little mix fans started calling jesy on her blackfishing BEFORE she left the group. i know some fans called her out before the sweet melody video come out but when it did, more fans joined trying to educate her about it. thats when she blocked fans too. and she continued doing it after she left the band. Also the girls themselves confront her about it when she was still in the band. i think it's important to add.

Only chronically online people care that much about her hairstyle and clothes. Sure, you can say the tans and darkened skin color are questionable, but then again some people have skin that tans quickly and easily in the sun. I never once thought Jesy was black or biracial. She doesn’t wear box braids or anything that was cultivated in black culture, and honestly I can say the people calling her out are the ones stereotyping black American fashion and culture

@@thicczagoonit’s not people who are chronically online. It’s fans who also seen them in real life and have been to concerts myself. There’s NO reason for a white woman to be that tanned other than to pass off as ambiguously adjacent to another race. It was a whole ass trend among white women from 2014 and even up to this day. There was a woman who went viral because she believed she really “became” black because she tanned herself dark enough. There’s whole ass video essays I have watched myself documenting these very topics & it’s not people who are chronically online critiquing this form of minstrel show, you’re projecting you’re on an insecurities. @@nanudv BF is subjective. The question is whether someone who tans as they do really trying to be black or racially ambiguous. In Jesys defence I'd say NO. But she is being blamed because people thought she was mixed. No one wants to be told how to look or dress so if she blocked people I am not surprised. There are people who try to pass off as black unfortunately Jesy has been used as a scapegoat. Her Haters and jealous people have used this to cancel her making her an example of blackfishing. I 10000% agree that she was relentlessly bullied from the Xfactor days all through her time in Little Mix but Iwhen it comes to how things happened around her solo debut, you cannot erase Jesy's agency in the situation. She defended that song to the hilt and went on and on about having grown up listening to Bad Boy music and that being the kind of music she's always wanted to make. She wasn't just given the song and she wasn't just given those optics. She actively chose them. She blackfished and threw racialised stereotypes into her music because that was what she wanted to do (despite both LM fans and her bandmates having spoken to her about how problematic her blackfishing had become). She thought it made her look cool and edgy and maybe in the early 2000s it might have but in a world where people are much more politically aware, it makes you look problematic af and insensitive. Her career dwindling is largely a reflection of that.

She didn’t actually stand for those things tho, or if she did it was only if it benefited her, that’s why the fans were also so hurt. The fandom didn’t turn against her just out of nowhere. Even when Boyz dropped they were still supportive of her - giving the side eye a little bit bc it really felt like when she left it was bc she didn’t want to be in the spotlight anymore and SOOOO soon after started dropping music so people got a little confused and speculation started. But really it was after The Livestream because exactly as he said, she talked bad about the group and let Nicki complete disrespect Leigh after she had just given birth (also after a very short while prior they thanked and dedicated their Brit to Jesy even after her sudden departure from the band). Everyone could tell that she was not extending the same grace to them as they were, at least publicly. Unfortunately she made her bed. The issue with Jesy is, that both her band mates, specially Jade & Leigh Anne had conversations about her blackfishing while being in the band, but she refused to listen or change.. Fans of the band, the mixers we also raised out concerns, and tried to educate Jesy, and tell her, why it was wrong and that she should stop the heavy self tanning as she’s trying to change her appearance to come across as she’s a woman of colour, when she isn’t, she’s a white woman.. so we raised our concerns & we didn’t like what she was doing and called her out.. we were met with a lot of hospitality, she decided to not only delete alot of comments but she also blocked a lot of mixers, which meant that she didn’t care and didn’t wanted to change. When boyz was released, she was rightfully so accused of black fishing and also playing on problematic stereotypes towards black men. She then tried to act like the victim, acted like she didn’t know anything, and that no one had told her or had a conversation with her regarding this, which failed miserably. She was exposed and that’s why she flopped as most of the general public didn’t like her, and most of mixers also distanced themselves from her, like we should. She did this to herself

I wish a public statement was made about the authenticity of those said text messages (something that involved them) instead of the authenticity of Jesy's tan (something that didn't involve them).

I became a fan bc of Black Magic and from then I followed them until the year before LM5 came out (other interests). It was maybe one of the best times for me, who just loves music. All the drama behind happened afterwards. I only know, that people called her names before, talked about her body shape all the time and actually only cared about Leigh-Anne, Jade and Perrie. So even back then you could tell that she was always the outcast. But Little Mix wouldn't have worked without her. Many people forgot that back then or simply ignored it. Unfortunately, the things went downhill, as described here. Since the British press (yellow press) likes to write what makes headlines and not the truth, I was always skeptical. It's good that there are channels like you that are much closer to the people. It's really sad the path Jesy has taken. It would probably have been best to say goodbye in peace, but unfortunately you can't turn back time. I'm currently enjoying Jade's debut. I hope you like it :)

Fake tan is extremely common in the uk but what Jesy did is that she wore cornrows ( is that the correct term ? ), like box braids essentially, and used a historical black protective hairstyle as an aesthetic, fully aware that there was a black woman in her group. Yes you can fake tan but your race doesn't change because of that. Jesy is a white woman at the end of the day. Like if I was leigh then I'd feel so unheard and dehumanised by her, like using someone's elses race as a moneterial benefit and aesthetic is so tone deaf and disrespectful to what the minority races have faced simply because of their skin colours or features. And it doesn't even seem like she ( Jesy ) is ashamed of it either. I'm obviously not supporting her because of this and the whole fued in general but if she did make an apology then I hope that it's a damn good one. And the funny thing is, that I'm not even a person of colour, I'm a white person, like Jesy.

Hi, I just watched the whole video and have something to say. 😅 The whole Jesy leaving situation (with the blocking etc.) and the livestream was definitely a shitty move but what I didn’t understood back then and still don’t understand is the black-fishing-thing. Tbh I don’t get the point. Everyone can tan how they want and just because you fill your lips doesn’t mean you try to look like a person of color. I think you can’t prescribe anything to a person. If I would like to tan, I will do that and just because some people have a problem with that, doesn’t mean they have to call me out for it. I don’t mean to be rude to anyone but that whole cancelling people situation our society is currently in is just so bad. Also I hate the phrase: “we try to educate you, because it’s problematic what you do.” (no matter the topic) is an absolute no-go for me (especially on social media). If a person doesn’t like what a celebrity is doing, then this person should just unfollow. I would not listen if people tell me what to do and try to educate me, they simply don’t have the right to put their opinion on my life.
