I’m the merfolk guy haha. Game one my hand was scout tidebinder vial land land land and gill. I drew vial land land tideshaper land lol. My goal with the tidebinder was stifle the affect and I thought it would sac itself, for some reason I thought it was evoked not hard cast

Knowledge for your tournament: Hideous Laughter doesn’t enable Visions, or Jace, or Drown. It EXILES cards until it has exiled total cmc of 20 or more.

1:58:38 hey I saw you mention this against each game against Mill, Field of ruin forces you to search and always activates archive trap. So even if you don't take an island out of your deck it doesn't matter because you've "searched it"

Just a thought while watching, you kept saying that you should opt out of getting a land when field of ruin is cracked to keep more cards in your deck, but the card forces you to search and get a land. its not a 'may' abilitly.

It forces you to search but you have the option to “fail to find” a land. I do this several times in this game.

If you are worried about the Leyline.... Maybe play Hibernation? Seems pretty good since it's basically a kicked Cyclonic Rift against them. 🤷

It's a bit clunky at 3 mana. I might tap out to bounce 2 or 3 creatures and they just replay them over the next 2 turns. I asked the community what success they had with the card and their experiences lined up with my theory. I'm sure it works here and there but doesn't look reliable enough for me, especially if I don't have Vial to keep up pressure.

What are your thoughts on Aether Gust vs Hibernation for the sideboard?

I'm not sure if Hibernation will do what we want it to do. But It's certainly playable. I'm concerned of never getting the 3rd land in time or that I waste 3 mana on a turn so the opponent just dumps their hand back easily.

Hey Nikachu, thoughts about UW Merfolk right now? Painless manabase and unsettled mariner for some protection? Also enables some white sideboard cards…

The Merfolk community, including myself, has playtested Unsettled Mariner and it's just too poor of a card to play. It's mostly a 2/2 that mildly inconveniences the opponent's removal but doesn't stop it. So if you go Azorius it needs to be for several other great cards.

Thanks for your response. I’ll try it nevertheless. Mariner has all synergies with merfolk and is also a blue card to pitch to fon or subtlety… and I hope I can benefit from white exile effects out of the sideboard. Fingers crossed 🤞

He last the last round if the opponent blocks to save his jace and then minus 7 to mill 21 cards and win the next game. So really this should have been 3-2.

Side out Hexcatcher, Side in Sub/Seas/Cused Totem. Sub Grist if it's played turn 2. Kill mana dorks with Dismember to keep the opponent off BB for Yawgmoth, same with Seas.

No, they play Chord often on your turn and it's only 4 cards in their deck. It's really hard to get value out of FoN.

I hate it. It works best when you have 3 or more creatures out already and from there you don't really need it.

Many. The crabs are pretty good to mostly mill you out. They just have to keep their head above water long enough with removal to finish you off with one or two more haymaker mill cards
