I do not recommend that hourly workers schedule unpaid time for a meeting during off hours to notify their employer of resignation. That is too much to expect of an employee, despite the connected or familial nature of this job. Notifying your employer of resignation is a work task you can do during work hours. Be sure to provide the amount of notice listed in your written contract, or 2 weeks notice at a minimum if a notice period isn't listed in your contract. I recommend speaking with the parent while the child is napping or while the child is occupied with another parent, screen time, etc. Hopefully, you have a scheduled time at least once a week where you and the parent check in and chat before you leave for the week. That may be your most ideal time for notice. Prepare a written, printed notice letter to give your employer and follow it up same-day with an email as your electronic record of giving notice. If the nature of the job never allows for a quiet 10 minutes to speak with the parent, email the parent your notice including a genuine thank you for the opportunity. Let them know you are available for a follow-up conversation at their convenience, if they prefer.
