The Heightenings she started experiencing were what made me okay with her not becoming a Radiant (I was actually disappointed from the start of the book because once I saw the focus that was put on her disability, I just knew there was no way any author would let that character become something where they'd magically get healed. That would be like a kick in the face to real disabled people). But the Dawnshard now allows her to be powerful, which means she gets to stay around as a significant character :) Which is all we really want.
@Mister3Pac2 жыл бұрын
But he did that…with Lopen..
@reecenaidu60202 жыл бұрын
@@Mister3Pac The approach matters. Lopen always played off his disability as if it didn't affect him. This tells the reader that we're not going to have a serious disability when it comes to Lopen. This kind of character can be healed in an unrealistic way without it being a cop out. Rysn, who was depressed because of her disability... that's way too real. It needs to be handled more carefully. That needs a solution where she doesn't unrealistically get the disability lifted, but learns to live despite the disability instead, which is what real people with disabilities have to do. Sanderson knows this and handled it well

I have 3 points and a theory/question! 1)So we know the Dawnshard is 4 primal commands. And that each of these Dawnshard encompasses 4 separate pieces. So the command “Change”, would encompass the trait of the 4 shards which closely tie to Change. 2) we’ve seen, and what you mention, The effects of the Dawnshard on Rysn is very similar to the effects of breath on Nalthis. She sees more vivid colors, hears voices more musically, and tastes food better. 3) We were told that the Dawnshard follows intent and command, which is literally what Breath uses in focusing magic. Do these points determine that Breath is a more potent magical ability? Is Breath a less evolved version of magic? Do the 4 shards which make up “Change” allow easier use, or simpler use of abilities? I’m just so excited to see where Brandon goes with these, what the 3 other Primal commands are, and which shards are part of which Primal commands.

First she sketches sailors climbing out of the water and is certain that one of them is Yalb, despite being too small to see defining features. She dismisses this as her mind worrying about the sailors whom she had just shipwrecked. But then she draws what is clearly Ash destroying a bust of herself, revealing that these unguided drawings have some sort of supernatural ability.

Possible minor spoilers....... BranSan has confirmed that Rysn sees colors more vividly & tastes things differently like heightened characters in Warbreaker because of the intense amount of investiture the Dawnshard gives her. Warbreaker characters with several 100 breaths are in the same boat and we shouldn’t make any more connection with the books other than that. He also confirmed that investiture from allomancy and Stormlight are not nearly as intense and that’s why there’s no reference to color or taste in your ordinary Mistborn or Radiant. I was disappointed when I read that because I so want there to be deeper connections between these books and worlds. IMHO BranSan is still at the point where he’s telling people that the connections are loose and you don’t need to read Warbreaker or Mistborn to enjoy SA. I truly hope this changes on the back 5. Great vids, btw.
@mrothk014 жыл бұрын
So the heightenings can come from different sources of investiture? I mean it seems like the same thing, even talking about a "command". Awakening needs commands in order to work and I figured this was similar, but the dawnshard itself is access to a special command not normally accessible just by Breath heightening. What it does I do not know but he may have left some clues in the epilogue of DS. The command warms within her when she talks about Chord's shardplate for example. Also a single word in italics 2 or 3 pages before that seemed out of place, she felt "comforted". But comforted was in italics. That last one is probably my tin foil hat. I'm just trying to speculate on what this special command does.
@carlotruppi33144 жыл бұрын
@@mrothk01 - according to the WOB it would seem to be the case. Investiture effects of both heightening and Dawnshard have color and taste as a byproduct. Obviously there are going to be other effects from Dawnshards that we just don’t know. All Brandon said was that they aren’t the same or connected to Endowment in any way. I look at it sort of like lashings in SA and allomantic push/pull in Mistborn. Both allow the user to “fly” but they are not directly related. As for your other points, I also was wondering about the “comforted” bit. Great name, btw.

I'm confused if the dawnshards are commands that Rysn now possesses, or if she just has one of many? If it's one of many, it seems like her dawnshard has given her Breath. It implies that each Dawnshard would give a person access to one of Brandon's magic systems. Am I reading this right, or am I looking at this all wrong?
@LostinDiscovery4 жыл бұрын
I think that distinction is hard to make. From what I can tell she has access to one extremely potent Command but doesn't have the capabilities to put it into practice. It seems like a symptom of that is achieving at least the Third Heightening from Warbreaker (I'd have to look back and check out what each Heightening gives you so this number might be wrong). If each Dawnshard gave access to a different aspect of Cosmere magic that would be very cool, lots to think about!
@kyeemond41084 жыл бұрын
I’m pretty sure Rysn only has one Dawnshard. Was it the command to “remake”? Something like that. As for the heightenings that Rysn gets access to, I bet that’s just a consequence of the amount of Investiture she (probably) has in her now that she has a Dawnshard. As far as I can tell, Breaths are the only magic system that let you *hold* investiture (other than Stormlight, and even there, don’t the radiants mention how Stormlight makes the world seem more vibrant?). My thoughts are that holding any kind of investiture gives you heightenings, but most magic systems (like Aon Dor, allomancy, Aviar, etc...) don’t give you investiture, they just let you use ambient investiture. Since it seems like Dawnshards are likely made of investiture, the Dawnshard Rysn holds probably gives her some heightenings.

how do you make sure a fused does not keep returning? you bind its soul with a dawnshard... hollyshit....
@andrewvakoc23063 жыл бұрын
So at this point there could be three different ways to kill, or dispose the fused trap them like spren, anti void light perhaps using a dawnshard. And thinking about it I feel like a bondsmith could server there ties to Odium

I think Chiri will deffo be a dragon because wit confirms the existence of dragons in Rhythm of War

Pretty sure Wit says that there's only one dragon on Roshar, and that she's "shy". And I'm also pretty sure that Brandon has said that this is Cultivation

It's been over a year since I read Oathbringer and I simply don't any recollection of this Risen character

I've made a video summarising her whole story from WoK to Oathbringer, you'll probably find that helpful!

@@LostinDiscovery I'll check it out. I've been racking my brain trying to remember this character because I read and loved all every book with the exception being Dawnshard and Rythm of War.

She has had one interlude per book so far so she is one of the most prominent interlude characters...

@@adoniscreed4031 I have to re reread the books. It's been a couple of years now and there is a LOT of material there to remember.

Okay so hear me out...they said she couldn’t bond a spent...they said nothing of a seon. Which BS has mentioned could provide interesting affects if a bonded pair traveled to Roshar.

If I’m not mistaken, when Shallan washed ashore from her vanished ship, she came upon her trunk with a note from Yalb which made it clear he had survived. I always was waiting for him to make another appearance in the story after that.

No note from Yalb with the chest. Don't know where you got that...

Woah woah woah! You have to either censor or pick a new thumbnail! You can’t have someone all out and about showing off their safe hand like that!

This book was extremely boring. This was very surprising to me because the first two books in this series are both in my top 10 favorite books of my entire life. For whatever reason, the author (I'm not sure it was really Sanderson and I really hope not) picked the most uninspiring characters of the entire Stormlight Archives cast and created a giant banter session. I literally had to speed read the large portions of this story just to get to the parts that actually advance the plot. The book reads like an 11 year old girls take on Inclusion and Unconscious Bias, where the foreigners and women and handicapped people all think and talk about their feeling with each other ad nauseum. It was literally terrible and reeks of woke virtue signaling. I think the author wants a TV series. I only read this because events from this story were alluded too immediately in the 4th book. If the 4th book is ANYTHING like this, I'm completely done with this series and this author. I've already come to terms with the fact that Martin won't ever finish ASOIAF, doing without Sanderson will be a walk in the park compared to that.

You feelin vomiting to the wrong crowd. Accept its like an anime and there's gonna be some filler. least nice development in mosts eyes.
