Love this I was a Copilot on a DC-7 Airtanker we flew two crew and I took the place of the FE. So I got good at management of four 3350's

All, please bow to The Mother of all Radial Engines and never forget the moment you hear, smell and see it come to life for the first time. Great to see this baby being restored..

Love the Star Wars style intro! That's a massive radial to bring back to life. Those cylinders are massive!

those engines carried me for a couple thousand hours in Lockheed P2 Neptunes during the Vietnam war. I was radio operator and had a little window to look out and see the exhaust stacks for smoke and flames. Ha ha.

I think that you guys did a great job on this wonderful engine that is running so well with no smoke. Congratulations 👍👍👍

Perfect work; the best „fuel to noise converter“…..🧐👍👍👍👍🏋️♀️…..! I take three batteries (36V) for starting my engine. Maybe that a direct fuel injected engine starts easier than engine with carburetor …🤷♀️

INjected engines don´t sound as good! I still remember my Harley Davidson showel, fantastic sound! My Road King sounds just good!

Finally. A cameraman who records the event from aft of the prop! So many record from in front of the engine so you can hear the prop noise better. Just what we want to hear. Not! Great job.

To much music
@HistoricAeroEngines3 ай бұрын
The action starts in the middle of the video. However, for context, there is a reason for the music and introduction. The engines were acquired from a special effects company which supported the Star Wars movies. The music and intro is a nod to that heritage. Hope you enjoyed the action when it starts.

I love the R3350, but my heart still belongs to the P & W R2800, probably influenced by my family connection; my dad (RIP, Captain) was borne aloft many times by a brace of them in Korea, and they got him back safe every time. Oh, and they were attached to a hot rod plane called an A-26 Invader. Truthfully, I love any good radial engine, especially if they have 2 rows and at least 14 cylinders. The 18 cylinder engines have the sweetest sound, I think. Good show, gentlemen. May the Force be with you.

The music made me smile,love attention to detail....you guys had way too much fun doing this...envious to be sure.i worked on my R20007M2s on the aircraft fun getting oily n dirty even on a hot ramp.secret was I never told my employer I was having fun really; best radial engine video I've seen yet!! Did good

The once familiar roar of a R-3350 over Sproat Lake and The Port Alberni valley will soon only be a memory because the two long inactive Martin Mars flying boats are being reactivated for a final trip to Victoria BC Canada. and the other to Tucson Arizona USA. I hope Coulson saves a R-3350 for powerups at public events.

The intro created the perfect vibe for the gravity of rebuilding this monster. I haven't yet seen a rebuilt radial of this size come to life so spritely on the 1st go, it didn't even seem to want to settle below 2,000 rpm. Certainly no Chuk-ka-ta-chuck...cough smoke...weeze from this one.

It's kind of odd how the turbines keep spinning after the engine stops. How are they coupled to the crankshaft?
@HistoricAeroEngines2 жыл бұрын
Power Recovery Turbines are geared to the crankshaft by fluid couplings, and recover about 20 percent of the exhaust energy at takeoff power (550hp) and 240 hp at cruise.
