I got to see Aliens in the theater at 10 years old and it blew my hair back. I hadn't seen the first one, but the way the first act unfolds I didn't have to appreciate the movie. As a dad now it means even more because the theme is technically motherhood, but as a dad I can relate to doing anything for your kid.

I love love LOVE Alien, and I really like aliens. And the rest are fine and fun. But alien and aliens are such different films. The suspense of that one super powerful unknown alien creates the suspense that is key to it being a horror. Aliens having named the creature and being killed in mass (which makes total sense seeing as how long the time jump is). But all in all it loses a lot of the horror, at least to me

I just saw the Alien Romulus trailer when I was at the movies this past weekend. The trailer just showed a new crew dealing with face suckers and chest burster and I just thought to myself what Tarantino said about sequels like Omen 2 “We the audience already know what’s going to happened the surprise is already gone” I hope the movie doesn’t suck but just seeing that trailer I’m like “great another alien movie where they overdo the chest Burster scene but with no suspense” I think they’re just milking this franchise now

It’s always near impossible to recreate the shock of the original. BUT with that said hopefully they can come up with something new and unique to shock us.

Nice analysis. Alien & Aliens are really untouchables movies because of how great they are. Alien 3 took some bad decisions storywise and is obviously the weaker of the 3 but has some good ideas as well. Imo the real downfall for the series started lightly with Alien: Resurrection and REALLY took a nose dise with Prometheus & Alien: Covenant came around.

Honestly, I enjoy every movie in the franchise to a certain extent. However I agree, the back half of the franchise has some weird ass story and creative choices.
@RoaryUK2 ай бұрын
Prometheus is a flawed movie but still very good and well worth a look just for the experience. Covenant could have been great, but suffered from studio meddling and just wasn't good at all.

Alien: It was cool. Lots of mystery around where the ship came from, why were there eggs everywhere, what happened to the space jockey. When the Alien burst out it turns into a full on slasher Aliens : Lot's of fun, really expanded on what came before, following Ripley's arc from the first film is awesome, the Alien Queen was such a good addition Alien 3 : back to a more basic setting like the first, no crazy weapons and no seasoned soldiers was a good call, killing of Newt and Hicks wasn't the worst call but not the best, Ripley throwing herself into the furnace killing herself and the Queen was a poetic ending I personally think the decline started with Alien 4 and then Ridley Scott came back and took a huge shit over everything that came before by explaining where the Aliens came from.....black goo and made by a demented android 😕😕😕
@Metal0maniac983 ай бұрын
Pretty much spot on imo. Personally, I would add that : - Alien Resurrection was really mediocre but had some good ideas here & there. - AvP 1 was fun to watch and added a lot of cool things to the Alien/Predator lore (not as much as the video games and comics though). - AvP Requiem, even though it's heavily flawed, didn't disrespect the Alien/Predator lore at all while adding some good stuff...unlike the Ridley Scott movies who took a shiet on the Alien mythos in many ways and didn't add anything good in return just because Scott wanted to fuel his stupid ego. Prometheus & Covenant are definitely when the real nose dive for the series happened to me since the only good thing that happened for the series since Prometheus was released is Alien: Isolation...and it's a video game lol.

@Metal0maniac98 it's crazy that Ridley Scott coming back to the Alien franchise is really what fucked it up lol
@Metal0maniac983 ай бұрын
@@ms.carriage6867 fr lmao. Tbh it does not surprise me since the main geniuses behind the first Alien movie were H.R. Giger, Ronald Shusett & Dan O'Bannon. When Prometheus rolled around, Ridley Scott didn't wanted to do the movie but did it anyway because he got a lot of money from the studios. And since he has a huge ego and thought he knew better than the fans, the sequels and all the external medias that came after the first movie because he filmed it, well he used that to put his personnal beliefs in the lore of the series and it's trash smh. I somewhat hope Alien: Romulus is not only good but also remove his movies from canon and put them in their own timeline.
@ms.carriage68673 ай бұрын
@@Metal0maniac98 Also wasn't Prometheus the reason Alien 5 got canned?? Ridley Scott has always been ego over ability. He has had a few well done films but the majority have been middling to poor. I'm pretty sure they were around the same time. I'm really hopeful for Romulus too. And since it's set between Alien and Aliens there will be no engineer planet, david or creator bollocks 🤞🤞🤞
@Metal0maniac983 ай бұрын
@@ms.carriage6867 Yeah we got robbed of Alien 5 by Neil Blomkamp because of Ridley Scott & Prometheus. One more reason to hate it lol. Outside of Alien, I think his only notable movies are Blade Runner & Gladiator and thats pretty much it. The rest is either really mid or really bad. Yup let's hope Romulus is as good as the trailers (unlike Prometheus who was lowkey false advertisement lmao) and we don't see any ties to Engineers or Android Jesus bs rofl. 🤞😆

Aliens is my favorite of the franchise. It's an amazing movie, but I saw it in 1986 in a theater on a family vacation to Alaska when I was 12 years old. It was the perfect age to see the movie. Alien 3 has some good things I like, but it pissed me off that Newt and Hicks were killed off. I wanted that retconned!

Alien was never about happy endings. Even Weaver didn't want Ripley's adopted family in 3 which is what Cameron would have done but thankfully was not given the chance. Get over it ffs!!

Alien 3 killed the franchise stone cold dead. Peeps can argue all they want about ‘hidden gem’, ‘cult classic’ and ‘unappreciated masterpiece’ but the fact remains that after Alien 3 the franchise was never the same and it has limped on like a lame duck ever since. I watched it in the theatres back in the day and when the film finished you could hear a pin drop as people silently left the theatre completely subdued and pissed off. Even Brian Glover was crap in it! Just think about that for a second….They managed to make Brian Glover look bad. Unpossible! Alien 3, subverting expectations before Rian Johnson was out of short pants and KK was still tasked with making the coffee and fetching the dry cleaning. The Terminator Dark Fate/Last Jedi of Alien. One of the biggest mistakes in Cinema history. A miserable, ill conceived, fart huffing, self indulgent abomination of a movie that made everything that came before it irrelevant. Awful.
