I am Rick Owens, I need to be in total solutide in a house alone for long periods to be able to really dive deep into these wells. People think it is isolating and I need social interaction but they will never understand how fulfilling it is for me, it is like being in heaven with the most high. Life as an artist is one few understand.

Tbh I 100% feel that mentality. Learned it to be a fact during the pandemik. I really could not turn the feeling of being inspired off. It was nonstop. Soon as the world "opened"'again and I had to return to dealing with ppl, the faucet was turned right off. I guess using my social battery sucks the juice out of my creative battery. Kinds wish I didn't find this out because it's a bit of a bummer.

Sometimes it’s also exhausting being around artists who do understand .. Rick said something about other people’s ambitions. It’s really tough when you’re around creatives who aren’t necessarily unsupportive but only want to talk about their own art.

@@toweringmother That hit me hard, i find myself not caring about my friends music, but then expect him to give me credit for my music. Don't get me wrong, I try to help him be better, and sometimes sit down and help him write. But in all honesty, and something I cant say to him, but his music is just mediocre and im trying to make him work harder at it, and just the whole process in general. But he's unfortunately where i was years ago, when i thought I was legendary for finishing songs in an hour. More recent times has shown me how lazy i was. I do feel bad sometimes, I do have a lot of time for him though, he relies on me quite a bit for his mental health, but his music is just not currently that appealing.

You cut out one of the most important things Rick said which is absolutely true. When he said “don’t expect life to be fair” he said that because he was going on about some of the most talented, hard working people still don’t make it because it’s just a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Almost throws your work ethic theory out the window. Personally I’d say it’s a combination of both strong work ethic and persistence as exhibited by JPEG’s interview. However, some of the laziest people with questionable work ethic can still make a living. Momentum and persistence is key.

20 is barely out the gate. Most artists don’t contribute much of note until their 30s. That 10 years, when you’re becoming who you will be for the rest of your life, so too is your art.
@sonofsoosАй бұрын
I honestly think this only applies if you’re born after 2000 due to the explosion of the internet and the age of information coming into full effect, you have 16 year olds nowadays creating their own art from home that’s close to studio quality and it’s fascinating to think what type of music we’ll be making when we’re old heads past 30
