I think Etho low-key is minecraft's one true goat. He's got his LP series which may be the greatest minecraft LP ever. He was a huge part of Mindcrack and now he's really finally making a mark on Hermitcraft. He's extremely well respected by his peers. Huge youtubers like mr beast have claimed Etho as their inspiration. Minecraft developers have been known to watch Etho and he got his own block in the April fools update. Yet, he flys under the radar of the greater KZbin scene.

They all have amazing content but I think its honestly just the fact that minecraft isn't s popular as it used to be. and even mumbo and grian combined have just over the amount of subscribers dream has, so they're not even at the forefront of " the greater KZbin scene".

Minecrack’s days were numbered when the server reseted without much reason, there wasn’t really any fitting ending for “seasons”. This caused a huge blow to moral and interest while the new seasons lacked much purpose. They also lacked hardcore players and people were treating the game as if it were singleplayer too often. Its difficult being first, but it paved the way big time for future servers.

The SMP server I was a part of took a lot of inspiration from MindCrack, and the resets were one of them. So much work was tossed out just so the new world could have granite, andesite, and diorite, even though you could just go exploring. It's partly Mojang's fault for having significant generation changes in 1.7 and 1.8, but so many people got so hyped for the changes that they stopped playing while waiting several months for the new biomes/blocks, and that killed so many SPM servers. And then Mojang did nothing for the next 4 years, so yeah.

I don't think it was that, it was also a lot about changes to KZbin, a shrinking audience due to the game getting less popular (and the players getting tired of the game too!), and how streaming on twitch became more lucrative for popular players.

The abrupt ending of S4 in what felt like a short time followed by the gimmicky map of S5 and the leaving of members like Bdubs and Etho pretty much sealed the deal for me. I just think that they laid the president for what a SMP server could be, while HermitCraft simply expanded upon that with modern resources. MindCrack was great, but I don't put one over another, just because of how the game has changed, allowing SMPs to thrive. I am just happy that both exist in the KZbin archives, though.

I played on that server a lot, until the whole split and went on to play Lords of Minecraft. One of the reasons for the server was to have the community play with Mindcrack players, but besides a few of them like Baj, hardly any of them played on the server. Because of the whole controversy behind not supporting the server and Bdubs and GenerikB taking money to support another server that was breaking the rules was the cause for their departure.

@@electricsheep007 I still like to look back to the smp sometimes. It isn't on as much of a grand scale as hermitcraft, but I feel as if it was more genuine. There was more interaction between the members (from random encounters to the pranks), and they weren't as scripted I feel.

Missed so many things that were awesome of Mindcrack: King of the Ladder, Prank Wars, Zisteau (king of pranks and giant concepts), inventing UHC, Race for the Wool (featuring Super Hostile/CTM inventor Vechs), Guudeland. In the end I believe Mindcrack declined and Hermitcraft rose for a simple reason: Guude just liked talking while playing games, and minecraft was just a medium, not his passion. Like he said he was bored playing alone when he started Youtubing it. That's why it diversified into other games and marathon event shows. Meanwhile, Hermitcraft (after GB left) was a democracy formed around minecraft. Everything they did was minecraft. So decisions were made to grow Minecraft content, not to grow a group that sometimes did minecraft.

Mindrcak is the reason hardcore mode is in the game. The video should have gone further into the impact it had on the game/community, instead of just mentioning it was the inspiration for Hermitcraft. Hermitcraft is nice and all, but Mindrack was just on another level. It's a disservice to Mindcrack to act is if they were merely just the first popular smp server. I don't understand how he can cassualy drop the fact Notch (didn't even mention Dinnerbone) joined the server and played with the guys and not go further on the fact that the server maybe responsible for a significant rise in popularity of the game itself and several game mechanics

I'm not sure who made the decision for the slowly expanding world border in season 5, but it really seemed like that was the small domino that led to the fall of the entire community. I can remember how it went myself. First they were interested by it, doing experiments they wouldn't do otherwise and getting a really dense hub for the spawn as that's all they had access to. I can even remember them going out to explore the new horizons to see if an ocean monument or stronghold came into view yet. But then the attrition came, and they slowly started posting less and less videos, even though the news channel updates for Mindcrack were just as enthusiastic. Sethbling eventually did away with the world border, but that didn't make Etho return to finish his giant tree base. Activity dropped hard, and Etho left not long after. Then with key members gone, they were walking into season 6 with a shot leg, never to find the glory of season 4 again.

While it did get old eventually, I liked people being forced to build together, and forced the spawn city into a city instead of gathering of shops. I understand it might have been frustrating for the players who like to explore or build large projects, however.

the issue was the people in the group who didnt play after the first week voted for the constant resets and the world border, while the people who actually played on the server were against it, this is why Guudes torch Tuesdays were a thing because he hated the idea of the resets. Etho left due to having to give out his real name for the copyright agreement, there is also some possibility to the resets also adding to this as well. Now days the group really isn't about Minecraft, yes the server is still there and more active since Patrons can play on the server but charity has been the major focus since S5

I have good memories of watching Paul Soares Jr play on MindCrack. I remember he built a sandstone museum of the server, had a house in a tree, and a mule called Ferris Mueller (a reference I do not understand to this day haha). Kinda crazy that I can remember stuff that happened such a long time ago. It’s sad that MindCrack died but hey at least we have some good SMPs that have carried the torch onwards, HermitCraft especially. Edit: well the video makes it’s clear MindCrack hasn’t actually ‘died’ although it’s basically become irrelevant over time. My main point stands though, HermitCraft absolutely feels like a spiritual successor to MindCrack, and other SMPs like SMPLive, SMPEarth, and DreamSMP have been innovating upon the core idea that MindCrack proved could work.

Mindcrack was legendary. I still have fond memories of season 4, where Bdubs and Etho really started collaborating a lot more and making some amazing builds. Not to mention their UHCs which were really quite unique back in the old days. It got me into Minecraft in 2013/14, now it's over 6 years later and while I rarely play the game, I still watch Bdubs, Etho and Beef all the time. Some things never change.

He’s not huge or mainstream (only 500k subs) but he helped catapult Minecraft mods in the mainstream, and the April fools dimension update even has an Easter egg based off him, so he’s had a big enough impact. I know he helped me get into mods, which is now my favorite way to play Minecraft, and I know he helped many others.

@@st43k76 Direwolf20 still plays/tests on the Forgecraft server. However, that server is very transient. Sometimes a season lasts for months while others might only last a few weeks before it gets reset again. Other times, it's offline for a while because there's nothing significant in the world of mods to really justify a server or be on the server.

if I may add something, Mindcrack rose as Minecraft itself rose, but it also fell as Minecraft fell. Nowadays, we're used to seeing a major update once a year to keep the game fresh, but that wasn't so much the case back then. Updates were more frequent, but they added very little in comparison. Honestly, if you asked me what 1.6, 1.7 and 1.8 added, I'd struggle to give you an answer and that's saying something: thanks to modded, 1.7.10 is by far the update I have played the most! Speaking of which, 1.8 was the first update that took over a year to develop. Nowadays, you see updates reach the .2, .3 or .4 update before a new major update comes (like 1.12.2, 1.13.2, 1.14.4). Well, the 1.7 update reached 1.7.10! Again, this was while waiting for 1.8, which wasn't that big an update, at least not by modern standards. One of the many reasons why Mindcrack fell was because it was stagnating, and the main reason why, in my opinion, was because Minecraft itself was stagnating. Recently, Minecraft has made a return to popularity, and one of the big reasons is because even though major updates are sparse, by comparison to old Minecraft, they add a ton of new content that keeps Minecraft fresh. That serves as an excellent factor of motivation to keep people going with the game. Something else I should add is that, as you said, back then they didn't just play on the vanilla Mindcrack server, they had several series going in other games, along with extra Minecraft content. People were also playing UHC (yes, for those who don't know, I believe Mindcrack invented UHC), along with the FeedTheBeast server, among others. This meant they played on the vanilla server less and less as their attention was divided. In my opinion, they were trying to hold too many series going together at once. By comparison, look at Hermitcraft: sure, many of the players play other games, but you still have an active core of great KZbinrs who mostly do Hermitcraft. Many, like Xisuma and Mumbo Jumbo, keep their non-Minecraft content to separate channels. Iskall, Rendog, GoodTimesWithScar and Cubfan upload pretty much exclusively Hermitcraft right now and don't seem to have second channels (however I am not aware of whether or not they stream). To add to this, look at VintageBeef (the one I'm the most familiar with as I've been subscribed to him since 2012), one of the guys who played on both servers. Beef used to hold many series across different games and many Minecraft series too. However, you'll notice he tended to burn himself out and didn't keep those series going for as long. When you upload many let's plays at once, some will see less activity and many will die out. If you look at his playlists, you'll see what I mean. The guy has tons of dead series that barely took off. However, contrarily to what would happen usually, his Hermitcraft series is still going and he's still really active several months later. Why? His channel has changed over the past months. He hasn't uploaded anything non-Minecraft in 9 months (this is ignoring House into Home, his second channel) and seems to play less series at once. For months, he exclusively uploaded Hermitcraft! Beef has his attention less divided, focuses on fewer series and, as a result, they last longer. Hermits are much more active on the server, don't have their attention divided as much as Mindcrackers did, and as such the server stays active and people keep playing.

I feel like this retrospective leaves out *almost all* of the nuance of Guude and the birth of Mindcrack, as well as what he wanted from the project... It started out from a very personal place for Guude, he was going through a really hard time. It was like his diary. And as things got bigger and bigger. He eventually felt alienated from his audience. To paraphrase a little bit, he felt like the audience wasn't there to watch Jason. But rather the character that is the Admin of the big mammajamma server. Don't quote me because this isn't exhaustive and not something Jason ever said. But this is my interpretation being a fan that showed up in the mid seasons of Mindcrack. And wasn't there when it was a man making video diaries to help him grieve the loss of his dad. Just seems like the Server was a project that became something Guude didn't particularly want responsibility for. Because it was anchored to minecraft, and almost a genre shift in content production. Poor guy got really cynical for a time there before he started live streaming. And when he did start, it seemed his disposition improved somewhat. I hope the guy is doing okay. He's had some unfair shit happen, and was kind of a role model for me as a teenager becoming an adult. Kind of like the super cool older cousin.

I still go back and watch "the king of the ladder" video sometimes when I'm bored. Such a great time. I wish hermitcraft today had more of those 5-15 people heists, pranks, and general shenanigans. That being said, the mycelium resistance war vs HEP does come close, but it just doesn't feel quite as simple and fun, being more grand and tactical.

Mindcrack was such a huge part of my childhood. a friend of mine showed me vintagebeef and the amount of time i spent watching him and guude especially was wild. i got personally invested in so many of these guys, but ultimately it makes sense why things fell apart. i have a lot of empathy for guude as it’s hard to balance making minecraft content for fun and also doing it as a full time job. they had to basically figure out on the fly how to deal with the huge growth that they experienced with no example to follow since they were basically the pioneers of multiplayer minecraft content. but ultimately, playing the same game over and over gets stale for most people, so it was probably going to decline in activity eventually regardless there’s also a ton of behind the scenes stuff that didn’t get covered in this video and would probably take a full length video essay to dive into - the dwarves vs zombies and playmindcrack drama comes to mind as an especially messy situation that caused some divisions in the group and also showed how hard it was to turn mindcrack into an actual business

This video is a great summary without going too much into detail. I remember in the very beginning knowing, liking and watching a fair amount of Mindcrackers. Occassionaly Hermitcraft videos would pop up in my recommendation, but since I didn't know those youtubers, the interest was small. Then, some Mindcrackers started to have cross-over jokes and mentions, such as about JoeHill and others. This made it fairly easy to "transfer" the fanbase from one server to another. It felt just like a name change at first. Only now, watching this video, one realizes how many youtubers have been lost and how many others have joined. I specially miss GenerikB, who would often have quite funny ideas, but I know that he was left out for other specific reasons.

I think one of the aspects that is often overlooked when talking about the fall of Mindcrack "due to one poor decision" is that at the time, going more "pro" and being business-concious was actually quite common. It was the time of Machinima and youtubers signing up to these representative companies in order to get better sponsorships or have more contact with the bigshots at youtube, the time of in-person conventions like Minecon - pretty much all of these youtubers regretted that later on, but at the time, being able to do youtube for a living was still an incredibly risky and unrealistic dream for many.

Fun fact, the Jsano19 fan server still exists to this day, we are on our 5th season and have been active for I think at least 7 or 8 years or so. We're still an active server and our most popular muckluck has 20K subs. A lot of us still stream. We also recently did our 34th official UHC following in the Mindcrack tradition.

The biggest plus for me about Mindcrack compared to Hermitcraft now is that it was a lot more relatable. Hermitcraft nowadays is all about incredible, unachievable hours of work. A Mindcrack episode could just be building a wall of a small scale house which would take you about 10 hours to build. Hermitcraft is all about mega-builds, extreme resource gathering and time-lapses of days of work I simply can never put into the game. Every episode seems to want to one up the last one, and the creators seem to think of an episode as a failure if they haven't put in a minimum of 12 hours of work. It's a showcase of what minecraft can be, but not what's achievable for a casual player. I know that's probably what draws a large part of the audience, as they want to look up to the creators and see the best of the best. But Mindcrack gave me the feeling I could be part of them because what they showed in their video's was comparable to what I had/could make in my own worlds. So even though I enjoy Hermitcraft it will never reach the same place in my heart as Mindcrack did.

This is why my fav Hermitcraft player to watch has been Etho! Compared to everyone else his builds are really unique yet not incredibly massive and he just takes it one step at a time rather than planning it all out in one guy, which makes it a lot more of a realistically achievable build for me.

This is more of a product of time than it is a product of a different server. Yes on HermitCraft they make big and impressive builds, but that is because nowadays they have to compete for attention from other Minecraft channels that are making insane builds and doing these crazy challenges. There are so many SMPs that younger audiences want to watch that you have to give them something to be impressed and engaged with to remain inspired. If it’s just an adult talking about whatever then why would a kid want to watch that? They also do have livestreams where they just talk while they build so if you’re interested I’d recommend trying to catch those. Bdubs does them occasionally and they’re good fun!

I'm 23 now, watched Mindcrack from season 3 onwards and this video tapped into so many memories I forgot I even had. Mindcrack was a huge part of my teen years; From eagerly anticipating the arena build with Bdubs or the never-ending castle with Beef, to watching all the perspectives in UHC, constantly refreshing the page when I knew the next episodes were coming out. The prank wars, the trial case. Hell, even race for wool. I was there through most of it, and all I can do is thanks those that made that great content for us all. Admittedly, my interest in Minecraft isn't particularly high these days, but even so, I come back on occasion to see how some of my old favorite youtubers are doing. This is especially true when, like recently, a new season of Hermitcraft begins (season 8 as of writing this) and everybody is together, making new content and thus, new memories for a newer generation of people, and those of us who're still around from the predecessors.

Original Comment: It is clear you put a lot of effort into making this video. It is a shame that much effort went in to still get so much dreadfully wrong. The legal problems we faced were a result of 2 members breaking the law and we had to do something to put a stop to it before the entire group went down, you can clearly see that since then there was never a push for merchandise or booths or any of those other things you claim in this video. We did shift our focus from minecraft vanilla content to a charity organization and as of last year have raised 1.2 million dollars for children and are hosting another huge charity event in just a week. You mentioned people like Beef leaving? Never happened, he still makes content with us and participates in our charity events. You mentioned my content changed from being child friendly? Never happened, I have cussed from S1E1 until this day. You could have easily reached out to fact check before making this video, its a shame you didn't. It is also normally common curtesy to ask another content creator permission before using their content to make a video, like clips from my recent and past episodes, would have been nice to see that sense of decorum respected. I think a better title would have been the rise and fall of the mindcrack minecraft server, because Mindcrack as the charity organization it is today is doing the best it has ever done, the only good thing to come out of 2020. I hope your future videos on subjects such as these you put more time into the research aspect and maybe reach out to those involved in the subject matter of your videos so that you can ensure you are putting out factual stories. Hey so, as far as I was aware I didn't hide the comment, I was typing it on my phone and may have fat fingered it, as when I entered my response it said "This comment is no longer available". Anyways as for the comment, I want to apologise for being unclear and want to clear some things up. For your comment on the legal issues, I just went off what the old post on the mindcrack website said titled "mindcrack is changing". I then went off what Etho said as to why he left the server. I didn't even know there we're any legal issues, the post talked about expanding the groups reach which also mentioned booths, sponsorships and merchandising, and I just wanted to mention that it was the reason Etho left. I think your charity work is phenomenal and you definitely don't get enough credit for it, but I wanted to focus on the SMP, which is my bad as I should have made it clearer. When I mentioned Beef leaving I mean't similar to Docm, as he left the server not the group, but once again my bad for being unclear. With the child friendly content part, I was referring to the group in general with cussing, but it was a bad example to use your recent video in that section. I have changed the title accordingly. Apologies for my misdoings, I should have been more clear and not made such errors.

I get why you might feel slighted Guude, but factually this video referenced mindcracker's videos, Reddit posts, and mindcrack's official statement. The whole illegal stuff is not really common knowledge and you should not be surprised it wasn't included in the video. I followed all of you guys back then and only heard that side of the story years later deep in the mindcrack subReddit. The title "The Rise and Fall of Mindcrack" seems to be perfectly fitting. Mindcrack is does not have the following it once did, it's factual. Mindcrack does amazing charity work yes, but this is a minecraft channel and every video this guy makes is looking at minecraft. The video will definitely reach people who have never even heard of Mindcrack before.

Considering how recent this video is, I'm not sure you really did your research in regards to the "fall" of Mindcrack, specifically the licensing of Mindcrack. The myth of Guude being money-hungry and trying to make Mindcrack a business has been thoroughly debunked, as he has said on multiple occasions that the agreement signed by all willing members of the group was specifically to keep members like Bdubbs and generikb from accepting sponsorships and illegally not disclosing them.

Yeah, they did that... I'm not sure about disclosure, but they publicly promoted some very exploitative servers. Even Vintagebeef let himself be used to promote a pay to win server which was blatantly violating Mojang's terms (years after they'd made very clear what those terms were and Notch had left Mojang over the drama it caused). But that's hardly unusual for youtubers, sadly. The disagreement with Robert Moran (a.k.a OldManWillakers) on the Playmindcrack server was also about monetization, and again it was Guude who wanted to set limits.

I remember watching Vintage beef and Etho on Minscrack in 2012 and 2013. I later watched Psj and Generikb. I miss watching that server Hermitcraft just isn't the same. I remember the decline in 2015 and 2016 and it made me sad to see it go.

Paulsoaresjr taught me how to play Minecraft, and watching him play with his family in punchwood island (if anyone remembers) and the people in mindcrack showed me how much more valuable this game was with other people. I still play to this day (12+ years later!) and the only minecrafter who’s videos I still watch are his. He truly exudes dad energy in the best way possible, and he recently started a new tutorial series for people starting in the new updates which has been a joy to watch and reminisce about the good old days. While I miss seeing him play with the people in the mindcrack server, I definitely would have left too if I were in the same situation.

Also, in terms of the current minecraft community as a whole, he is “underground”. Literally ask a Dream fan, or a Technoblade fan if they know Etho, a majority of them wouldn’t have even heard of him.

You could see in Etho’s analytics that he isn’t gaining that massive of a subscriber count than back when he was a big name in the community, it correlates with how a much smaller percentage of the newer community actually seeing him. Also, if you can’t even name 5 minecraft youtubers that are currently more popular than Etho, I believe you’ve been living under a rock (no offence). Due to the way Dream managed to gain popularity through TikTok spreading clips of his videos around, almost everyone that comes in contact with him is struck with a massive boost in following. A majority of Dream’s following came from TikTok, and is still on TikTok, making it a massive platform for content for the current minecraft community. I have personally been on TikTok for approx 3 years now, and I have still yet to see any mention of Etho, even on my minecraft aligned algorithm.

As you may remember, until the recent Hermitcraft blowup, his subscriber count was completely stuck, and had been for several years. He wasn't shrinking, but he sure as hell wasn't growing. Because of this, those followers that he did have started becoming an increasingly tight fanbase, with Etho as a kind of underground icon. Now that Hermitcraft has brought new life to the channel and he's seeing actual growth again, us old timers just have to get used to our underdog being mainstream again

Thanks for making this video. This is the kind of history I would have loved to have known as a kid. Kurtjmac is the reason I started watching KZbin videos, and his joining Mindcrack is how I discovered Etho, Bdubs, Beef, Doc, Pause, etc. I used to refuse to watch Hermitcraft out of resentment, lol. I'm glad I stopped, because HC feels the way Mindcrack used to, and I missed that feeling.

It blows my mind that some of the biggest fans of the current Hermitcraft season have never and will never watch “The Trial”. Possibly the greatest Minecraft collaboration in history. Man, I miss Mindcrack.

I remember coming home freshman year of highschool every day to watch mindcrack non-stop. Bdubs, Etho, GennyB, Vintage Beef, Nebris, ect. I miss the prank episodes and the UHC battles the most. I don't watch mc as much anymore but it is nice to see many found a home on that new server.

Man, this brings back memories. Mindcrack videos were the bulk of my KZbin viewing back from 2013-2015. B-Dubs, GenerikB, SethBling, Guude, Zisteau, Pause, Pyro, and many of the others were my jams. I still watch some of them in their other videos. The UHCs that come out now and then. Seth breaking speedruns. Guude, Pause, and a lot of them doing Mario Kart and TTT. Whenever there is a new "Zisteau Plays Minecraft" I have a piece of special joy. But it sadly just isn't the same.

I still have my Mindcrack Twitch shirt, they were my partner when I started my channel back when small channels needed partners to be paid, Guude was never anything but nice to me. I do miss old Mindcrack.

I remember Mindcrack being basically my entire life.. And when it started to fall apart I honestly lost myself. Having never had people to hang out with all I ever wanted was to have a group like Mindcrack to call my friends. I miss them all and listening to the Mindcrack Podcast is so surreal in 2022... VintageBeef and Guude uploaded a new season of Mindcrack recently....

Yeah I noticed this too. Like no one swore if Etho was recording with them, for example, but I never remembered Mindcrack as a whole being anti-swearing. I specifically remember how much Guude and Pause swore when I watched them back in the day, so I was a bit confused by that part. I also remember Vechs used to swear a lot, but he cut down because he was inspired by Paulsoaresjr not to, but because of any server-wide standard.

Reading through these comments, I'm really concerned about how several individuals here are being misinformed on a subject that they will likely never look more into (due to a lack of interest in spending another 15 minutes to actually get the context). Especially since this video will likely not be taken down because of its factual errors, and there is not even a mention in the pinned comment or description that information provided in the video was misleading at worst and poorly researched at best. Guude was never a channel that did not swear. I am unsure ifthe creator actually watched any of his videos aside from his collabs with other mindcrackers. There has been an ongoing joke about "claps" he had to do for Pakratt so that Pak could go through the audio easily and edit out the swears. Similarly, Etho edited out swears. If the creator is remembering a Guude who does not swear they have never watched Guude past or present. The Etho angle was also misleading. It was framed like he does livestreams on the regular, that was a super secret livestream where he was clipped. He spoke on the matter while it was still fresh and the way the video was edited heavily leans into the public misconception based on conjecture that it was for merchandise. He was pushed into making a response as well, something ignored by this angle. Etho is a private person, which plays into why he wouldn't want his face/name tied to a legal binding brand that was formed in reaction to numerous issues, including alleged illicit activities by now former members and misrepresentations by bad faith actors who pretended they were Mindcrack because Mindcrack had no official members/trademark to show who the real mindcrack(ers) were. To label season four as the peak with no mention of season three tells me the creator is not someone who actually watched Mindcrack or knows its history and numerous other clips that skip seasons and ignore context are also examples of a lack of familiarity with the topic. The group "changed" when certain members of the group began to play other games and focus more on modded/single player (which also died out - no mention of Crackpack or the spin offs etc) after the map resets led to less activity (big advocates for resets were players who played the least and said they would return if it were fresh). There was zero mention of Gmod, Mario Kart, Don't Starve, and the various other recording sessions. Zero mention of how they are today and how their group has changed its focus. The only argument that could be made is this video was not to describe the downfall of mindcrack (which would then defeat the purpose of showing Guude's low view counts which are across his content since he has pivoted to twitch and [aside from Jsano recordings] a lot of his content became reuploads of twitch/stream segments), but the downfall of the SMP which tanked around S5 but has turned into a whole new thing in the latest season. To say its dead now is to ignore a long history of how it evolved and changed into a server that now allows its fans on it, along with ignoring how its main content creators pivoted from YT to Twitch. There is zero mention of how the server was one of the most requested servers to join and how they even set up a "canIjoinmindcrack.com" website to tell people no. JoeHills, one of my favorite hermits next to Etho, was REJECTED by Mindcrack in favor of a different mindcracker. Ignoring the stories behind who joined and how hard it was to join the SMP leaves out another critical angle of how it was acclaimed in its heyday. If you look at Hermitcraft, they are all doing YT (with Twitch as an extra), which is the opposite of how Mindcrack pivoted after the ad issues. Also bringing up the politics angle to me is hilarious. Guude started Mindcrack to talk about everything going on in his past and his life and then invited friends on before giving the server to the community. Guude's staple is talking about things that have impacted him or will impact him. He can't exactly make up new stories about his life when his past is now well documented by the stories he's told - politics is what there is for him to talk about. Anyhow, my comment will probably be hidden or deleted. I've noticed this trend with this creator (nuance being left out for a clickbait vid) and I wanted to call it out before they go famous and decide to misrepresent more things I cared about as a kid.

I've heard multiple times now of 'illicit activities', with Bdoubleo and generikb specifically being mentioned, but have not been able to find any more info on it. You seem pretty well informed - are you able to elaborate? Bdoubleo seems like a pretty standup guy so these rumors have always seemed odd to me.

Little bit of research and I was able to figure it out... I still think bdubs is a good guy and just got caught up in something he didn't fully understand. That doesn't justify it, but I think his presence on hermitcraft is evident he has no ill intentions - I don't think they'd have accepted him if they felt otherwise.

There's another player that did a lot during season 4 off the main server and I remember that he gave a much deeper talk on what was going on behind the scenes (And please don't go bugging him he still streams but does not care for his past with Minecraft and his old self, he deleted much of his old content for that reason). Rawb Maroon aka BruceWillikars was a good friend of PauseUnpause and to an extension Etho. He was a wizard with making Minecraft minigames before the existence of command blocks and used really archaic systems compared to now to create some minigames that dwarf even many of today's minigames. Guude made a fan server called Planet Mindcrack in which there was a few minigames: a Quake-like wizard game, Hunger Games on the season 3 map, world's dedicated to exploring old seasons maps, a roleplaying server called Lord's of Minecraft, and one of Rawb's OG minigames Dwarves vs Zombies. One thing to note about this server was that you could run into any of the Mindcrack server players goofing off (I myself ran into Guude in a Hunger games match). This included many being a part of The Lord's of Minecraft roleplaying server. The server didn't last long however as Rawb and Guude started butting heads on what the purpose of the fan server was for and Guude putting a lot of pressure on everyone to do more work (this is Rawb's words and can't be given to all Mindcrackers). It can't be made certain and is only speculation but this may have been why the regular server was so quiet as Guude's community plans were dividing attention on projects. It eventually came to a head where Rawb and Guude had a massive fight resulting in Rawb leaving. It was that moment I specifically remember Mindcrack started going downhill as the entire community was fracturing on who's side to take. With it's main development lead gone Planet Mindcrack disappeared and Mindcrack just slowly fell into oblivion as people both content creators and fans alike disappeared because everyone could tell the spark of fun was gone. It wasn't a server of friends anymore, it was more akin to a theme park. Current day Hermitcraft has much the same feel as early Mindcrack with everyone on the server having fun and doing things with each other and too each other. It's just like what a group of friends would do except taken to massive build proportions. PS to anyone from that era of Old Man Willikars and Mindcrack I'm protecting the Cake Shrine to the end and please I need some Swammies I'm so desperate.

These guys were my everything for a few years there 2013 to 2016 or so. Watched the minecraft videos, the G mod stuff, listened to the podcast. Slowly they adapted to a new KZbin and slowly I found new interests; and I haven't watched in a few years. But they'll always hold a special place in my heart cause my final few years of high school and first year of college were filled with them.

For me personally, Mindcrack SMP was peak minecraft. Nothing will ever beat it even if you have more popular channels like dream and technoblade these days. They are close, but they will never reach the golden days of mindcrack. Mindcrack was a statement of an era and they sure were some nice days.

Man, thinking back there were so many legendary moments we watched happen with these guys that defined 2012-2015 for me. I loved mindcrack so much, Etho and Sethbling and Aureylian and all those guys. Got to meet a whole bunch of them at PAX East one year, it was the highlight of the year for me. I've grown a lot since then and I don't think about it a lot anymore but those were the days, this was a legendary time on minecraft youtube

It’s sad to see that Guude fought hard against resenting the season 3 map but lost. I never knew. I know there was falling interest among players at the tail end of the season, but old maps just have such an appeal as a viewer

At that point Mindcrack was a democracy and the people that would have liked the server to not reset were the few that played continually, the fast majority of the Group then liked the Idea of a yearly reset so they could play for the week or two then stop, that has stopped now with season 8 since Patreons are aloud on, It is a point of contention even now but it is something that is a very debated topic in and outside the group
