No wonder why Brazil wanted Xabi Alonso to coach them. They reserved this plan in case they could not confirm Carlo Ancelotti to be their coach. Alonso is a visionary.

@@QueerChica Ironically, Carlo would fit their demands for more loose discipline and flair so well, considering how he lets players express themselves rather than demanding strict pressing and defending from attacking players as well - whether it be Vinicius & Rodrygo, Cristiano and Bale or Kaka. Grimaldo! I´m a Benfica supporter and i think it's incredible how no one saw how good this player is. Now even the Spaniards themselves are calling him up for the national team. The man spent 8 seasons at Benfica and no one cared. Yes, I know that the Portuguese league is not seen much around Europe, they say it is one of the farmers leagues, but the guy was delivering during 8 seasons like he is delivering now. Also Alfie, you can also make another video about the role of Kazakhstan as the 21st century first sportswashing state and its dark impact. Many people mentioned a lot about autocratic nations using football to sportswash while keep killing people (such as Russia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Azerbaijan) but Kazakhstan's role deserved a lot of attention because their switch from AFC to UEFA in 2002 has been accused as clearly serving for an autocrat (Nursultan Nazarbayev), and human right movements have called for expulsion of Kazakhstan from UEFA due to its authoritarian nature, having successfully campaigned the European Union not to grant Kazakhstan the green light join the EU. But UEFA was unable to find a solution and because of their decision in 2002, this has since become Europe's biggest stain on their reputation as a leading continent of democracy and human rights, and has inspired authoritarian rulers to follow the Kazakhstan playbook.

Geez I love Xabi Alonso. He was a maestro in his prime and now he is living up as a super manager. Also I think you should mention something about Turkey's management crisis. While we are currently having some success under Vincenzo Montella, we knew clear that it is just an attempt to calm fans. Stefan Kuntz's reign as our team's coach exposed severe weakness in Turkish football system due to our lack of a long term strategy and the inability to entrust on young players and Kuntz sacking, I fear, may not be able to address the inner problems because it is predated for a decade.

There is one thing missing, the goalkeeper-captain Lukas Hradecky, incredible shotstopper with lightning reflexes and cool-as-they-come attitude. Known to take a beer with fans after victory, and an after-game showman, who, at least in international games borrow the horn from Pohjoiskaarre -capo, to make crowd chant his favourites. I was with my brother watching Finland-Slovenia Euro-qualifier, where next to us were Lukas´ brother Tomas Hradecky and his stag party, football players famous in Finnish league and then some, and Mr. Lukas Hradecky had the time to wave at us making noise for him. Relaxed as ever, no dip in performance. Ask Leverkusen -fans, they probably love him too! Top2 goalkeeper in Bundesliga, 3rd or 4th season in Leverkusen, I´d guess... As for medicine giants making atrocities knowingly and for fun, and I appreciate that this came up, adding to ones mentioned in the video, Purdue pharma selling oxycodone as a miracle drug with NO SIDE EFFECTS for decades in US, yes, it is a functioning, VERY potent painkiller, for cancer pain, temporarily for broken foot or such, nerve damage pain and so on, but NO side effects? Pharmacy, pharmacology and toxicology are my trade, and I didn´t believe doctors in US went for that. Time and time again, thalidomide, Clinton Foundation´s diluted antibiotics, tests on African children, and just wait for the actual backlash of those, even mandated, coerced "medical interventions" that were forcefully pushed on especially western people to cure "an unknown virus of an unknown origin" as the Critical Drinker says (which was almost as deadly as seasonal flu), with a disclaimer for BigPharma, beforehand... If I was in the business, I´d not put money on pfizer, moderna or johnson & johnson anytime soon. Albeit the corrupt legal system covered the owners of Purdue Pharma, the Sacklers, from any real monetary responsibility in the Oxycodone-case, which is abhorrent and disgusting. At least a century of very bad behaviour and most people still believed pfizer and politicians they funded and media they now own?`If only football fans would have their eyes open and said "NO", world would be a better place, you know there are really a ton of us, EPL alone.

Alfie should make a video about Australia's AFC membership struggle. Ever since joining the AFC in 2006, Australia has been prevented from playing in the regional, senior AFF Championship because Southeast Asians deemed Australia as too powerful and culturally not related to any Southeast Asian nations. Then in 2015, Arab regimes in the Arabian peninsula tried, alongside Southeast Asian countries, to remove Australia due to the country's involvement. There were a lot of conspiracies in the Middle East that Australia bribed referees to defeat the UAE and Peru during the 2022 World Cup playoffs to deny the Middle East another Arab team. The resentment against Australia's AFC participation is so deep in many Asian nations, with the exception of Japan and South Korea due to these countries' stronger football reputation.

The fact that WAFF and AFF (ASEAN) wanted Australia to be excluded from AFC in 2015 was quite strange, given that it happened after UAE and Iraq's semifinal defeat during that year's Asian Cup. Before the tournament itself, AFC wanted Australia to face either Japan or South Korea in the final. In reality, the Socceroos faced the latter after losing 0-1 on the initial group stage encounter and somehow won 2-1 after extra time. Because of the loss in the group stage, the Socceroos could have faced Japan in the semifinal, but Japan lost to UAE. In turn, when UAE hosted the Asian Cup four years later, the AFC also helped several Arab regimes to get better results, resulting in 3 Arab countries (UAE, Iran, Qatar) making all the way to the semifinal, along with Japan, and Qatar won that tournament.

Iran and Saudi Arabia are also another powerful challengers to Australia but, Iran is deeply corrupt and mismanaged, while Saudi Arabia only wants to hoard trophies and also shares similar resentment like their fellow monarchies of the Gulf. The rest of Asia lacks sufficient quality to challenge Australia but Japan and South Korea don't see it a problem.

I'm a huge Arsenal fan, and they lost again this week against there old enemy Bayern Munich, so that's enough reason to detest the german red-white club. The football of Bayer this season is absolutely wunderful, I've rarely seen a better one. But I'm so glad you've mentioned the hidden corpses from Bayer and Monsanto. In India they control almost the entire crop-seed market. The poor farmers are forced to buy the exaggerated expensive genetigally modified seeds from Monsanto - and still have to use a lot of herbicides causing cancer and misscarriages. The world is very difficult to understand in its own. But you cannot trust big companys with there "studies" about there products!!! Never forget that. North London forever!

Having studied East Asian history and culture myself, I think Alfie should make a unique video about Vietnam national team's neo-cantera football policy that set them away from the rest of Southeast Asian nations. The word _cantera_ means quarry in Spanish, and is the most unique feature of Athletic Bilbao, one of only three La Liga clubs that have never been relegated. However, Vietnamese football makers have radicalised Athletic Bilbao's player policy by propping up a neo-cantera one, during which the national team follows an unwritten law that will never naturalise any player who are not of Vietnamese origin or player (including diasporic ones) who can't speak Vietnamese or have no relatives in the country, and will only prioritise players for the national team that passes these criteria: born or live in Vietnam for five years, having relatives in Vietnam, and speak Vietnamese like a local. This was noticed when I found Vietnam league is the least friendly to signing foreign players as their law only allow signing three foreigners and restrict heavily on naturalised players, and their national team has never employed any naturalised player since 2008, which has resulted in criticism by other Southeast Asian fans over their radical neo-cantera plan. If Bilbao fans stumble to see this, I think they will be surprised as well.

Yet Thailand national football team has struggled to live up to the hype and recently they face a daunting prospect to advance to the final round of the 2026 WCQ after suffering a devastating 1-2 defeat to China at home soil, not to mention despite the wealth, Thailand has never appeared in a single World Cup and even they have not even won a match at the final round of a WCQ while their Asian Cup record was quite poor since the 1990s despite frequently making appearances there.

I'm just a BuLi fan without any preferred club and I always wondered, when Stuttgart could potentially rise again. They had very talented players for many years, better players than most other relegation candidates for sure. I just wonder, how all that is possible, I don't know that much about VFB Stuttgarts background other than them having some more "restless" times in upper management (which makes their rise even more impressive, other successful clubs are normally pretty stable and well run in that regard).

It would be a huge story though if Bayer Leverkusen win the Bundesliga title preventing not only Bayern Munich from winning the league for the first time in over a decade but also Harry Kane in his first season now how unlucky would that be for Harry Kane if he still ends up trophy less at the end of the season despite moving to perennial Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich it would almost make him look cursed

Great video! I knew some about Leverkusen past, but never did proper research. Two cents though: last season BVB's captain was still Marco Reus, so he would be the one to lift the trophy if they won title.

I’m from Mexico and when it comes to European football I’m a Barca and Bayern Munich fan but I’ve always liked Leverkusen especially because of all the Mexican players they’ve had over the years, I’m happy with how they’ve been and hope that they can get another Mexican player soon

Key to really challenging Bayern this season will be surviving Jan+Feb when there will be African and Asian cups Leverkusen will miss 5 important players (Tapsoba, Kossounou, Adli, Boniface, Tella), Bayern only 2 (Kim. Mazraoui)

It's crazy that they came that close to a treble in 2002. Leverkusen only has a population of about 170,000 people. I'm English but I can tell, this is no ordinary club. There's obviously a spirit about them, especially now.

They are also called "die Pillendreher" which is a pun, since it means Pill-rollers, because Bayer produces pills for a lot of things but it's also the german name for the Dung Beetle... 😅

Roger Schmidt Leverkusen got me into soccer in the first place. I wasn’t really a Leverkusen fan because I have no connection to the place but it seems the club is very well run in its willingness to take innovative risks.

Going to really hope Leverkusen can keep up their impressive form in the second half of the season, mostly because I'm tired of seeing Bayern just claim the title year after year. Definitely an impressive season thus far, I just hope they don't get completely gutted once the usual handful of clubs start sniffing around for all their talented players.

I don't think they are causing Bayern headaches. Bayern are just 2 points behind, only dropped 4 points so far, have a real number 9 now and they get a bit more rest since they are out of the cup.Leverkusen would need to continue this exelent form until the end of the season and we all know that they won't. Just like noone really believed Dortmund would win the league last season, noone believes Leverkusen will do it this time. Sad to say, but in the end, Bayern always wins.
