"Why did a flash game site targeted at tween girls start petering off in the 2010's?" The 3DS, which was the next (and last) in the DS line, which was the most popular line of video game consoles among young girls, came out and so did Animal Crossing New Leaf, which was (at the time) the newest installment in a franchise that was also massively popular among young girls. It was also when we would get the pokemon games with the fairy-typing, themes of fashion, and introduction of a nintendogs-like gameplay mechanic. I think what happened was that the mainstream video gaming market just ended up striking a chord with young girls at that moment in time.
@Narwhal393 жыл бұрын
(not talking about tween girls specifically but) the DS and 3DS were extremely popular in their own right but flash game sites had the advantage of having wide catalogs of free games. There'd be upgrades when you got money at the end of the levels so you could improve your salon and other things, there were also customers that were more snippy about how long you took to get to them. There was also a plethora of like pet games, where you would run around to various rooms to take care of sick or injured pets. Snail Bob, Penguin Diner, papa taco/pizza/burgers, Escape the room games, dog wash games, hot dog bush, and more. Playing the games in GirlsGoGame was a huge part of my childhood. My mom and me would sometimes spend time together playing a few of the games so I have a lot of happy memories tied to the website. I spent hours upon hours on this game website, but sometime around my my earlier pre teen age I slowly grew apart from going on the website, but when I watched a video about someone going on the website in 2018 or I was completely appalled by what the website became. Though I will always remember the site for what it once was before all this gross Elsa foot doctor s###.

I remember that kissing games were something forbidden for me by myself. I was too shy to click on that kind of game and I was afraid of my mum coming into the room and seeing what I'm doing (kissing virtual low graphic boys omg) My lil sisters and I really enjoyed dressing games and used to do a lot of tabs in one browser, made girls for ourselves, and played with them as with dolls. I miss that time😭

As someone who was there til the end, they were removing a lot of social aspects, like achievements and the customizeable avatars to place in stock pictures and the home feed, and creativity saving mechanics, like the gallery and save states, which made a lot of people start leaving. And then it pretty much died off the moment they removed login access which was the final straw for those who had stayed. They removed a lot of crowd favorite mmorpg games because of the login removal, and they were deleting good games even before that to make room for the more disturbing content. People left because the owners tried to make it less prone to being sued or reported, yanno, 'child friendly' claims, yet added more and more disturbing and disgusting content. Which chased most if not all of their dedicated fanbase off. And then the flash purge happened...
@togechicku49973 жыл бұрын
Man, the social aspects were my LIFE in early 10's. Grinding achievements on games that had them for a cooler-looking profile, showing off drawing skills on profile pic and in gallery... Pet Party seemed like the best thing ever, at least visually (the most important aspect for me at the time). Why did all that stuff go?

man, the timeline starting at 2012 makes me feel like a fosssilllll of a gen-z. when i was a tween/middle schooler, the main sites i tended to go to for dressup games were deviantart, rinmaru games, and of course doll divine, though that was somewhat later period (late middle school, early high school). before even that, the myscene, barbie, and polly pocket official websites had some really fun flash games that i would spend hours playing (this probably would have been around 2005/2006ish, maybe 2007). there were a lot of like...harry potter, goth, "emo" themed dress-up games that i liked to play, probably between 2008-2010ish--which, you know, not overly earlier than that, but i feel like with the release of tangled and frozen, the landscape of content changed a lot. anyways, i love your videos so much! your internet history stuff is always so fascinating, and really close to stuff i experienced first hand. thanks for all you do!!

This shit is why I know I'm a millenial lmao because by 2012 I was already in high school. My 'flash' gaming experience ranges from Shockwave in 2001/2002 to flash in like 2009. I still played flash games in high school, but like I was going back and playing older games I enjoyed, not seeking out new ones. Everyone loves the old Barbie games ofc, but I also miss the more obscure stuff that didn't survive the test of time like some of the old DivaStarz games (afaik only one got preserved) and WhatsHerFace.

My mom was a beta tester and gamer so I grew up watching her play, and my sister and I had a (really old) computer in our room that my mom built. We grew up playing frogger, speedy eggbert, orbz, think tanks, and insane aquarium. We learned a love of puzzles and creative problem solving from watching my mom play games with those elements, and I genuinely seek out puzzles and puzzle games to this day. So the idea that being a “girl gamer” wasn’t the norm was pretty funny to me when I first heard it. I mean, my dad is hopeless at games, while my mom was solving puzzles and finding exploits to help developers.
