Found you from Joe Robinets channel. He said you answer questions. Well I have one. I adopted a dog from spca. Not sure of breed. They said she has some kind of hound in her but my problem is she has huge anxiety problems. We tried crate training her when we aren't home and did all the proper steps to associate crate with good things like treats and feeding. When we leave she literally hurts herself to get out. She chews the bars til her gums bleed, she bent the door and scratched her face up squeezing out so we tried letting her roam house while gone. That worked great for about a week. We thought problem solved! She just doesn't like being confined to a kennel. Well then she started chewing up stuff in the house and counter surfing so we can't let her roam house, tried containing her to one room and she chewed up bottom of door and scratched floor up. So then we started leaving her outside in the fenced in area that's about 20'x30' And all she does is dig out. She's about 4 years old and we are out of ideas. We've tried leaving her shirts with our scent and other tips we foumd online but nothing seems to be working. We even went to the extreme of getting another dog so she would have some company and not feel alone.. She's a great dog when we are home and somrone trained her previously bc she listens well. She just terrorizes everything when we leave the house for work. Only thing we haven't tried is doggie Xanax bc I didn't want to drug her up but I'm starting to think its the only option left to try.. Do you have any advice or ideas we could try?

I love dogs and training them, discipline is a huge thing, not just for the dog but for the owner as well. Most people don't pay attention to how a dog absorbs and learns from everything. Sometimes you have to have discipline and not show your dog affection at certain times.

I just joined the membership stuff and the first video I watched about prong collars WOKE ME up! The full videos unbelievably are MORE informative if that could even be possible. I had no idea! 10 bucks a month? STEAL of a DEAL! I've had lots of training (notice 'I'?) and I know I need more so I don't make mistakes that truly take you back to an earlier version, losing all the work one has done. I was taught how to use a prong collar twice 'professionally' and I've looked it up, I talk to anyone who has had dog training, I've listened to other professionals on HOW TO use a prong collar...yet, oh my Gosh, Robert! I've been putting that collar on OVER my dog's head. And to have one of our dogs get loose, is sign, high octane husband, catastrophic bunny stomping, and hubby has watched me do flying tackles that didn't turn out so well for me at this age. I'll be asking questions an awful lot; such as how to recapture our dog when they manage to get loose! How not to make such a big deal of it. I've been trying to only use my 'couch' voice they know. Hubby not so much. But it always ends up a tackle after cornering them in one of the sheds with hyperventilating cats and bunnies! My knees are Tomboy knees but shoot. Scars on top of scars, grins! We are working on getting this property completely fenced but that isn't such a big deal. They don't run away. They just RUN with these big big grins!! I am thinking about a 100 foot rope? Lots of pine trees for them to learn how to get untangled from but they'd be able to RUN. I KNOW we have to get the COME down!! That is tough without fences. We are working on small space come right now. And, I've got to ask about whether using my voice is helpful at all. The second they disobey the command I growl. Sort of a natural thing for me even with humans and poor hubby! The second they turn to obey...something...the second they do right I change my voice, MY ENTIRE DEMEANOR, they seem to respond quite well and sigh, I don't have to do any yelling or frantic moves or frustrated moves! I dunno. This just evolved from one of my weird habits. But I am able to completely change my voice and body to be the calm lovable mommy they know when they respond correctly. Shoot, is this too weird? We are out to get the proper sized and proper brand of prong collar. Chain collars ARE DANGEROUS. Prong collars won't break tracheas or necks when hubby or my police dog trainer use their testosterone. Prong collars are safer and help to 'soften' the hands of the owners! If those owners understand how testosterone works against us while training dogs...assertiveness is a perfect word for a trainer! I've tackled hubby a few times to make HIM 'gentle'. Garfed up knees, lower arms and legs, a few broken ribs and a broken nose is no big deal trying to train BIG dogs. Since 4 weeks old!! I know I know...we rescued these two puppies is what happened. Then hubby had a heart attack, quadruple bypass, kinda slowed the training down a bit and I am more able to convince him to learn objectivity sooner than later. Training a dog or two big high predator drive dogs with a PARTNER is a big big trick. Both trainers HAVE TO use the same words, know how to be VERY FIRM yet how to immediately reward even if it is 'good'. Robert, have you an insights on how to train in a partnership? I am finding I have to train hubby surreptitiously. One of my boys doesn't understand what the brother I am working with knows. Not even close yet. We switch dogs now but arghhhh...hubby sort of undoes what Jack 'my' dog has learned. My hubby has a big heart, he is a brilliant guy, but never had a dog of his own. No pets at all. Having wifey trying to explain how to change to be more successful with 'his' dog is like walking on eggshells. I think this might be an excellent video or talk to create. The ENTIRE family needs to be trained on how to MAINTAIN any training that has been done with their canine family member. Tricky issue and it usually trickles down to harmful and confusing to the dog!

Robert, would teaching fetch as you do at all help in retrieving a person to come when the calling person is on the ground? My Honey and I are working on teaching our GSD 8 month old boydog to be a service dog for me as I am a 21+ year long survivor of brain cancer with multiple recurrences. In other words, if I fall and really cannot get up, I need Gus to go get her for me. Associating Dani as one to go get, or "fetch" in this case, seems to make sense to me. I am hoping for some helpful advice and guidance here. MANY thanks to you for all your very helpful videos. Gus is doing GREAT as a result. He sure loves to learn, as do I of your methods with him. He brings a ball or stick back to me without ANY problem at all.

Is this training technique best practiced with a dowel or any flat or tubular object first and then with a ball or does it matter? It seems it is easier to get the dog to hold/out the object if it is a dowel or flat object/dumbbell shape.
@djarizona5 жыл бұрын
I guess this would be in ask you anything question. How long do you figure it takes to achieve a finished dog like goofy? My 4 1/2 month old Malinois Loki knows sit, stay, platz, spins right & left, and now working on a rollover. He kind of gets angry and grumpy when I take him through something kind of wonder what that’s all about?

Agree with you on the forced fetch. I find that whole process rather disturbing and deeply unpleasant for the dog. Great video. Could you also teach us the terminology for the positions - for example "present" is the front position, holding the dumb bell.

Robert, Joe Robinet sent me I have a question my dog is afraid of tall men and vehicles
@RobertCabralDogs5 жыл бұрын
did something spook him? I would start by slowly getting him around his fears at a distance and reward good behavior. DO NOT reward him when he's afraid... give him time to settle down.

I have 4 rescued dogs that came with issues. Goofy is amazing and a well trained shepherd dog however I dare you to work with my rescued Siberian husky cross! My “wild child”, Beany. That said, I picked up some excellent tips. Try teaching a pure Siberian how to retrieve is challenging. Thank you for your videos.

I'd like to think dogs after 50,000 plus yes by our sides could evolve more than to be an endentured servant
@liamvanvel19965 жыл бұрын
Operant conditioning rewards the dog for a behaviour they perform, its how we teach dogs to detect cancer, herd sheep, guide the blind, and protect us. Through helping us they get food and love, that is what allowed us to even "get" dogs in the first place. If they werent of any use they wouldnt be domesticated.
@turkeyburglarjones61485 жыл бұрын
Jonathan schadenfreude dogs love to work, that’s all they want. If you don’t believe me then maybe you’ll believe all theses “pets” who receive no basic training or even the tiniest bit of exercise and act horribly. If you don’t give them a job they will make their own up
