I hope you're still loving them at 23💗 And I know how you feel: When I was 16, one of my best friends was a huge music buff and a brilliant guitarist--he was more than 10 years older than me and taught me almost everything I know about music. But *I* had the honor of introducing him to the classic L.A. punk band X😊 He'd never heard them, and he loved them to death💖 Even got me their autographs when he went to see them live🥰

It gets a bit tiring to always hear the Replacements referred to as underrated, but I will say that this song is underrated. I always thought it was just great, and never understood why people wrote off All Shook Down and almost all of the Replacements' post-Tim output. There's tremendous stuff there.
@rdrrr7 ай бұрын
@darrenholmes4213 I wanna like it but I find because so many of the songs are midtempo and downbeat they kinda blur together. There are some really excellent tracks on _Shook_ though. I particularly love this one, the creepy title track and the energetic and desperate "Bent Out of Shape".

Absolutely the greatest band of the 80's. They influenced so many bands but destroyed their chances of stardom on purpose. Self-destructive behavior!! I'm 55 and saw them all through the 80's and to this day still wonder, 'what if???" Westerberg is an amazing songwriter. They have never received their due

I love this band. I've seen them live many times, and love everything from beginning to now. The wonderful early videos with just speakers thumping and the occasional 'human' touch like a cigarette flick or whatever to the full on performance video here. There are lyrics here that are so wise, and yet so believable. I'm an eternal Florida fan.

I wish I listened to them 17 years ago when I was 13 and introduced to punk/alternative. me being the punk rocker I am loves their early stuff and love the fact that they evolved into that alternative music.its a shame that this bands broken past haunts them and prevents them to be active currently but I have become a huge fan of tommy Stinson and love his music.

Actually the first Mats song I ever heard (completely unwittingly) I remember hearing this on college station as a 13 year old in the mid 90s when this was still relatively contemporary, despite them breaking up a few years before, (right in time of course to miss the whole alt rock/grunge breakthrough which could have made them huge stars had it happened 5 years earlier.) Made enough of an impression that I recognized it years later when I got around to All Shook Down after Let It Be, Tim and PTMM. Even thought this is clearly them breaking up (and really a Westerberg solo song) still a classic. How I love this band

A hush was the first word you were taught And I watched you wear the clothes they claimed that they bought They brought you down To watch the merry go around In fall, you knew how much cost The trouble doll, around your neck when you lost You wouldn't make a sound But I could hear your little heart pound And I watched your feet slip off the ground Merry go round, in dreams Writes 'em down, it seems When she sleeps, she's free Merry go round, in dreams You wake to another day and find The winds blowin' outta key with your sky Only you can see And the rain dancin' in the night Everybody stands around in daylight Merry go round, in dreams Writes 'em down, it seems When she sleeps, she's free Merry go round, in dreams And everybody thinks she's sick Shes got two worlds she can pick And she's sad ... Hush is the only word you know And I stopped listening long ago They ignored me with a smile You as a child But the trouble doll hears your heart pound And your feet say good-bye to the ground Merry go round, in dreams Writes 'em down, it seems When she sleeps, she's free Merry go round, in dreams Merry go round, in dreams Merry go round, in me Merry go round Merry go round Merry go round

I understand old school (older) fans being mad at this stage in the game , post bob Stinson. But it’s a great song, and I’m glad I heard this record first. It was beautiful to find “stink” and hootenanny after this, you can see the songwriting progression. I much prefer late ‘mats to most classic rock, or even most late 90s modern rock. Paul is a great songwriter, even if this isn’t as great as let it be, I still love it.

No way.. I'm 28 and have been a huge Replacements fan for years. I got into them in the late 90s because of one of my favorite bands, the Goo Goo Dolls. My favorite Goo albums were all from their early years, when they were bashed for being cheap Replacements knockoffs. Frankly, both bands were hugely unappreciated during those years and had many great songs that got little attention from anyone.
