I was a warrior at the start of this tier, and felt so frustrated when we wiped to ppl not doing the mechanichs, i just rerolled to a fresh hunter from lvl 1, so that i can do mechanichs and not get punished for it in dps :D Now i'm a happy hunter and feel bad for my melee friends @Sludgefist or just M+ in general. Feels so much easier, not to deal with mechanichs, or have an easier time due to more space generally.

It takes time to get used to avoiding stuff as a melee, but honestly I couldnt imagine doing a boss like sludgefist as a ranged who has cast bars, I am too used to being able to use instants all the time while moving out, circling around to a better spot or otherwise, if you have a good melee shot caller you can ensure that it is very safe even on bosses that are bad for melee

I absolutely love melee dps but the game feels so designed around ranged, both in M+ and raids, makes me want to reroll. Especially in most M+ you can just stand back and dps as ranged, while melee has to deal with all the mechanics and shitty affixes like storming

It feels like PoE/Diablo. Pull huge packs of mobs and big bads, kite them around, and burn them down. This play style needs to stay in those games. TL;DR Kite Tanking is dumb.

Yeah it feels like the balance is just off. Tanks having to kite every single pack of mobs on some weeks, makes melee DPS even worse. Melee DPS is like 20% dealing damage, 20% mitigating damage, and 60% moving around mechanics. While ranged DPS feels like 90% doing damage and 10% moving around mechanics. I rerolled into a Warlock and found it really boring to play, since most fights you can actually just stand still 90% of the time.

Outlaw rogue is actually pretty good with RNG in SL, because of the "Count the Odds" conduit. It gives you a chance to gain a roll the bones buff each time you use dispatch/ambush. And if you also spec into "Marked for Death" you are swimming in dispatch casts. Now to be fair, this was my first time ever playing outlaw (Any my only other dps class I played was a DH), so I don't have any other patch/class to compare it to, but I found that rotation very engaging. The fact that your action priority changes slightly depending on which buffs you get felt very engaging.

hey boys at 4:30 or so in the video you ask why things like psychic link doesn't work out well, and the reason is that they scales it off of vampiric touch, and that is also what auspicious spirits scales off of. and the auspicious spirits do a flat amount more damage than 50% of a mind blast, in basically all senarios. thats why they only run that talent with things that only effect minds blast, for example the talbadars leggo and the mind blast conduit.

Well, in most Dungeons, pulls are too big and die too fast to dot everything and then mindblast. But Mists, Theater and spires Work quite well with psychic link (and Fortress, talbadars + conduit). Eventhough i am not Sure about psychic Link in spires/Theater, as These Dungeons have so much Singletarget, that i might not wanna give Up on apparitions.

Love playing and do play melee. The raid advantages for ranged are clearly abundant. While I prefer to dps raid, usually I have to off tank so instead of having two main toons for raid I just Pally it up for those two roles.

i think its fair to say that ranged and melee dpsers are just inherently different at this point. One does encounter mechanics well. the other dodges boss mechanics well. I find its rare for people to overlap with these differences at least in my experience.

Just a tip for you.. When you lust on that pack in the beginning.. You're supposed to lust on the 2nd boss as well and then use lust when it gets up during the last boss.. :)

Frost is only decent in blind, dragon & chill streak combo .. but nowadays most teams knows how to easily counter it .. and even if success most of the pressure comes from the team mate not the DK himself. that's why frost DK is so hard to play in 2v2 because how hard it is to secure a kill and do pressure . DKs overall now lacks pressure damage, defense and depend almost all the time on team mates to both survive and win .

My guild is only a heroic guild, and has been struggling for members with the SL burnout. We got walled at a few bosses from people not doing mechanics, dropped to a 2-2-6 just to get curve. We managed a cleaner clear with 4 melee in a 2-2-6 than we have all expansion. I think you have a point at ranged being "easier" but unless you are raiding mythic I think you can get by with whatever comp you want. However space issues for melee is less of an issue with only 10 people in the raid XD

Dunno if it's still the same but when SW:TOR first came out almost no teams would take melee to heroics or raids because most boses has an instant no cast bar AOE, we no voice or sound warning that would kill melee dps most of the time unless you got lucky or were over-geared. It got to the point where it you were melee dps you had 3 options, roll to tank, make a new ranged class or accept you were not going to do PVE content and maybe PVP. Wow is rough for melee compared to ranged imo, but not impossible.

So I was a DH main, was asked to go DK with hopes frost would be viable but ended up Unholy, my alts are my DH, MM, and Paladin. I play them all but the only one that raids is the DK. tbh Don't let noobs dictate what you play, frost is just as good and in some cases better than unholy. limit maximum said it falls off in execute phase but as someone whos been in the top 1% for dk as both specs for years i highly doubt id ever lose to an unholy if we're in equal gear and uptime (because of skill).

I mained a rogue through all of Legion and 90% of BfA. I rerolled Hunter this time (I had no idea EVERYONE else was going to do the same) with my lock as an alt. I've been feeling the pull to jump back on a rogue lately. I don't think it's a want to go back to melee though because I'm also toying with a mage. I haven't capped any of my rogues yet though but I may end up falling to it just because of how comfortable rogue is, especially in comparison to the other melee (barring maybe pali?).

pugging on my main - 223, consistently doing 14/15/16 with pugs - no problems. As soon as you do under 14, literally a 13, and no tanks sign up, no healers, takes 4 ever to get a group going and once it does, it's hell on earth. No one wants to do more m+ than necessary these days since it'll screw your vault over. Pugging is dogshit in SL unless you stay ahead of the curve..................

Ive been just about at the peak of the curve since m+ started and I can confirm this. Just today I had a 1k rio 215 dps in my +14 DOS, who didnt know the mechanics on manastorms (crystal soak) or dealer xyexa (jump with bomb). Ofc he also died during portal at last boss and our healer+tank didnt kill their guy either. If you dont want to contribute to the "elitism" of getting ppl with high rio, because you actually want to time your key, you roll the dice with every person you invite and it only takes that one guy to screw it all up.

I feel like such a big thing has been made of how unfriendly CN is for melee that next raid tier is just going to be, somehow, ranged hell, and every single fight will consist of having to stack in melee range and having to make lots of little micro movements, at unpredictable but fairly frequent intervals, to ensure you can't channel jack.

Most raids are unfriendly for melee, and it's never been a thing before that it means the next tier will be "unfriendly to ranged". It's pretty hard to even make something "unfriendly to ranged". Hunters don't care about having to move, mages can just blink, etc.

Where are you getting these dumb thoughts ? I'm hoping it's not your brain. All raids, since the dawn of time have been melee unfriendly and it's only gotten worse in the last expansions. And after every raid there's this discussion and it never changes. There might be a boss or two ( maybe ) that favor melee, but it's never that. It's always just "It's good for melee but not bad for range" and never the other way around.

It's not really that the raid is melee unfriendly, that's always the case. But m+ is also extremely melee unfriendly. I've never enjoyed ranged classes much but even I'm considering switching to ranged now... Doing m+ as a fire mage and slapping from range while not having to deal with 80% of the bs I have to deal with as feral has been nice. Despite feral being my favourite spec by far to actually play.

warcraftlogs website, sort by ret palladin per boss and see what talents and gear they run etc. Bloodmallet website for more data and simulationcraft website. You can checkout class guides on wowhead or icyveins but take them with a grain of salt because only SOME of the writers are actually good at the game and know what they're talking about. I found the warr and dk ones pretty accurate for example.

Use Warcraft Logs and you can paste your logs into WOW Analyser and it will give you a report that will criticise your game play to pedantic levels. 'You could have cast 30 holy shocks but you only cast 29.'

I think some melee specs will never be viable unless they get a utility buff like Feral, Ret pally (Currently healers do their job), WW monk (This is actually barely viable even with good utility), Enchance shammy, rogues. I believe the advantages of being ranged are extreme and when a ranged class provides great utility aswell it kinda makes melee a meme, unless your that AMZ bossman

This doesn't make any sense at all. The whole SP community wants searing nightmare gone even though it's strong, the point being that it's unfun to use, even though it's subjective, this is the general consensus between the majority of spriests. Also losing vamp touch would make us do less damage aswell through all spells including SN due to weaving (7-10% dps loss). A new build is on the rise with pshyic link and spread cleaving with mindblasts, but I hope they buff psychic link a bit more to make it more competitive and we'll have multiple builds we can use. DPS wise we're not in a bad spot in either raids or dungeons tbh.

@@menarg1549 I assume you mean Vamp Touch, but no, not really, it would basically break how shadowpriests work and always have worked. Because we'll lose percentage based damage due to weaving (10-15% extra damage per DIFFERENT dot on the target). We do more damage the more 'different' dots we have on the target. Vamp touch being a different dot we lose. Then SN being on cd means we lose even more damage, meaning shadow word: pain will need to do, what? INSANE anounts of damage on a single dot to make up for that. Then also we lose the misery talent, since that talent has no use w/o vampiric touch. Also SN will do less damage due to losing vamp touch. Vamp touch is a dot we always have had and it's fine, ppl just wanna use misery talent instead of SN because it makes multidotting a lot more fun to manage. Putting SN as a baseline spell instead of a talent, would also be good, since we can then utilize Misery AND SN. We are litterally the only spec that has AoE gated behind a talent, which is just stupid game design. If we dont pick SN, we basically don't have AoE damage, which is dumb.

Capped my monk last week. Starting pugging keys. You wouldn't believe the tanks I had. +2 through +8, actually had no problems. Then I had a dh tank, that didn't press soul cleave. Died 2 seconds into every pull. Lost my 10 key. Had a druid tank in full pvp gear that kept breaking cc on inspiring. Lost my 9 key. Got a decent tank for my +8, then for my second +10, had a pally tank that kept bopping himself at the start of every pull. Missed the timer there, but at least we finished it for vault. To be fair, I've been in protest of raider.io, so I wasn't filtering my choices too hard. After this experience, I will be getting raider.io....

As a rogue progressing heroic with my guild and being top melee DPS was I naive to how good rogue feels? Because hearing they aren’t in raids makes me question

Melee in general isn't very fun in SL. I guess. Never liked ranged and even I'm considering swapping to ranged now.

Started as melee, rolled to tank, because we needed one, then rerolled from ppala to vdh, because ppala felt like wet towel in terms of defense, then main alted melee, but blizzard really hate melee, about every m+ week has some pita mechanic for melee

Please dont. He does not even know half the mechanics, that are relevant in m+. He Just does damage and therefore times Keys in 15/16. Preach ist just a raider and not a m+ player.

i think you're definitely either a ranged or a melee person. I can play a windwalker monk ok-ish, but I can pick up any ranged much easier

That's because range is easier. It's the same for everyone. Range easy, melee hard because to strike an enemy you need to move to their face.

It feels like mechanics that punish ranged just feel like part of the fight and what you'd be doing anyway, while mechanics that punish melee are frustrating tedious side effects of how the fight would otherwise be going.

They're weakauras, you can find preaches on his UI video. My favorite is from wago.io search "Afenar", he makes one for every class/spec

Spriest here; You can actually run FoTM,Misery,Psychic Link for select dungeons like SoA, ToP, and Mists. You need Talbadar’s legendary to make it work, but the build is super fun and brings multi doting back into play. Spamming SN every dungeon was getting old so I’m glad to have the variable builds.

Live Searing Nightmare talent should be baseline as a 2nd spender. Similar to Starsurge/Starfall spenders for Boomies. Modified Searing Night talent could be changed to add VT+SWP, but no longer pulses. Adds a different playstyle element but also adds to better DOT spread cleave as opposed to burst cleave with the live version.
