I don't think he's a character created by ricky and steve but they definitely do recycle old material and make out as if it's the first time they've heard it. That old cutting the head off and walking was from their xfm show yet karls said it again here and ricky still laughs and questions it as if it's the first time he's said it

I only just realised why I was so surprised to find out that Karl is 6'1" tall (which I looked up after seeing some of his scenes from Derek): He looks shorter than even Ricky when sitting down. I might possibly be an idiot for never putting this together before, but whenever I'd seen a video with the three of them together, they were sitting down. Well, and there are some promo photos where either Karl must be crouching a bit or Ricky standing on an apple box (or some Photoshop magic was done).
