Back when the movie was released, I recall reading that many of the principal scenes were shot by Tinto Brass; then - separately - Bob Guccione Jr shot additional "supporting" footage (i.e. the pornographic scenes) a bit later. The porn scenes were edited into the principal photography, so that the final, released version of the film was far worse than anything the stars thought they were working on. (Allegedly, a few of the stars attempted to have their scenes removed from the movie, but that went nowhere.)

Bacchus is just the name the Roman's adopted for dionysus. It's basically the same cult and the same god. The Roman's even had their own more indigenous god of wine, parties and freedom known as Libre. The cult of the wine god has protoindoeuropean roots. Wine and human history kinda go hand in hand

Two Roman emperors Caligula and Caracalla are today not known by their real names but by their nicknames based on items of clothing that they wore as children -Caligula because of the little boots he wore as a child and Caracalla because of the type of cloak that he wore.Fastforward about 200 years from now and imagine that Prince Charles of the U.K. will not be known by his real name (perhaps Charles III but a nickname based on clothes he wore as a child perhaps "Jodphurs" -these are trousers worn when playing polo a game Prince Charles loves.Would be hilarious!

Hey Weird History, you should talk about the 1990 Oka Crisis. It’s very interesting.

Primary sources about Caligula comes down to us from Suetonius in his book The Twelve Caesars. It is as if 2,000 years from now people read the National Enquirer to understand our history.

Always the hate bait gets taken. Hate a government administrator, then watch opportunity knock. Caligula was deliberately gaslit in a very violent way, imo
