Yeah, same for me when I first heard the voice of 'Captain Nog' :-( It is nice, though, that the actors who did these roles agreed to come back to voice the characters again, even if it was 'only' for a game. I kind of feel that Denise Crosby probably personally got some 'closure' with Tasha Yar, after really brought more life into the character (and Empress Sela) than the series ever did, and brought her character arc(s) to a satisfying conclusion......which I still have to play through myself (I've ruined SO MANY 'episodes' for myself by watching this series ^_^).

Tzenkethi: "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." Federation: "Hey! That's our line!" Which just goes to show the kind of damage that axiom can cause. It sounds pretty, logical even, until you suddenly find yourself counted amongst the 'few'...
@HogtreeOctovish3 жыл бұрын
Except that's not what it means. It's about *self-sacrifice,* not genocide. Choosing to sacrifice your well-being to help others. In context, Spock *choosing* to put the lives of his crew above his own. Especially since they were all going to die anyway, if Spock did nothing. Nothing in that scene justifies killing innocent people. And I wish people would stop misinterpreting it as if it does.
@barbedwire833 жыл бұрын
@@HogtreeOctovish I think you are both right. That original scene in Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan has nothing in it that justifies killing innocent people, but the interpretation of that phrase was the point TheSuperRatt was trying to make. It can be interpreted or expanded upon in more than one way. If an AI as we know it were to find meaning in that phrase, it could easily come to the conclusion that if sacrificing itself could save a station, sacrificing a world could save the galaxy. It either doesn't realize or chooses to ignore that to sacrifice others is a crime against life. There are even examples of logical failure of this magnitude, but with a lesser scope of consequences, in living beings in the Star Trek universe. We can see a similar logical failure happen in the DS9 7th season episode "Field of Fire", where a Vulcan starts killing people that have pictures of themselves laughing. The Vulcan was only 1 of 6 survivors of a Dominion attack that destroyed the USS Grissom, which had a crew count of 1250. This was enough of a trauma that it ruined the Vulcan's self-control and possibly even his sanity. The M5 AI in the Star Trek Original Series S2 episode "The Ultimate Computer" is another good example of logical failure. It shows what could happen if our AI example were flawed or damaged in some way.
@ssjwes2 жыл бұрын
The "needs of the many" is supposed to come from those that sacrifice and not those that would sacrifice them. A mother gives up things to help and protect their children, this is the correct way to think about this saying. You can't really compare a species bred for battle to individuals who are not. J'Ula and Akar are cowards, insults to the Klingon way, and the only reason they survive as long as they do is due to PIS. Because the writers say they have to be around to antagonize you. If not, you would have dealt with J'Ula as a Discovery captain. But no matter how well you're doing in that battle, she always activates the weapon. And then, no matter how much damage you do to her ship in any subsequent encounters, she always slinks away, tail between her legs. 'Though as bad as I think J'Ula is I have some understanding of her as a person. I cannot say the same for Akar. Gowron is a much better Klingon. As far as antagonists go, I much prefer Sela and T'Ket. Even Hakeev has reasons to sneak away each time you would have killed him, but then he is a more traditional Romulan. J'Ula is Klingon, and supposed to be all about that life. What is that thing Worf is always saying? I don't think she's said it once.

@@orkloven The way you earn ship XP is timed fairly well. I rarely seemed to reach full mastery at an awkward time in a story arc, although I did get one just before the finale in the Vaadwuar Conflict. I like using different ships, especially if I have one that performs appropriately for a given mission. I had the Magee for 'Delta Flight,' and anytime time travel to the past is involved I try to use a Connie variant. I used the T5 Advanced Escort (forget what it's called) for a bunch of patrols since it's basically a patrol boat, and a Defiant variant for missions involving the Breen and/or DS9. If you roll a Dominion character, you do a brief tutorial where you meet Odo and Loriss, then you enter the wormhole, and join the battle at this point in the narrative. Then you choose to join either the Federation or the KDF, and experience those storylines as historical holographic reenactments, or whatever. All of the other factions have their own unique stories before they dovetail with the others, but the Dominion is the least detailed. You also start at level 60 with a Tier 5 ship, so I guess it's sort of intended for experienced players who maybe deleted their older characters, and want to jump right back in and get up to speed.

@@ptonpc Because he's never been to the time periods in question related to the events that we will discover unfolded. Hale has absolutely nothing to do with this. He's just the big damn hero who's gonna Starfleet his way to bumbling success.

I'll say, realistically speaking, there's no such thing as a "station" in space. If you have even the most basic of thrusters, you just have a slow moving ship.

I actually plan on creating a similar game to star trek online, based on a separate possibly to be real star trek timeline.

How can you upgrade your weapons to fight the Vaadwaur?
@Ashendal3 жыл бұрын
You can either rerun older missions to get weapons at higher marks and rarity, or use the upgrade system using things like phoenix upgrades. It takes a lot of dil to upgrade all your stuff past mk XII very rare that you get from missions though so keep that in mind.

Each shot is a bit weaker but they fire at a higher rate and hit multiple targets. Great for Hurq and Terren Empire, who tend to Strike with a lot of weaker Frigates.

There's a similar ability called cannon scatter volley - it fires a burst at multiple targets. Very handy against swarms of smaller ships.

It sounds like this game would be MUCH better as a single player campaign rather than an MMO.
@daveh77203 жыл бұрын
The great majority of the missions are single player, but instead of a single campaign there are story arcs that consist of a half dozen (more or less) missions in sequence. But the arcs aren't sequential, so it's possible to play one first that would have made more sense if it came after another arc. There are team activities - multiplayer fleet operations and ground combat zones - but they're not really mandatory unless one drops some loot that you want. I play solo exclusively and don't feel like I'm missing out.
