The Rise and Fall of Fast N' Loud
Subscribe for More!
Fast N Loud featured some pretty iconic motor masterminds and they looked for timeless cars and bikes from across the country to spin. The show’s stars used to find worn out cars that people no longer used and then, they would work their magic and turn it into something that they can not only sell but also get a lot of profit from it.
This was a super-interesting concept and not a lot of people were into this niche back then so it also had a lot of potential. People instantly hit it off with the show and soon enough, it became a staple for motor pros and novices alike. However, before anyone knew, Fast N Loud disappeared from the spotlight. No one understood what really happened and that’s why we’ll be discovering the rise and fall of Fast N Loud.

In my opinion what kills shows like this is first. They are scripted and they’ve been out long enough that everyone knows it. And 2. The shows tend to put way too much emphasis on the people and not enough on the projects which is what attracts car enthusiasts in the first place. Once viewers lose interest in the characters the show is over.

I really enjoyed the show the first few seasons but then it turned into the same formula each week. #1: Richard buys project car #2: Richard does donuts in the parking lot with project car before turning it over to the crew. #3: They decide to put in a huge V8 #4: OMG will they make the deadline? An argument insues. #5: Richard takes car out with sunglasses on and explains what you just saw. They once had a facebook page and asked for suggestions. I suggested that the next time they got a 60's car like a falcon or nova wagon, instead of dropping in a V8 why not drop in one of the newer four cylinders put out by the respective auto makers that make over 300 HP and keep it as stock as possible with upgrades like a vintage air AC and Detroit Steel wheels that looked stock. I personally would find that cooler than just dropping in a V8

How much research did the creator/ writer actually do for this vid? "Spinning cars?" ,didn't just get it wrong once but repeated it every time through the whole video! It's 'flipping cars' Quick Shift. Also when talking about Jordan, I got confused because they got his name right twice, the rest of the time he was referred to as "Jason" and I'm thinking, "Who the hell is this Jason character, Did I miss a whole heap of episodes?" . If you are going to make videos about 'factual' things, at least get the facts right please. And yeah, Aaron leaving was the turning point for the show and the garage I felt.
@rars0n
@rars0n Жыл бұрын
Richard was alright as a host and knew the business side pretty well, but Aaron was really what made the show work. Aaron's skill and knowledge of cars, and better yet, his impeccable taste, is what made their car builds so awesome. I never watched the show for the flipping aspect, which was often dodgy as hell anyway (it always seemed like his friend Dennis bailed him out whenever he couldn't make a decent profit on a car). The move into the larger garage hurt, mostly because it meant that Aaron was working on individual builds less. It became more about turning cars over for money than about actually spending time on cool, unique builds. It became a factory. No offense to the other talented people who worked there, but the early builds were special mainly because of all the attention and expertise that Aaron gave them. That was no longer possible with the move into the bigger garage. The restaurant was a huge mistake, and I have no idea why Richard even flirted with the idea of opening one. I'm assuming someone else talked him into it, since he clearly had no clue how to run a restaurant. I stopped watching shortly after they opened it because I didn't watch the show to see them struggle to run a restaurant. It was truly bizarre to me, and completely unwatchable.

The "spinning cars" thing got on my nerve sooooooo bad that I looked it up on the internet (yes, i know but I though it might be fun). I found this Wikipedia entry:👩‍🎓 Spinning is a South African motorsport that involves driving cars at speed in circles and performing stunts in and out of the car. It originated in Soweto in the late 1980s, and was performed as a funeral ritual in which a car was spun around to honor the deceased. It is now a recognized motorsport. 😲

Both guys were necessary, Richard and Aaron. It worked for years and I was addicted to the show. I even liked the misfits. They cracked me up and added levity. They were also necessary ingredients for a diversified friendship team. But things came down to money profits and time. So the performance had to be tweaked. But, all in all, great show. I learned a lot from it and I wish them all Godspeed in the next chapters. Yes, Aaron was awesome. And he needed Richard’s push. And Dennis’s money. Ha.

My grandfather did body work and all of the above. My dad did body work and all of the above. Restorations ,engines , race cars, you name it. But you would not work for either one if you couldn't do it from start to finish yourself. They mostly did everything that came in by themselves.
@dennycelestinohybridspecies
@dennycelestinohybridspecies Жыл бұрын
This was a really cool show, I even remember calling my dad when I first watched it like 2010, when they were at the old shop and building affordable classic custom cars/restomods, rat rods, cars Like me and dad would take a couple years to build at a price a basic working blue collar type could afford that don't have the time or the garage space to build a custom car. But then they moved into the big garage, started buying Ferraris and stuff that really started losing my interest, and when I saw them make that gas monkey bar and grill, it was just way too big for me to care about anymore. I did recently see how Richard had his own youtube channel and I figured this happened.
@rars0n
@rars0n Жыл бұрын
Yeah, moving into the big garage was the beginning of the end. Aaron was the heart of the show, and the bigger garage meant they had to bring more vehicles through the shop to maximize the space, which led to Aaron spending less time on each individual project, or ignoring some entirely in order to finish what he was working on. It became a lot less about finding cool cars and doing great builds, and more about turning cars over for profit (which was never a particularly interesting part of the show for me). Then they did the restaurant. I still have no idea why. All it did was suck time and money away from the garage, and which put the final nail in the coffin of the show. I'm assuming that someone must have talked Richard into it because he doesn't seem stupid enough to jump into the restaurant business on a whim when he knows nothing about how to run a restaurant. The F40 build was the last build I enjoyed, partly because it's an F40 (possibly the greatest Ferrari ever made), and partly because it was a monumental task that absolutely needed to be done correctly... and they actually pulled it off. However, it was emblematic of the "build creep" that was afflicting the show. It was like the producers kept telling them "We need to top the last build!" All they seemed to care about was how big were the numbers that they could slap onto the screen at the end of an episode. It was as if nobody producing the show actually understood why car people were watching.

Richard Rawlings' videos are annoying to watch and listen to. He almost always has to have a beer nearby. Maybe Miller pays him to promote their product. The fake drama on Fast N' Loud got old quick. The voiceover isn't familiar with the english language, and how it's used - when 'he' says "spinning", 'he' really means "flipping".

The GM garage is only 2 miles from my home. Most of the locals did not care for Richard. He treated his employees like crap, I know Sue and she is a angel. Again Richard treated her like rap. Never wanted to pay for her time and effort... NO sure if his restaurant is still open. I personally can not stand for Richard.

Wasn't Rawlins also an executive producer of Misfit Garage? I figured the "firing" was just a story plot to make a new spin-off show.

What really happened is that Richard is impulsive and a very poor businessman. His sister tried to keep him in check, but she couldn't. Plane and simple.

In an era where people flocked to a reality show with the least productive people on the planet, is it so hard to believe that a show turns trash into amazing rides could appeal to some people?

I feel a little sad for people who actually believe reality shows have anything to do with reality. People who have done commercials or video programs know it takes a lot of set up, lights , script, editing, retakes. It ain't real,ok.

i totally get the stuck in the rut scenario - while Rawlings might have been good at what he did, and responsible for employees, bringing in the work getting it done and making some money at it (sometimes), to me he came over as pretty arrogant, perhaps you need to be in this line of work and i bet the show itself having created the monster also created its downfall, yep i heard that saying just now around 18 mins in how the show had become repetitive, and that's the same in many shows, a format is discovered, people love it or hate it, respond to it (bad news is good news because people are talking about it) and the show demands more of it having created the monster, the monster eats itself - staff get niffed with it and begin to leave (or be fired), being in the public eye has its drawbacks more so than the advantages, what's better to have, your sanity or the money? - i put up with Rawlings as a boss (from my armchair) but it was the staff and characters that made the show, even Sue who i thought was amazing the way she got back at Rawlings, and lets face it, like the Gas Monkey staff, she was good at her job and new it, pleased that Arron is doing well with his own shop, he got a real creative side to him that makes him better than the rest, it useful to know your stuff, loved Tom Smith a clever guy when it came to starting old engines, crazy still loved that edge, i wish them nothing but success for their futures

I love how this was scripted,.. let me tell ya why it went well,. first off reality TV was a popular segment especially in the Automotive subject matter at the time,. so Timing was great,. second it was a show that was showing just how much it cost to do a deal beginning to end,.. even though that part of the show was soon covered over.. then partner Aaron was pretty good at explaining and "teaching" what was about to be done to a car mechanically,. so there was Informative content,.. later when he tried to "back" struggling garage owners - well that was a huge mistake,.... pissing off the Ferrari fans and marquee all over a wrecked F40 was a huge hit,.. so Rich was a real guy with an ego and a sincere heart,,, his cast was real people and Dennis Collins road on the golden path too,.. so thats why it did well,. and im sure he has never looked at failure like this snippet projects it..
