The Revell 70 Plymouth Roadrunner Build Update #1 Prep for rust
I’ve spent about a week working on getting the Roadrunner ready for paint.
I dented the body a bit, shot it with a shotgun, and removed the battery.
The radiator is gone as well as the radio. There is some kind of animal taking up residents in the front seat. The engine is gone, so the drive shaft is going to be in the back seat.
This weekend I hope to get it in rust and ready for assembly.

Your mind must work overtime with all the good ideas you come up with. That's an ingenious idea for a 'junker' seat. I've never thought of that & I know I've never seen before either, so that'll be great to see. Actually, I can see you having more fun with the 'rust bucket' than the 'straight' one!! It's gonna be cool Mark. I've never seen anyone do this kind of rusting and damage before. I'm sure it's out there by others but never really interested me. Maybe I'll do this some day, I've got some parts and a body of a '63 Impala. You should get rid of a few head lights. Maybe take the grill out. It'll be interesting for me for sure. Thanks. It's going to be a lot of fun. If you have some extra parts laying around give it a try. I plan on having the two headlights missing on the drivers side with the plugs hanging out of holes I drill in the back of the bumper. I want to keep the grill in place to hide what's missing on the front wall. But once it's all the way weathered I think it'll be good.

I'm digging it, love the detail ideas. Hey you about tripped me out, I snagged a special 3 full muscle car kits in one box from amt for incredible coin, there's a road runner in it, and a Fairlane in it, just thought that was funny you just did the Fairlane and now a road runner. 👍

Les, I have used the salt technique before, but I've never done the white glue before, so I want to give it a try. It's like the hairspray technique, I've never used that before either. The crew knows what they are in for. They are having a hard time with it but are going to do their best.

How did you dent the doors? What about rusty holes, like over wheel wells

I was very careful and used a lighter and the end of my round mandrel. I'd heat it up with the lighter and then push the mandrel into it to make the dent. I also put some deep scratches into it with a file. I don't want to have rust through on the panels because I want it to look like it could be a back yard find, or the end of the road, depending on how you look at it.
