Difficult to follow. Natural language is the best for learning. The visuals were too vague to add value to the storytelling. A lot of opportunity for details were missed with this presentation. I as a viewer would have liked to have been just as excited in learning this material but it came across as a commercial you want to tune out as its selling something you don't want. Visuals could have helped by keeping me focused as well as different voices reenacting the different characters positions and truly getting the main points from the books. Overall, I ddin't feel like I learned anything from this video.

heres the thing though ... if "The Republic" were correct and its teaching without flaw ... then why are we all still arguing about what "justice" is today? shouldnt it be clear what justice is? but yet .. there are 9 billion people in the world .. with 9 billion different ideas of what justice actually is ..

Who says “The Republic” is right about everything? We’re here to learn about what it says, not necessarily to agree with everything in it! When we study philosophy, we read various works that contain various-and often conflicting-ideas. We can’t possibly believe all the things we read; and we’re not expected to.
@KenMabie
@KenMabie Жыл бұрын
@@terry9238 that's an interesting point from someone who's never read Plato's Republic... The fact Plato's Republic has been around for damn near 3000 years and still hasn't been disproven is the proof is right about everything... Idiot
@KenMabie
@KenMabie Жыл бұрын
@@michaels4255 you think there are vast groups of people with the same exact beliefs and ideas? No... Even in fanatical groups like the religious each and every person has slightly different view points than the next. When 7 people look at the single moon in the sky. They all see a different moon. So is there only one moon? Or 7 different moons occupying the same space. This is the entire reason why there are different versions of the same religion... All versions of Christianity started with catholicism, then along came Martin Luther with his protest document nailing it to the church door but then wait then you have Joseph Smith and his golden plates... Well gee what happened ... Are you telling me that in a group of people that are supposed to have the same ideas the same beliefs that not everyone had the same ideas or beliefs and had a different view point... Well gee... Same with politics.. not every republican agrees with every other republican and not all independents agree on every topic Every person in existence has their own DNA, their own fingerprints, and their own viewpoints their own opinions and their own asshole... So you are completely wrong. The number of humans in existence is the number of different viewpoints of any given topic... And to be honest you're a complete idiot if you think otherwise... I mean what is your problem having your own opinion and your own viewpoint that differs from mine... You really are done kind of asshole proving me right when you claim I'm wrong... Do you get that.. it's sarcasm... Because in your claim they in wrong you actually proved me right...

Plato was a student of Socrates. Socrates did not write any works. Plato recorded down “dialogues” of Socrates such as Euthyphro, Meno, Apology, and Phaedo. It is questionable which ideas are Plato’s and which are Socrates’, but once you get to the Republic this work is certainly Plato’s own ideas. Aristotle makes reference to Plato’s theory of forms so clearly it is not something Socrates posited.
