I mean as a Christian I'd also remind you of the Great Commission, which is a commandment to spread the gospel... But there is an appropriate way to go about it. I think sending a book or an email is pretty harmless all things considered. If it were in-person or continual online harrassment from the same person, then I'd say they should chill.

Yeah! Like i am an aspiring writer and i genuinely want to send my book to Daniel. I'd be ok if he didn't show it on camera or reviewed, but I love his channel and without him knowing it he was a part of my writing journey and I just want to share that. But i can totally see how it can come off as "just another author trying to get a big KZbinr to review their book and do some unsolicited promo". Which is why if he has the restrictions of not showing or reviewing self promo books on camera, I'll understand, but it's better than just not being able to send it to him
@austenhead53032 жыл бұрын
I just now got the idea (when he said no more self-promo) that there should be a booktuber with a channel or at least a segment devoted solely to unknown, unconnected self-published writers. Searching the haystack for that one gem of a needle, if you will, and giving criticism as you go. It'd be interesting. It would need to be someone who knows a fair bit about literature, and who has the balls to tell people things like "your prose stinks, no one would voluntarily read past the first sentence" and "okay, I'm on page three, and the prose is beautiful, but I'm bored out of my head because you've given me nothing to care about" and so on. Just start reading, stop as soon as you identify the first reason this book isn't passing muster and tell us about it. Maybe start each segment with a pile of books that were discarded right away, and then do a couple which managed to last for a couple chapters, and finish the segment with one that got read in its entirety, and a review of that one.

Chock full of Ye Olde Fantasy Themes, Tropes, and Vibes, non-stop swashbuckling adventure, and some of the more nicely-handled and fully-formed world-building I've had the pleasure to enjoy, all narrated by a snarky, morally gray yet refreshingly self-aware and chill main character that I would 100% pull out all the "you're cool, can we hang out" benign-but-insistent stalker stops if I met in IRL. By the end of the first few chapter I was well and truly hooked for the full series long haul. Perdido Street Station is also one of my all time faves. So weird, yet so richly layered and compelling.
