He definitely knows when he's making jokes, you can see the shift in his eye. He knows what the outcome will be, his face changes. It's subtle, but he is silent for a second, then he gets a mildly cocky expression and then he says his one liner. He knows for sure. Sometimes he's repeated the same jokes, and they don't always get the same reaction. I've heard him say the same one liners about 4 times now in different scenarios. Sometimes he can deliver them in a funny way, sometimes not. So he's a bit hit and miss.
