For people curious about how the reaction mechanic works in UFO: your current reaction score is your remaining TU% x reaction stat. When a character acts in the line of sight of an enemy who's reaction score is higher than theirs, that enemy gets a snap-shot (which cost them TUs as normal, in turn further reducing their reaction score). If you want overwatch to work, you need to leave your guys with as many TUs as possible and even then fast aliens will beat them to the shot - it's entirely deterministic.

I love how X-com has survived this long. When I was young I used to play x-com and even then it was bloody old graphic and age wise. To this day even X-COM2 isn't quite the same "vibe" game. Hell even the old X-COM sequels like the 3rd game, X-COM Apocalypse, was quite...well ...bad I guess would be the word. X-COM 1 my personal fav, and X-COM tftd have been the most solid and streamlined of the series. Also the only game where you can lose 12 people in a mission and still be laughing and carry on. Also very nice randomization and very well balanced in terms of making you feel like every mistake is your own.

I know, right? The original X-COM series was actually how I discovered the Yogscast. I went looking to see if anyone had done a playthrough video of the original game, and it turned out Lewis and Ben had--within a week or so of when I did the search. The bumper segment with the _MoonQuest_ music video led to there, and, well, now my YT window is like wall-to-wall Yogs member tabs.

To hide any folder you do what I do... you name everything new folder (new folder (1), new folder (2)) and create a folder labyrinth. 1nsie 1 folder is 2, in each of those there is 3, inside all 6 of those there are 4 and so forth. I have SOOOOO many folders in my labyrinth... It's a beauty to look at.

I personally hide things by putting them in inconspicuous folders, like "Random Sarcastic quote generator" and then i put a random sarcastic quote generator. Of course, there'll be config folders and such. But one of them isn't like the others. One of them is actually home to the secret stuff. Where nobody would look.

When you boys were talking about the ranks in the army and air force, I believe the real reason behind pilots being heavily promoted was because, when their planes get shot down they were treated better when they were of higher rank. The whole idea was that the enemy would treat superior soldiers better as POWs. Not entirely sure if that's correct but I remember it from some novel on D-Day...

Seeing as it came up, lieutenant is pronounced leftenant as it was originally spelt lieftenant (check the Oxford English dictionary, it's in there under lieutenant spelt both ways), the spelling changing to lieu later, this is why most English speakers still pronounce it left rather than loo. Also while I'm on the subject of officers, Audie Murphy was a first lieutenant in the U.S. military, and a Major in the Texas National Guard, he was a commissioned officer. Yes I know this is 4 year late.

So, I got XCOM UFO Defense as a gift. tried it out. 2nd easiest difficulty, first campaign, first mission was a huge ufo with 6 sectoids. second mission was a terror attack. There were sectoids. and then there were these indestructible floating discs of doom that wiped me. And this was supposed to be my second mission, an in game month into my campaign! I think the xcom gods hate me
