thank you so much for this! As a visual artist I can relate to the feelings of isolation and strained relationships due to the time I need to dedicate to my work. It is a real need, which I'm learning to accept, instead of looking at it as being selfish. Time & freedom are so important for the creative practice. Finding your own way of doing things is also a complex process, sometimes the time you need to create something can be completely "inconvenient" and against the rushed world we live in. I'm learning that it is important to let myself be guided by the natural timing of my creative practice.

As a training actor, and new writer, I’m currently in the long process of finding a daily routine where my best work comes through. I am beginning to understand, however, that I am a lot more distracted than I thought I was. Even just 10 minutes of shallow, useless, happy brain chemical spiking scrolling on my phone can kill my passion for the following hour. I need to feel genuinely good, at a soul level. I’m beginning to include activities on the daily that help with this, but with that, I’m also worried that it takes away from my time spent working on my creative endeavours. Your journaling prompt about that has fully opened my eyes to that thought that was kinda floating in my head. People like to talk about finding balance in life, but I’ve realised now that ‘balance’ as a creative is wayyyy different. Thank you for this great video

As an unknown artist who lives my life every day out of passion for music, this video was extremely inspiring, motivating, and reassuring. Many of these clips I’ve seen before, but in the context of this video, the commentary, the insight, everything about this 30 minute piece is a work of art in it of itself. Always appreciative of this channel and these videos, but for the current time in my life this video spoke volumes to me. Especially the Frank Ocean part, being in an artistic bubble, especially when you center your life around your passion, is so important & crucial to the process. That’s how the best work gets done and how timeless art is made. At least for my artistry, that’s the aspect I relate the most to. Also, I wasn’t familiar with Junot Diaz before this but everything he said was golden. I need to go do some research on his work! But seeing these great artists I look up to in so many ways have the same thoughts and mindsets as myself, an unknown artist, is very reassuring. Just have to stay on the path day by day.

Where I really struggle is an all or nothing approach to my creative work. It completely consumes me when I get started, to the point where daily life outside of what I'm creating is an intrusion almost. Which means I take long periods away to deal with like...being a person. Which means my output is inconsistent. I'm trying to figure out how to balance this without losing the thrill that I love most. Starting in on a canvas or a blank sheet and waking up like, three days later with something gorgeous. No answers, all questions. So far.

Great video and inspiration, thanx ! I was struggling to finish a song with its music video I started 10 years ago, made a few burn out of it due to a lot of commitment into reaching the high level of standard I’ve set. I gave up twice and prioritized my regular job and sometimes fell into drug/escaping addiction. Then I remembered the initial spark of the song, the core intention behind, that was expressing gratitude to the people and country that welcomed my political refugee parent and allowed me to have a proper situation nowadays. I owed them that recognition into celebrating places and people from France in the music video. As I gave up , felt low or insecure, I just remember all the trust, time and energy these the people I’ve filmed that gave me, and it brings me back the energy and will to finish the project, not for me, but for them.

Thank you for your content. I recently found you through my recommended at a time in my life where I have stepped onto the other side of the unknown. I'm still gaining footing and my eyes are still adjusting to my more authentic expression. I think one of the main takeaways from this video is to begin! Without comparison. Without permission from anyone else but myself. I've been working towards my goals in unknown and known ways; I've positioned my days to where I can invest in my dreams - no longer working for the system that undervalues me and views me as replaceable. I'm taking risks and those who have known me for a while are questioning my decisions but I know that my soul knows where to go (an affirmation I've began saying for a couple of years now). I'm getting into a routine now and realizing that self-discipline is going to get me where I want to be. The days where I don't want to, where I'd rather not, have proven to be the days that make it count. Making sacrifices like quitting smoking to be more clear and focused, no longer suppressing my creativity and excitement for my passions. No longer giving a fuck who perceives me because I know my heart.... I went on a tangent but it's all relevant. I think the biggest proud moment is choosing myself and I will continue to do so no matter the circumstances. To anyone struggling and on the fence.. choose you! Your future self is waiting for you :)

I've taken a much more intuitive approach to my music and creative output in the last 6 months. For about two years I became so deeply involved and attached to my fantasy world - especially my ego, which overran my personal priorities, life and relationships. This period created some of my most expressive work ( which was actually my debut release and album ), I honestly didnt give a fuck about anyones opinion and also what I was saying - truly fearless. But fast forward to now, im trying to find that balance again between all my worlds and becoming fearless again ( removing ego this time ). I've completely shifted my creative outlook and world, many hours of inner-work has been done and many more will be done. Everyday, every second I still think about how my next project will sound, feel and look - also the new perspectives and identity ive grown into and how that will look... this will never leave. I get extremely impatient sometimes, especially during this 'down-time' but I will choose to trust this process and I know im yet to create my most personal, expressive AND complete work. Gotta always broaden our lens and remember the journey 🖤 give yourself grace and time to grow.

From my experience of this video, it seems to be raising up the moments we spend creatively to a higher importance than the others we spend living traditionally. I find myself disagreeing with that idea. Being present and experiencing life is just as important to the creative work as actually doing the work. It’s in those moments that we form our own opinions, learn about ourselves, and figure out what we want to say. Personally, I will be creating work until I cant anymore, and there I’ve formed a real patience in my approach because of that.
@creativemindsyoutube Жыл бұрын
OK this got me thinking. I think I agree with what you've said too. One of the things I want to balance a bit more about my videos is making sure I'm not superficially lifting the creative process as 'special' or something exclusive. That idea around being present in life is so important, and something that, as you say, is super necessary to actually feed the work anyway. Thanks for adding your piece here, and taking the time.

I used to drink, partying a lot, talking about projects I was unable to do because I was just a character I was playing the "artist" but was not myself an artist. For now I do my way I am not ashamed to take a huge day off, I like to see my friends but I have stop drinking alcohol, I practice yoga, meditation, eat healty and...work not a lot but even if it´s 4 hours it will be 4 full hours. Being an artist requires discipline but we must also take care of ourselves but I don´t thinkl it is selfishness it is simply finding a way to have the right balance between our everyday life and our creative life.

I think having grace for yourself has played the biggest role for my artistic journey. I don’t believe in over straining yourself to the point where you’re fully isolating yourself because I think that can have negative effects on mental health. Maybe that’s why so many artists who are seen as “great” struggle with mental health issues. I think not giving up and following through is important. Knowing the boundaries of your skills so you can grow them without over doing it is also vital. I do agree that journaling is pivotal because in my own journey it has offered me time to reflect on what people, places, actives actually serve me. I’ve even had to take a break from my own creative endeavors so I could have a healthier ego around it. Love yourself and if you’ve been blessed to want to pursue something creative do it please! If you need to cut things out to add more time, do so in a healthy way instead of breaking up with your loving girlfriend out of the blue for example. Get to know yourself and just work. Oh and also get sleep - your creativity long term will suffer if you don’t. Anyway, I hope you guys can get something out of this ramble about my own experience.

Its good to move towards the goals that you want and to be very “selfish/stubborn” but more rather self-respectful of your principles and practice. Don’t allow the “normal” of others and expectations to affect what and how you do things to a detrimental degree. At the same time, part of self respect is your mind, body, and overall health. Your communication, connection, and sharing with people and the world I think is also important. Just grinding mindlessly without end in your room could be good for growth skill wise but at least for me that made me uber depressed when I didn’t at least see someone at the end of the week. A good balance of self diligence and self respect with plotted out time to rest and hangout and enjoy the world is what’s healthy to me.

God I need to listen to some frank after this lol Swim gooood Always always appreciate your videos. Lately I realize there are a near infinite amount of skillful or unskillful actions I can take every second of the day, that could deter me, or lead me toward my creative goals and making my best work. Choosing to watch your channel before bed over something unrelated to sparking my creative drive is valuable, a skillful decision you’ve blessed me the ability to make. Imagine how many people you motivate and inspire with these compilations and insight.. THANK YOU Thank you so much for your work.

Such a good video that at the end I was like “is it over already? I want more” good job. Really gives me permission to be myself and be grounded in who I want to become no matter what other people think.

As an underground musician at this point...it's good I can find videos like this. Because, I went a hiatus for a few years to try and go soul searching by getting other skills too well get a real job. However, I forget what my voice can mean for other people, especially being on the spectrum, (or autistic.) So funnily enough I saw this video in my recs for months, and, thought "screw it might be just more motivation jank, but well I might aswell hear out what this person say's. Cause one life and such." All I'll say was this is finally what I needed to go back, and be that unique musician again.

I don’t have any desire to “make it” as an artist and I don’t even necessarily know what that looks like. I think it’s ok to make art for the sake of doing it. I feel like I’m blessed with a sort of musical 6th sense and I enjoy making music. I’m not really good at too much else. I love expressing myself through the art form. But I couldn’t care less about streams and “making it”. I think it’s about making art that means something to you and that’s it. Maybe a handful of people will listen to my music and out of that handful a couple people will connect to it.

Thank you for feeding the hungry artists. Focus and obsession is necessary for creation at the highest level. I appreciate this so much! Also, I have a question. What drives you to make these videos? It feels like these were made for me 😮

At least 10 years+ now days to get in the crowd and be recognized by fans or interested potential fans. I've seen local artists do that exactly that long before they choose to sign a deal or not.

"Luck is the point where preparation and opportunity intersect" Never truer words have been said ... I've seen people who have had the most amazing opportunities presented to them but they weren't prepared to receive them. And conversely I've seen others who worked their butts off and seized on the smallest of opportunities and manifested the greatest of heights. At the end of the day, people who go hard for their dreams have a far better shot at realizing them 💯

I make music and when I first started it was during covid. I enjoyed and was able to literally just lock in and create all day, I really wasn’t hanging w friends often and didn’t enjoy being pulled to do anything else other than music. Bc I was so locked in I learned very quickly and made some beautiful stuff. When real life resumed I had a hard time balancing music, school, and my new gf so I didn’t rly have time to give much to music like how I wanted to. I tried to get to music when I could but that didn’t really work for me. Now that I’m out of school and have no gf I realized I really can only do my best work and prefer to work when I’m fully consumed by music. When finishing a project and putting ideas together is the only thing on my mind. I can’t really have my mind or time be divided. I’d definitely say having a gf doesn’t work for me and I have to sacrifice spending time w friends.

Great vid and I've been journaling (this is a word idc) since 2016 because of one of my acting teachers made it assignment in one of the advanced acting classes to understand character nuance. Each book since then has had so many new characters, issues, problems, and challenges which make you appreciate all the bs you experience in life because you have something fruitful to talk about and share with people. When you're at the end of your journey you'll likely appreciate all the hardships you faced rather than those unfulfilling achievements you had because you were able to gain something from them.
@creativemindsyoutube Жыл бұрын
I hear that. Journalling to understand characters more deeply or inhabit characters sounds super interesting as a practice. My background is in writing fiction, so I like the idea of using the reflective practices around character building. Glad this one connected for you, and thanks for taking the time to share that piece of your experience.

How do I organise my work around your life? I invest (time, energy, money) into my hobbies and intrests outside of my creative work. I give myself the space to reflect and evolve in those areas and it comes out in my work. How I make tough decisions? I reason with myself and feel my feelings (both positive and negative) to help me find balance and clarity around what helps and what doesnt't. It's not always easy and something I'm still trying to navigate but I see its benefits long term
