Even 20 years ago, The Peter Jackson trilogy was able to portray strong female characters in well done and lore friendly way, without having to remind us at every stage that they are better than men. Eowyn killed the Witch King who was leading Sauron’s armies, Galadriel was a badass with foresight, and her gifts to the fellowship were vital for Frodo to succeed. Even Arwen was the one who saves Frodo from the nine. It didn’t happen in the book, but the way it was incorporated into the movie was believable and in the spirit of Tolkien. Everybody in the trilogy was doing their part in order to conquer the darkness. Galadriel does not need to be acting as a man and the general on the vengeance mission to be a great, awe inspiring character

I'm a moderately well read fantasy reader. What is crazy to me is that there are SO many stories out there with women, people of color, wildly diverse casts, women warriors, everything "they" claim to want. Most of these stories are written by women and in a lot of cases women of color. But instead they pump millions into a dead white guy's estate while pretending that these types of stories they want don't already exist. They do and they're solid stories, they just don't carry the right name, I guess. When there's a wide array of such stories available and they still choose to pick a world they see as "flawed" so they can "fix" it, it really telegraphs the intent (IMO). It doesn't directly effect me if they scramble Tolkien's world and make a wildly expensive flop, I guess I'd just really like to see fantasy adaptations succeed because I think it's good for the genre in a lot of ways.

Especially, if you think about the main difference is that the way Men act to and near Galadriel in the Rings of Power is unhonorable and cowardly. They run from evil, try to hide from it and do not show any resolve. Mainly. showing MEN as "weak" to boost WOMEN is absolutely different to how men and women were portrayed in LOTR Movies. They shined _together_. There was no need to belittle the one to make other seem bigger.

My favorite scene is where Sauron said to Elrond "I have an army." Elrond replied "we have a Guyladriel." Then Guyladriel jumped in, picked Sauron up with 1 hand, and slammed him on the ground repeatedly. Sauron then slipped out and jumped out of the window. Elrond looked at the blood streak left by Sauron and said "If it bleeds, we can kill it." Then Elrond activated the jetpack on his power armor and followed Sauron out of the window. Guyladriel beat her own chest like kingkong and roared.

I mean the idea of Galadriel being a commander serving under a king is ludicrous from both lore and feminist perspectives. On the lore side, it literally goes against her character motivations. In Unfinished Tales it says that she desires to rule her own lands. Also she founds the kingdom of Eregion in 2nd age. As for the feminist angle, how does demoting her from ruler and making her serve under a king, empower women? Galadriel is so powerful in the books that she wouldn’t waste time swinging a sword, any brute could do that and she’s got ruling to do.

And Amazon, with hundreds and hundreds of people attached to Rings of Power, couldn't begin to pull off something even close. For a billion dollars! Which really underscores Tolkien's talent. And magic making gifts. Most of us who have loved the books and the Jackson trilogy and are familiar with Tolkien lore could have cast it better. Likely, written it better. Tolkien’s writing and Peter Jackson’s filming displayed all the most wonderful characteristics about fantasy. It had a sense of wonder. Tolkien had a high view of God and man. The industry has neither. And their attitudes show it, in the way they treat their material, the fans, and the characters.

I would argue that Tolkien didn't really view his current generation or newer generations of man with high regard but rather the older generations; and especially industrialisation and how it had affected life around it. We only need to look to his writings where one of the core themes is that each passing age is a lesser of the previous one; a mere echo what once had been (eg. Aragorn II and Arwen is echo of Beren and Lúthien) with wonder and miracles slowly fading away as the world of Arda slowly moves towards Dagor Dagorath and the Second Music of the Ainur. As for industrialisation we only need to look at how Saruman's work is portrayed as he was only real figure that worked though sciences and technology (as primitive as they might have been) while lifestyle of hobbits was exalted.

I remember getting tears in my eyes when Gandalf was facing down the Witch King, and all of a sudden horns blared, the Rohirrim arrived. I looked up at my dad and said with eyes full of tears “they are gonna save them”. Then the shot with the sun behind their host, my eyes widened, mouth dropped, heart racing. Something I will never forget witnessing for the first time. I wasn’t but 8 years old. Anyhow, this show will be forgotten very soon. Hopefully all of you guys stop giving this show air time. This show has some glaring plot holes, the main ones I can think of being: - Elrond and Galadriel's friendship is strange, especially considering Galadriel has a husband and Elrond would eventually marry Celebrian, Galadriel's daughter. - I would expect there to be some animosity between Celebrimbor and Elrond considering Celebrimbor's uncles where responsible for the third kinslaying. - Gil Galad being older than Galadriel despite her being his great aunt. Furthermore, this show failed to provide a good prologue like Jackson's LOTR did, it would have been better if it explained the making of the Silmarils, Morgoth stealing them, the oath of Feanor, and the War of Wrath. Instead, the start of the first episode is an incoherent mess that non-Tolkien fans will struggle to understand. Despite all of this I did enjoy the visuals which the VFX team probably slaved away at in an Amazon sweatshop.

Aragorn also has a pretty good reason to be upset with Frodo. From his perspective it looks like Frodo just put the ring on to get away from an awkward scene, and so he grabs him and manhandles him and says basically "wtf are you doing, little person" and then Sam bursts in and Aragorn calms down, because he realizes he kind of looks like an enemy to them. I realized this when I saw that Galadriel climbs with a knife, like modern climbers. This is stupid and Tolkien could not have written something like this, because mountaineering, as we know it, began to develop and gain popularity in the 70s, in the last years of the author's life. In addition, in the book, the characters used ropes for climbing, moreover, ropes of elven work. This is not just a random fact, it is an important element of history, namely, that the elves are the source of wisdom and ancient knowledge. Even in the Peter Jackson movies we heard "This item is made by elves". But the authors sacrificed this for the sake of stupid action in the style of "Prince of Persia". And I'm not saying this game is bad, I'm saying it's a different kind of fantasy.

If you love the story you will be offended by changes imposed to include a message. If you love the message, then you will hate those who reject the message, "simply" because it distorts and destroys the story. This Tolkien quote seems incredibly appropriate: "And it seemed at last that there were two musics progressing at one time before the seat of Ilúvatar, and they were utterly at variance. The one was deep and wide and beautiful, but slow and blended with an immeasurable sorrow, from which its beauty chiefly came. The other had now achieved a unity of its own; but it was loud, and vain, and endlessly repeated; and it had little harmony, but rather a clamorous unison as of many trumpets braying upon a few notes. And it essayed to drown the other music by the violence of its voice, but it seemed that its most triumphant notes were taken by the other and woven into its own solemn pattern."

Galadriel literally RKO's the snow troll because it was upset by being disturbed from it's peaceful slumber 1000's of miles deep in arctic mountains where no being ever even knew of its existence. The 7 male elf warriors that were narrated to be in her war search party all ran away at first sight of the beast, but fortunately they were certainly not needed as this was gravy work for Galadriel which you see she absolutely relishes after plunging her dagger into the top center of the beasts head concluding a 17 second shero battle scene depicting the kind of terror filled tribulations Galadriel must guide her war party through. I haven't checked but I heard there is 9 elfs shown in a portion of this scene after being narrated as having a party of 7.

It all began long, long time ago with the forging of the great films. Threads were given by Tolkien, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Three movies were granted to Jackson, great miner, craftsman, and shaper of the mountain of lore. And nine, nine hours were gifted to the race of men, who above all else, desired quality. But they were all of them deceived, for another show was made. In the land of Amazon, in the fires of Mount Prime, the Dark Lord Bezos forged in secret a master flop. And into this show he poured his money, his greed and his will to dominate all film. One show to ruin them all. For into darkness fell Tolkien's star, in Amazon, where no bathrooms are.
