The Republic Dark Ages Explained

During the Draggulch Period the Republic lost control of most of their territory outside the deep core to the New Sith. For a thousand years between 2000 bby to 1000 bby the Jedi held back the Sith onslaught from the unknown region. The Draggulch Period was one of the most turbulent times in galactic history.

Thor's Hammer 50,000+ on each side at the minimum and over 500,000+ at maximum. Gotta remember that this is the past and each side isn't going to have navies with over a million ships like those during The Clone Wars or New Sith Wars. But this is just my guesstimates...

Your right, in fact the Holonet collapsed for first time since its creation 10,000 years before. To put in Earth terms, all internet, phone, and radio contact with parts of the world was destroyed. So entire parts of the galaxy essentially went dark and no one knew what was going on any where. The Sith may have realized that if the galaxy can't talk to anybody, then no one can know what you are doing or ask for help. But probably because of the Force the Jedi could still 'feel' what has happening in cut off area's of the galaxy.

The Dark Jedi usually try to take over the galaxy as much as they could. That schism of theirs started a war. In fact, the Jedi showed them mercy by just kicking them out. The Republic wanted them dead. If all the Dark Jedi wanted to do was explore the Dark Side, they could have just left the Jedi Order just like Phanius did, with an amicable parting. Also, the Jedi are right about the Dark Side: many Sith such as Darth Zash and even Emperor Vitiate either had their bodies corrupted or experience great pain and suffering due to the Dark Side. Palpatine even explains in Dark Empire how the Dark Side cannot easily be contained in flesh, and how it is necessary to gain new bodies for a Sith to survive.

I'd say the times of the cannibalistic Rakatan Infinite Empire were pretty bad too. Enslaved, wiped out and even ate their enemies. What they'd do to force wielders was grim too.

You're right. These Sith couldn't be more far away from their starting point, Sith Alchemy almost obsolete, yet, by continuously adapting, they brought both their enemies to their knees. How? It'd be great if one day, they do a movie series on this dark time, kinda like the Clone Wars. In each season, a new Sith Lord is shown. First, Ruin, then the Dark Underlord... and I'd also love to know how Vitiate's Sith Empire finally crumbled which gave way to about 1600 years of Sith absence. Now that'd be something. You know, I love The High Republic, but if they did it in this timespan, gee, the Nihil could have been the big bad for longer with much more time to expand upon. But ofc the Golden Age being immediately before the Fall of the Jedi is also very ironic.

I just wanted to ask on an unrelated note, the Galaxy does not seem to have problems with child soldiers, that's just a fact. However another troubling pattern is that both local and Imperial legislative system seem to also promote child politicians. Padme and Leia both accessed their position through an election of some kind, that means a conscious choice on the part of the people to be ruled or represented by Hormonal teenager. This might just be a culture thing or the symptom of a dying democratic system, ready to elect anyone as long as they are charming enough with absolutely no regard to qualification.

They are supposed to fight, democracies should stay away from 1-party dictatorships like Communist China, North Korea, or Japan, where since 1955, only 1 other party has replaced the Jimintou party for a brief 3 years. Other than those 3 years, the Jimintou has been reigning since 1955 due to Japanese populace's lack of interest in politics and tendency to automatically vote for the sons of old governors ("bloodline democracy" it's like hereditary feudalism but not even mandatory!) 25~50% of the elected officials "democratically inherited" positions from fathers and grandfathers. It's a holdover from their WW2 Fascist days. And frankly, all the dirty tricks the communists (lies, they are really capitalist authoritarians = fascists in communist clothing) are doing now are stuff learned from Japanese and French imperialism.

Shadows however are millions of years old, extremely precise particle weapons, slip in and out of hyperspace at will plus their bio tech is beyond anything the empire has. Ultimately I think Shadows win as Imperials fall apart once you kill their best leaders - Emperor or Thrawn for example
