I’d rather have 4 guys at 80% of Soto’s ability at $175M each. Baseball is not a one guy takes over sport. I like Soto, but he’s average at defense and not worth 4 players.
@laartwork20 күн бұрын
51 mil a year.. divided by 4 players is 12.75 mil each. Soto has a career OPS+ of 160 so 80% is 128 ... so Teoscar Hernandez range. Name the 4 players with 128 OPS who will take 12.75 a year. If you want to include pitchers, defensive wizards we can change it to fWAR... still the same... you may get two guys but not with 5-6 years peak still in them

@@laartworkthe 15 year part is not part of the equation as it is is an outlier. Take the $769M and divide it by four, and distribute as appropriate (these don’t have to be the same year amounts either). The point is that four guys are better than one in baseball.

The Yankees lineup was mediocre this season, specially during the postseason. Only 2 players hitting at a productive pace, Soto and number 4 in lineup. Why would any ambitious player want to stay there? He was pulling Judge's ass from October onwards, still the dude would be the face of the franchise. What had NYY to offer him? A lesser contract, an aging/depleted roster, zero promises of acquiring new pieces. Yeah, it was only the money, whatever. Maybe the situation involving his family had a racial/class undertone, some people take that type of shit badly. Good luck staying in denial, your leader is happily smiling after losing and crapping his pants on the box and the outfield. Your rising star at SS doesn't have the defensive or offensive talent you're hoping for. The manager will not move anything about the team even if all falls down. I won't be waiting for the Yanks to be back in the WS anytime soon. But, let's see.

For the most part, it's a free market especially when compared to the NFL and other sports when it comes to player equity and ownership/the League rules. HOWEVER, the security guard incident while likely true and probably unintentional, led Juan to ask for a private suite to be included at CitiField which he reported got included in the deal. It was not about money in the end but getting something no Yankee ever got since even Jeter and Judge paid/pays for their suite, reportedly. Sure the Mets trajectory was impressive last year and its entirely possible if they "Mets" NYM might have shocked the baseball world by winning it all; am sure Juan calculates (or agent Boris) that as well.... but how "suite" it is to get something that NYY could NOT bestow.
