I've said this before, ...the reason why folks don't know about Bridgeman is that he wasn't a superstar. He was a great 6th man, and media during his playing days acknowledged what he did, but not how they tend to do it in today's game. Vinnie Johnson is more well-known by fans because of his Pistons' success. Lot more to it than that. It was an almost certainty that some hedge funds in addition to momentum funds were _buying_ gamestop shares at the time. It is a hyper-competitive business. Wiping out or destroying a competitor's track record, and making a ton of money in the process, is too good to resist. PS I doubt MJ could or would jump in to rescue a hedge fund. (Need a lot more money than that.) Likely was just the subjective nature of net worth estimates that they can fluctuate a lot.

And 33 million of MJ’s 90 came in his last season with the Bulls, so he was really underpaid even by 80’s-90’s standards.
@ice-iu3vv3 жыл бұрын
63 of the 90 in the last 2 years. (30+33). he wasnt so underpaid as it was a backloaded contract. sure it was low when he made just 2-3 million in 95 and 96. but the contract was contextually fair for the time to have him due to make 63 mil in 2 years. 1990s years. and its still more salary than any other athlete has been paid in a 2 year span. still a record while salaries have exploded by a factor of almost 10 since then.
@martianmurray3 жыл бұрын
@@ice-iu3vv didn’t realize it was a 2 year but his previous contract was still low considering he’d been a 30+ per game scorer since the 80’s with a 3peat under his belt. It was a record for a long time but I think even Simmons is making that now, assuming he suits up for somebody by the start of the season.
@MrPhilbautista3 жыл бұрын
@@ice-iu3vv There was nothing fair about MJ’s contracts prior to the last few years. He was so underpaid he was being paid less than several team mates, like Toni Kukoc, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman, despite being the best player on the team. This is probably why the Bulls were able to surround him with talent to compliment his abilities, but it’s also a big reason for the bad blood between MJ and management.
@ice-iu3vv3 жыл бұрын
@@MrPhilbautista so we need to review what backloaded means. its 1 contract, not plural, unfair contracts. michael set up his long term contract with his agent and attorney and the bulls obliged him. it called for him to make most of his money in the last 2 years. jordan wanted it this way for 2 reasons. to defer the high income tax hit, and to allow the bulls salary cap room to put the second dynasty together. keep in mind reinsdorf paid him his basketball salary for 2 years while michael was playing baseball in the white sox system. these players (kukoc, pippen, and rodman) were NOT making more than michael in terms of the total contract, but they made more in specific seasons. again, michael set up his own deal, intentionally. no it isnt the source of any bad blood. michael's beef with management springs from them letting go of phil jackson, refusing to keep the second 3-peat team together, and krausse taking too much credit for the teams success. nothing fair ? so, you jumped to the conclusion that the most shrewd basketball business mind of them all was just bullied and ripped off, apparently against his will ? no that doesnt sound like michael jordan at all.

2:40 - What's the "messed up and sad" part? Are you saying it's sad that he sold his shares in 2000, but if he had waited until 2001 the insurance payout would've netted him a huge profit, just as it did the building's primary owner, Larry Silverstein? Anybody remember on Sept 10th 2001 Donald Rumsfield and the Pentagon announced that it had "lost track" and could not account for over 4.3 TRILLION dollars!?! Now that's sad...

Junior Bridgeman isn't a billionaire LeBron James is. LeBron has spent 40 million in college scholarships alone.

On the "I Am Athlete" show Dwyane Wade said he had $100 million. I guess he was being modest.
@ariefraiser1403 жыл бұрын
Not modest at all. He didn't say he was worth $100 million. I have $10,000 in the bank but with the equity in my home and some stocks I am worth a lot more than that.

There's one in Harlem off 125th Street in Manhattan. I used to pre pandemic go there for opening night 🌙 of Marvel Movies, and many of my friends went to see Black Panther there, so much so that it was sold out and I had to go see Black Panther on 14th Street Union Square!

There is red shirt Michigan state player. Little 6 foot guard that played with Allen Anderson. He became ceo of company he created. Almost 10 years after he sold that company for 2.2 billions. However, he never played professional basketball.

The pandemic was a billionaires bonanza , Micheal should have gone $2.2 bil to maybe 2.6. I mean Kanye West and Rhianna increased their wealth by 500 million since 2020. So you can say Micheal actually lost a billion dollars.

I have a question, Hakeem sold his shares in the World Trade Center 2 years before 9-11..was that good or bad? why?

David Robinson had to serve at that point in time. Although he didn't serve his entire time he did reserve duty so he could play BB. It wasn't voluntary that he served. It was negotiated that his time was reduced.

It was voluntary that he entered the Air Force.

When i was a kid for some reason my favorite basketball player was David Robinson, then MJ. Finding out those thing's about David Robinson 15yrs or so later (thanks to @A.M. Hoops) makes me realize, i had probably intuitively saw how good of a person he is. Any ways that's my happy story about NBA! Go the Spurs haha.
