Great review. I have a Denix Charleville musket that our unit uses for a recruit weapon. When I brought it I sanded down the stock and re-oiled it, stripped it down and glued everything back together with Araldite. That was in 2001 and after 15 years hard use its as indestructible as ever.

+teetonball1 nice...its always handy to go over a newly purchased denix, to make it more realistic..most people don't like the series of denix guns,i find them ok for their intended purpose...tho some, particularly the western stuff, can be hit and miss.......but the ww2 items are a cheap alternative to the expensive deacs.

Thanks for update. Denix's new models definitely seem to be getting better- Sten Mk2 and K98 look 95% accurate, and look almost in correct proportion- which for them is very good.

It was about 15 years ago that I finally saved up and bought myself a 'real' de-act SMLE MkIII. When it arrived I discovered it was a LSA (London Small Arms) dated 1914. I then spent about the same amount on sourcing the original parts which had been replaced with later versions during her service life - she was double stamped with "EY" which was then over stamped with "DP", her original barrel had been replaced due to wear or damage and then the second barrel had worn out to the point where the "EY" was added (Only to fire live rounds in an emergency) ie, Jerry was kicking down the door so if the barrel blew up he'd get the shrapnel as well as you! After surviving both world wars she was "DP"'d for Drill Purpose only. She now has the correct muzzle with the piling swivel, a rear sight with windage adjustment, magazine cut off lever and front and rear Long Range Volley Sights. Several coats of walnut oil on the woodwork, a strip down and re-bluing on the metal work and a P07 bayonet up front. Looks perfect apart from being able to go bang (but at least the sharp pointy bit still works!) The only thing still missing is the little screw to hold down the rear sight spring - not that it needs it, that spring's going nowhere (despite trying to get it off to clean it!) Very good video by the way.

Hello from Canada! I share the same interests in collecting, and my latest purchase a week ago was a 1942 Maltby no4 mk1. This past Sunday I tried it out at the range, Fantastic! I am very angry about one thing though. I am angry and sad that videos I view from England all have deactivated firearms. On the same day at the range I fired other military guns, incuding a no2 mk1 revolver. I am not bragging, i'm just so pissed that a government can do this, and afraid it might happen here. Can you tell me how , when, and why these laws came about in England? With you're great knowledge and passion for this hobby, it is quite stupid that this kind of restriction is forced upon you. Thanks for all the informative videos, and keep them coming!

just to say the problem is with the rear sight; the foresight is at the muzzle end. but thanks for a very informative review

Thanks,pleased you enjoyed it,tho do be aware the guide lips for the charger clip are too wide to enable a clip to be supported and pushed into the mag...and obviously it will not cycle or eject....also dont rely on the sling mounts to support the gun when a sling is worn...they are only mask alloy and will bend or break.

The cheaper metal keeps costs down. Both in material and weight. As far as their knives and bayonets are concerned, it's the difference between 2 pounds of steel for the bayonet vs. 7 pounds of steel for the gun. Also, the knives are more likely to break as there's no other material (like wood) holding it all together.

£400 is what i paid for my lee-enfield guns SMLE mk3 steel BB 177 air rifle, it has its own problems but is great fun to shoot , i think when they were cheaper the denix guns definately filled a gap for collectors and re enactors but at £400 the working air rifle is the better bet or for re enactors a deac as while lacking function they at least will last and probably go up in value .

Yeah these denix replicas tend to break when you use them a lot (for film making reenactment etc..) because the metal is 95 % zinc that's what I don't like about the denix it's nice on the wall but kinda impractical everywhere else.
@darthsoldier6939
@darthsoldier6939 6 жыл бұрын
And also I've seen on the official denix channel that they are making tutorials of how to strip down and assemble these weapons lee Enfield being one of them but I won't try that since it really might break if I do that.

My original bayonet doesn't fit on the mount for the denix repro I just bought. I've filed the mount down but don't know where exactly to file or how much. The bayonet seems to go on alright up until a certain point where it just doesn't want to go down and lock into place. Any tips if you've had to do this?

PL insurance is only for displaying collections at public events, in case the public get injured on one of the items on display..also its an insurance cover for tradesmen who work in the public eye....it has nothing to do with purchasing/owning a replica firearm..

if you just want one for a ww1 set up...and lets face it...most display /reenactor ww1 kit nowadays is replica...then go for the denix....however if you want a period one which will hold its value, go for an original....but its difficult to make ones mind up regarding an original...some are better condition than others, some have features which others don't, and that's reflected in the asking price of an original...so the denix is a good gap filler....but an original will always be an original....if you see what I mean.

CosmoWW1 Renactor nowadays most groups don't know what they are missing...I well remember some years ago Ww2 US reenactors were quite happy to have repainted non original dutch helmets and nato green combat jackets!!!,because they wouldn't spend the money on period correct items...once upon a time "looking the part" was enough......reenactors, particularly the younger ones, don't have deep pockets and sometimes cant afford the real deal, so unfortunately a lot of groups become too clicky,and putt people off joining......one of the reasons why I did solo static display/re-enacting rather than group...I did apply to join what is/was "the second battle group" back in the early 1990s with all my original stuff what I had then at their disposal......still waiting for a reply all these years later!!!.
