4:45 good times, makes me nostalgic seeing that website. Right after r/place ended I and the other devs for Place Atlas quickly made a complete overhaul to the website a few weeks later adding a new interface (by yours truly), improved editor, and dynamic timeline support. Too bad it all went under the radar, took a little longer than expected to add the new features, but hey at least we have all the tech in place for the next r/place.

i remember one of the communities I'm in (the Encanto community) had to make a deal with the Oyasumi Punpun community just to so we could have our butterfly up. Though at one point Lithuania tried to erase us both and we had to work together to save our spot. With other coming in effectively shrinking Lithuania.

The fact that people could keep the QR code working at all is an amazing testament to Reed-Solomon error correction codes. Without them, one misplaced pixel would break the entire QR code it would be practically impossible to fix.

Actually, we (I mean French cuz I am French and proud of) didn’t used bots, Kameto (the kind of Général De Gaulle of France in r/place) sometimes got the most viewed stream on Twitch and there was other French streamers tho. But Spanish’s clearly used bots, one example, at the end (with only white pixels) you can see that French art disappears at an impossible speed. And the only things we used were some lines of codes telling us where to place what pixels but we had to place them, it wasn’t automatic so it’s not a bot. And about the story of the « 10000 bots » that Kameto said, he said « upvotes ». So one thing to remember, the French are proud of their countries and hundred of thousands people almost never slept during this event. We are French, we don’t use bots (unlike Spanish guys), and we are proud of. Vive la France 🇫🇷 !

Was part of the osu community that was constantly bombarded by trollers. A little tidbit of lore: osu had a lot of alliances with star wars, nijisan, hololive, komi and a lot of other smaller communities. We protected each other and supported one another during many raids, like the XQC raid. It was a beautiful time, loved the big community spirit
