If it’s safe to have the one piece models at this time, they should make it so when you get a WEAPON, it’s the copyright-safe model but if you craft/upgrade it, you can get the one piece model which is also a bit more powerful. Also bosses being copy-right safe is a good idea. Just the weapons should be like that.

I think the idea that you brought up would be a good option, if they had already created every model for the game. They still need to create more, and if they do what you suggest for them to do, they would need to create 2 versions of every (specifically from one piece) model rather than only needing to make the original ones + not needing to stress about dmca. I think if anything that would end up delaying the game more, if they needed to create a model + a back up for everything going forward

TBH using original designs for Rell Seas is honestly pretty cool. When SL2 got taken down, they had to scramble just to de-copyright everything, and it was completely uncoordinated, making stuff look rediculous. Now, it actually feels like they're creating a (sort-of) original world based on One Piece. It's super interesting.

I think it's a smart move to revamp the game assets now and just because they did not take down any one piece game doesn't mean they will never take down any one piece game in the future. I get the sentiment that even the slightest changes would make the game feel like it's not a one piece game but It's better to be safe than sorry. After all, the game assets are just visually and not the in-game content which is the only thing that matters. That's the core of Rell Seas. The one piece aesthetics are just there like an icing on the cake. The game would look good if it's 1:1 with one piece but at the cost of being taken down at any moment. Nah, that's a big risk. idk why people think the authors of anime/manga franchises own the IP, but Oda does NOT own one piece he is the writer and artist of one piece and gets royalties from the franchise but the one piece IP itself is owned by shueisha ( the owners of shonen jump) and viz media (the localization owners of one piece), oda has ALMOST complete creative control on the story and designs but the rights to game development, adaptations, actual manga publishing and merch is completely out of his control he had to request permission to help on the live action show the final say on whether a one piece game is struck down or not comes down to shueisha (japan) and viz media (internationally) even if oda thinks its ok
