruit. This is evidenced by their comments about Luffy not being able to swim (granted this is in chapter 1 and might of been to encourage Luffy). But no one had a confirmed fruit so it's still possible. They might all have powerful haki abilities which is why they are considered so powerful.

I know I'm late and I'm sure someone already said it, but If Luffy really doesn't like killing his opponents and prefers more "non-lethal" methods of fighting; it kinda makes sense that usopp would prefer similar "non-lethal" methods. The slingshot also kinda plays into usopps resourcefulness. Shanks has no problems just capping people, so therefore his crews down to do the same

So when did Shanks become a Yonkou?? I doubt he was a yonkou when he fought the bandits, because the bandits didnt know who he was, like if he was a fucking yonkou i think those bandits would probably know. After the fight with the bandits he lost his arm, and to think that he got his yonkou title with one arm is kinda impossible. Its either Oda messed up and made a plot hole of bandits not knowing who Shanks was(which is impossible if he was one of the younkou at that time), or he got his yonkou title with one arm which shows how fucking strong he is.

They were mountain bandits. The fact they would know the different pirates and especially in that ocean were no one knew about devil fruits or only heard rumors, seems unreasonable. Also if maybe the bandits did know about the yankou. Shanks could be one of the strongest haki users or have an extremely strong devil fruit that he got after the bandit incident. Not a plot hole just needs some thought

Didn’t white beard ask who managed to make him lose his arm? I’m pretty sure white beard said that impressed because he knew how strong he was at the time and was surprised suggesting he was a yonko or at least a highly known pirate. Also shanks is said to have many duels with mihawk suggesting they’ve known each other for a while again yonko or highly regarded pirate

breaker dawn I don't think the latter statement is valid, when the marines and whitebeard found that Shanks lost his arm they lost their shits, curious of how that could happened to him and who done it. This implies Shanks already got his name and fame before losing his arm.

Shanks was a Yonkou when he lost his arm plus in the One Piece world Pirates don't really recognise other pirates until they do something like luffy i know its a bit of a stretch (no pun intended)but i always remember when an Enemy would say "wait a minute i remember i know who you guys are"the point im trying to make is that Shanks was just acting like a normal Civilian at the time
