So glad to have The Review Crew return! Love this program. I must tip my hat to Karen for mentioning Jesus Lizard. Great band and a welcome surprise to have a new album. Likely the first time this band has been spotlighted on SoT! Thanks to all. Jamie, what a great job!

Great show lady and gents. I also remember hearing about Jesus Lizard back in the 90’s, but never heard an album or song. I’ll give this one a listen. Sounds like it could be up my alley.

Great to see the Magick Potion album discussed again! It's one of my Top Ten favorite albums of 2024. Every SoT viewer NEEDS to hear this record!

I need to give it another chance. I listened once cause it should be right up my alley, but it didn’t move me for some reason. Don’t know if I wasn’t in the right frame of mind or what.
@christophercoles44012 күн бұрын
@iceclimbers22 There were a couple of albums this past year that I felt the same way about, and I grew to like them. Sometimes it's your frame of mind, but some albums are just growers.

I can't really review anything new right now, but are a handful of albums I got to hear and enjoy within the last couple of weeks of the year. There are two that Pete mentioned on here that I decided to check out and ended up digging: Rifflord and Magick Potion. I also finally heard Brat from Charlie XCX, What Now from Brittany Howard, and Happiness Bastards from The Black Crowes. All great stuff!

I agree. With karen and grant there is more great music being created by young musicians than ever from all over the world, the delivery system of music has changed. There are great bands on KZbin that we can listen to for free., in avery genre of music. They would be thrilled just to have people listen and drop a like on their video.these are young guys that are playing the music that they love. That we love. I'm quoting Pete pardo.

Welcome back for season 2 and Happy New year!!! 1000mods, a great album and the guys are from my neighbouring town. They have their own studio and great following here in Greece. Magic Potion is a must have. Have to listen to Echoverse, and Echolyn.

I saw Mountain on that UK tour in 2005. The inclusion of too many Cream songs distracted from it being a great show, but I got to meet Leslie and Corky after the show. As a Frehley fan I wanted a chat with Richie but he didn't come out. Jesus Lizard are in the UK this week. I tried to get tickets to the show local to me but it's been sold out for quite a while.

Speaking of Krokus...My absolute favorite Krokus album is Heart Attack from 1988. Highly underrated and did absolutely nothing commercially. They were playin' for the MCA, so there you go. I think it is their last album with most of their classic line-up. I love it!

The Jesus Lizard is a great pick from Karen. A long-time fave band of mine. They're one of the best 'units' of all-time. I'm talking Led Zep level of rhythm section, frontman, genius guitarist and so on. Not as...palatable, perhaps, but once you're in, you're in. Goat and Liar are the real classics, but this new one is amazing too.

I love that Karen featured The Jesus Lizard on this channel. Honestly most SoT followers would not like them, but I love 'em, saw them live a dozen times from '90 to '94, and a couple reunion shows since. I'd describe them as post-hardcore noise with a killer rhythm section and arty post-punk guitar influenced by Rowland S. Howard (The Birthday Party, Crime & the City Solution, These Immortal Souls). Some fans of Faith No More/Fantomas might possibly be open to them, but for others they're primarily a live experience. I'd say by far Goat (1991) is the place to start. Here's my blurb: Normally I would never expect a noise rock band who’s reputation was based on a slavering feral energy, to return to their original glory 26 years after their last album. Iggy Pop could pull it off live, but the two 21st century Stooges albums were disappointingly ordinary garage rock. Nick Cave has too much damn sense, or perhaps a desire to preserve his dignity, to ever consider attempting revisiting The Birthday Party again. And yet, I was hopeful, based on a couple of their live reunions I witnessed over the past decade. And sure enough, Rack kicks the living shit out of the band’s two Capital albums from the late 90s, and serves as a proper follow-up to Down (1994). More often than not the pace is slow and menacing, which the band always used as a tension-and-release technique. While they don’t match the brutal brilliance of Goat (1991) and Liar (1992), I’d like to think Steve Albini is smiling, from hell (where he knows everyone), and nodding his approval. Magick Potion was bubbling under in my list. I was impressed by the sonics, but on the other hand, bands like Radio Moscow and Smokey Mirror have done this kind of thing quite well before. Magick Potion, formerly known as Head, really nail the sonics like no one else though. I'll feature a band from Austin that doesn't get enough attention, even though it's something a TON of SoT folks would love: Transit Method - Othervoid (Brutal Panda) From the cover art you’d think the fifth album from Austin’s Transit Method was a progressive death metal album. The fact that they actually have roots in both grunge and prog (think Skin Yard, Love Battery, The Fluid and mid-period Die Kreuzen mixed with the proggy alt rock of locals …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead) appeals to me a lot because while I like 70s prog, I just can’t get past the slick production of most modern prog and prog metal. But bands that rough it up with a bit of greasy garage punk, and grunge, like The Fierce & the Dead, Crown Lands and Mondo Drag, I’m all in. While the production has gotten incrementally cleaner and more accomplished on The Madness (2020) and this one, the prog metal retains just enough grungy flavor to keep them from sounding like hundreds of other stoner metal/heavy psych bands lumbering about the rock landscape. Here's a few of my recent discoveries over the holidaze: Plantoid - Terrapath (Bella Union) Psych Prog, Prog, Jazz-Rock, Space Rock from the UK. On Bandcamp. Iotunn - Kinship (Metal Blade) Danish Prog Metal, Death Metal and even some Power Metal. RIYL the recent Opeth. Sean Ono Lennon - Asterisms (Tzadik) Instrumental Psych, Jazz Fusion and Psych Prog with a killer band for John Zorn's label. MesaVerde - All is Well (Apollon) Norwegian Prog and Art Rock.

@ericporter344 Most certainly am. Meant to say, I think a strange lil' intervention by serendipity took place. Yesterday, for no particular reason, I thought I'd check up on the splendid Geoffrey Richardson, who amongst other things, has been the strings man with Caravan for many a year. Quite a character, on and off stage. Now he is much more a viola player, so I Iistened to some very enjoyable solo stuff, only for your violin recommendation to turn up the following day. It's probably just an attempt to level out the flute recommendations from Chris on the last ITPS round up... 😄

Krokus fan here as well Jaime. I have to disagree with you about one point. Krokus is not glam metal at all. They started in the mid 70’s and you can say their album The Blitz is approaching the sound of glam, but it’s just a stray into the commercial side trying to get radio play.
