That moment when you realize you're deep in the middle of nowhere with a complete psychopath.
@bobholly3843 Жыл бұрын
A psychopath that's sharing food and looking to survive, who has also saved my life twice by this point in the movie. While nobody likes what he did to Hawk & Glass, he was technically right. The Arikira did fight their camp and they all would have been killed if they just sat there with Glass. He's not necessarily a psychopath, he is just a guy who is wants to save his own skin and doesn't care about any formality or honor in order to do it. As long as you aren't presenting a danger to him, he's pretty helpful, albeit a little awkward

Honestly, Hardy betrays his English background with how virtuosic his pronunciation is and how efficient he is with his tongue, like hard he hits the O's like in "know". A better, more accurate portrayal would have more jaw movement, more shoulder movement, more small movements that show the real panic and fear that drives this character. Maybe the direction had more to do with it than Hardy's choices, but the scene when Bridger confronts Hardy is telling in how awful Hardy's accent is as far as historical accuracy.

You can be all about survival and do whatever it takes without greed or being in other ways a disgusting pig. Don't excuse it. Don't veil it. You see your own ugliness within this man, and all you really wanted to do was to flatter yourself without letting yourself know. People love to play such games on this world. It is a stupid game. And I am here to end it once and for all. That said, "God is a squirrel" is not entirely wrong. But more the point it is God playing hide and seek with herself.

Okay. How in the bloody fuck did this man not get an Oscar for this portrayal and yet Leo did. Nothing against Leo but he’s not even close to this level of acting. Leo is your box standard handsome leading man type of actor. He can command the screen and your attention due to his charisma and looks. But ultimately he never really fades into his roles. There’s always some part of you that’s aware that the protagonist is just Leo with an accent. Tom Hardy on the other hand just disappeared into this role. It’s not just a case of his accent and deeper voice or even the costume. It’s the fact that he just becomes this character. The look in his eyes, his mannerisms, his handling of his weapon, his personality, the look in his eyes as he speaks and the body language are so alien to what the man normally acts like that I still have a hard time believing that this is the same guy who played Bane. That is acting at its pinnacle on par with Joaquin Phoenix in Joker, or Jeff Bridges in True Grit. This man is critically underrated and it’s proof that Hollywood, even when it was still good, favored politics over acting skill.

For all the comments saying he’s just crazy, you don’t understand what Fitzgerald is saying. "God is a squirrel. And I shot and ate that son of a bitch," he's expressing his cynical, survivalist philosophy. This line reflects Fitzgerald's belief that in the harsh and unforgiving wilderness, traditional notions of God and morality are irrelevant. Instead, survival is paramount, and he sees the natural world and its creatures as the ultimate reality and authority. By saying he shot and ate God, he implies that he has rejected any higher moral or spiritual authority in favor of his own primal need to survive.

Just a theory, but couldn't the "son of a bitch" that Fitzgerald refers to here actually be his father? The line, "'I found god', he used to say." implies that his father has already died, and Fitzgerald's version of the story always strikes me as a strange one. If I were in his place, I would have interprated his father's words as a sign of grattitude, that he thinks the god had given him a squirrel. What makes Fitzgerald a horrifying, psychopathic villain is his lack of sympathy, which explains why he would mistake his father's behavior as being delirious. The possibility that he devoured his father is even more fascinating, because of the myth of Wendigo, which originates from the folklore of the Algonquin people, tribes of native Americans from Northern U.S. and Canada. A Wendigo is a cannibalistic creature that was once human, and is believed to have become a monster because of the practice of cannibalism. It is said that Wendigos symbolise famine, and selfishness, the exact situation where Fitzgerald and his father were placed, and the exact type of person he is: a man who would do anything for survival, even if that means killing his allies. Everytime I watch this clip and look into his void, uncanny-looking eyes when he delivers the line, I cant help thinking about this scary possibility.
