Regarding being accessible to all audiences, there's a lot of humor in there that adults will laugh at but kids won't really understand. Nothing inappropriate of course, but only adults are going to fully appreciate things like Etho building a shop in the sky in order to commit tax evasion.
@harayaalirak40404 жыл бұрын
very true. I think that the hermit's all cater to a minecraft-loving community, but tend to lean more into certain age groups. Joe and Cleo's paying-armor-stand-as-rent antics would be more appreciated by older kids/adults and Grian and Iskall's "annoy mumbo at all costs" shenanigans can be loved more by younger kids. as for "inappropriate" of course...well, we have jevin and his sneaky little references from time to time xD

Joe definitely comes to mind here. I'm 18 and still some of his references go over my head lol. But obviously considering most of the the hermits are in their 30s-40s and many have kids it doesn't surprise me that they are more able to appeal to a wider audience - they can relate to adults in terms of mature humour but have a great understanding of what makes something child-friendly as parents themselves.

honestly the introduction of Grian was such an amazing move. His antics and shenanigans have let to some of the most interesting content to date. I loosely followed HC in season 5, there was a shopping district, but all in all the hermits didn't interact very much. in season 6, Grian was responsible for multiple server-wide and even community wide events. Including: -Tag -HermitCraft Civil war -Demise -Hot potato -The prankening (from day fricking one he went around and pulled all sorts of stuff off camera) -Sahara -Alpha HC (the time machine incident) -Area 77 and the hippies -The great house war He actively went looking for people and came up with all sorts of skits in season 7 -Tag 2 Electric Boogaloo (always use the full name) -The prankening -The Mycelium resistance (no wait, that was Mumbo) -The Mayoral campaign you can see how the hermits started doing funny stuff as well -Hermit challenges -More mayoral campaigns -DECKED OUT! he has had such an amazing influence on everyone

I think another things is the variance in style from various members attracts different ages and demographics. Grian is well known to have a younger demographic with Scar and Iskall, and their content style reflects that with how they present their videos. Etho brings an older audience purely from how long he's been around and the fact that most of his fans including myself have reached adulthood after starting in my early teens. Beef, doc, and xisuma etc again bring older audiences based on their more mature content and non directly minecraft related content that reflects their age. All these groups coming together creates a massive pool of possible viewers for any video. I watch every etho and beef video, but I'll still watch random grian videos every once and a while, and I'm sure its the other way around too
@alexhooper66254 жыл бұрын
I most definitely watch every Mumbo and Grian video, and I'm 24. They're just so relaxed and funny, while also containing technical challenges that I can relax and enjoy them. I've been meaning to check out Xisuma and Etho lately because they seem to be more adult themed.

I was introduced to Hermitcraft in early 2013 by some crazy British 16 year old named Ollie, better known as Mumbo. Crazy to think how all these years later, the hermits are still the prime example of what Minecraft should be. Imo the thing that makes them so great is how they play Minecraft for the fun of it but also out of dedication to the game, not for the sake of making content like many other channels do/did. That's probably why we see them more than any other group being invited to Mojang's events and given a major voice in how development of the game should progress. Hermitcraft really is peak survival Minecraft

@jasonreed75222 жыл бұрын
I think i found Hermitcraft when i saw a recommendation for a Mumbo video showing his crazy sphere base at the end of season 6. And i had already gotten into Etho (i picked a world tour that wasn't too far back in time and used that as my start point, but i remember him flying by shooting himself with a punch bow, which thank god that we can just use rockets now). So for me season 7 was just epic, especially with Etho's monstrosity and the Shade-E-E's "prank shop". Grian pranks are very obvious like death looping scar (which couldn't have gone better if he scripted it) or Boat bombing big eyes. Etho pranks are i will individually name light grey glass panes so they won't stack and place them in various slots in all your containers until you go crazy figuring out what I've done. And then i will hide bee nests in your walls so you hear buzzing. One makes you laugh, on is insidious with long term dividends when a "free glass" dispenser gets installed at the point if greatest foot traffic. (The shopping district portal) But what makes them great is how they are all good people who just want to have fun and will gladly help clean up their mess. (Or accept retribution)
@mr.dawson91414 жыл бұрын
I've been on and off following hermitcraft since somewhere around season 3. and in my eye's the server's lowest point and the closest it came to death was late season 5. by the later parts of season 5 over half of the whitelist had gone pretty inactive and most videos basically felt like singleplayer. the way season 6 was done coupled with minecraft's resurgence saved the server tho

@@polarey_ this is exactly it in my opinion. season 5 everyone was SUPER spread out and barely interacted. Minecraft itself was also floundering in popularity, so I think that had a lot of members thinking they were at the end of the line. So only those who would have been proficient at single player series anyway, but didn't have one to fall back on, stuck around and stayed consistent through the end of Season 5... and people don't watch Hermitcraft, or SMPs in general, to see someone play alone. Keeping “kid-friendly” and selling relationships were definitely important. The former allowed them to avoid suppression and even benefit from the KZbin algorithm. The latter is simply the best form of consistent content for viewers. Loneliness is pervasive, and living through and investing in someone else’s relationships can be quite compelling.
@MollymaukT2 жыл бұрын
The latter also helps with the algorithm in some cases. Like Mumbo and Grian are the two biggest channels in the server by far and I'm pretty sure 95% of their subs intersect cause they're really a package deal with all the collabs in and out of Hermitcraft. Same with ZombieCleo and JoeHills
@jasonreed75222 жыл бұрын
@@MollymaukT exactly And then the Hermitcraft recap really synergizes well with them even though it is just a fan project. A quick bit about everyone with jokes thrown in definitely helps mix around the viewers. Grian, Mumbo, and scar all have over 8million subs now so when some of them see the recap they may decide to check out Tango to see HTF he made decked out or etho because the Monstrosity is such a unique build. And of course its kinda ironic the server built on natural player interactions (like grian getting build burn out and just AFKing at peoples base to see what they do) is named HERMITcraft.

If you want a tldr of hermitcraft: A bunch of grown people who mess around with each other in the weirdest ways, making ridiculously large builds, complex contraptions of redstone and many minigames. Need more? Alright, well to give you an idea of the attitude of the server, they're currently fighting over a mushroom grass variant and normal grass. The leader of the mushrooms is literally fighting his past, as he elected the other leader to make the district look better, hence why he covered it in grass.

I have been a loyal Hermitcraft fan for 5 years now. It is amazing to see how successful it has become today! Server Wide events and competitions, such as the Turf War and HCBBS really help as well. They keep fans interested and have really creative ideas that make it so much fun to watch! I especially have loved watching smaller Hermits, such as False, grow so much. When I started watching her she had 30k, but now she has 100's of thousands of subscribers, and is getting major attention from MCC. I love Hermitcraft, and it will always be one of, if not my favorite Minecraft series.
@rail56954 жыл бұрын
i feel like grian kinda blew hermit craft up and with frequent collab between iskall, mumbo and grian, it brings even more traffic to the server, they both gets over 1m for every single video they upload only 48 hours after. This also happened to scar who were significantly smaller at the start of season 7, his frequent collab with grian really helped him grow, and hes getting the same view to sub ratio as iskall, which is almost 1:1
@harayaalirak40404 жыл бұрын
And whats great about it is that the viewership is migrates towards other hermits as well! Stress has been making the occasional cameo in iskall's videos recently which definitely helps her be seen, and I know that other hermits in the jungle like X and Etho and Keralis have gotten really good viwership rates recently too. I love how close and interconnected all the hermits seem to be
@Maxmilion60044 жыл бұрын
Grian is social. if he didn't join it would still be ok. yes the collabs def helped out but honestly. without grian do you think we would have had the build off, the pranks, the civil war. its cool to see them doing more collabs with each other tho, and they have all opened up a bit more. which has def made it a better show to watch
@Maxmilion60044 жыл бұрын
@@harayaalirak4040 its hard to have time to watch them all. i def like mumbo iskall and grian together. but have you noticed he has pulled away from them more and started with bdubs and scar more. i think thats a better collab because they are all builders. iskall and mumbo are still my favs to watch but compared to grian they are a lot more dry, of course until hermit challenges they finally loosened up again. i really wish each youtuber when they collab would have different content from the collab because its hard to watch the same stuff over and over and over again
@harayaalirak40404 жыл бұрын
@@Maxmilion6004 Mmm, this is just my opinion but I kinda disagree. Recently I think it's Grian who's most dry. I love his shenanigans with the other hermits, but recently I've felt like the pace of his videos seem very rushed (but I suppose it makes sense since he's busy with his wedding irl). Mumbo is also great in his own way, but he talks too fast for me to understand his accent. I love Iskall the most because of his humor and how his videos are a little more laid-back and project-focused. Hermitcraft doesn't have to be hectic and full of collabs to be enjoyable-i like it just as much watching them finish a build/redstone project over time But I agree with you about the collab part. I think if you boil down a lot of collabs with hermits who don't interact as much it can be boiled down to "we discussed things off-camera and we'll just explain our plans to the viewers" and then a timelapse. Which, frankly, gets boring because I actually want to hear their thought processes when making a project together. I prefer their collabs to be "show not tell". Like how bdubs and etho swap an End Rod between each other, or the Head Games. But then again, they are individual content creators first so I can sorta understand
@Maxmilion60044 жыл бұрын
@@harayaalirak4040 yea. You make some pretty good points here that i didn't really think about. I do like iskall a lot too. But i do also agree eith the builds. Rewatching this for Season 8 which started a month ago. Season 8 is a single continent wherein starter bases are as close to another or multiple hermits, implemented the use of Proximity Mod, more custom items thru data packs (i.e. Scar's giant hat, BDubs' custom frames that came from S7, Iskall's No Wings Club medals, etc...), and custom commands. Plus the introduction of GeminiTay and PearlescentMoon as Hermits. And an ARG: The Hermatrix, featuring Docm77 and Rendog as main characters.

One of the things I didn't notice until I went back and watched the Season 6 again was that Grian's introduction did one more thing rather than just boost the people viewing the server. He was also the one to get Tag up and running, the Civil war, and in Season 7, the Mycelium resistance. These overarching stories are really entertaining to watch and the fact that a ton of people join in and get to spoof off of it is amazing to see.

This made me start to think about which minecraft youtubers would be a good addition to Hermitcraft, but I really can't think of anyone. At the moment they're pretty complete and a good mix. Maybe some older members can return. Most well known mincraft youtubers are, as far as I know, already on Hermitcraft or another SMP and unlikely to leave that one. Others, like ibxtoycat won't fit within the concept of Hermitcraft. Maybe they can get people like Biffa to return. Someone like fwhip could also be reasonably interesting to at least take a look at.
Lets all admit that grian was the turing point in hermitcraft. And then the mumbo-grian combo made it skyrocket.

In his 1000th episode Xisuma says that Grian joining was the missing piece in Hermitcraft. And in S6 it really showed, Grian totally owned that season
@jasonreed75222 жыл бұрын
Grian was the chaos gremlin the server needed to really stir the pot and encurage player interactions. Instead of everyone being hermits hiding away at their bases suddenly someone forced them all into a game of tag that requires them to hunt eachother down, punch eachother and give the tag to the next victim. I think when they got the proximity chat was another leap forwards in the player interactions department as now you don't have to do anything to talk to someone you just bumped into in the shopping district or, you can very quietly sneak up on someone and yell Boo at them. (I think this scared the crap out of tango in season 7, that was a great moment) No more need to get discord going and worry about sound balance just to say hi real quick.

Ngl one my favorite parts about hermitcraft and the community (besides the hermits' work and fan content) is how little drama there is. As in _real drama_ between other communities and the hermits themselves. Even where there is a little spark of drama (like ppl threatening to unsub from false if she became mayor) the hermits handle it quickly and in a proper way where it doesn't become a big issue. Just goes to show how mature they are abt this stuff.

As someone who's watched Hermitcraft from Season 1 (Tea Drinkers!) and watched a ton of Mindcrack, I always felt the reason that Hermitcraft succeeded was because the players were Minecrafters, not Gamers. If you looks at biggest Mindcrackers, they were gamers who happened to be playing Minecraft at that point. Most of them are doing well on Twitch still, but are playing different games. That is the nature of Gamers (no insult intended); they like variety and like to switch up what play all the time. The thing about the Hermits is, they all seem to have that Minecraft stamina. They aren't a bunch of teens who play videogames. A lot of them are adults who came from jobs like computer programming and the such. It takes a special kind of creative stamina to be a Minecrafter long term, and most of the Hermits fit the bill. I wonder, if one were to do a poll of those who watch Hermnitcraft, how many fans would consider themselves gamers. I think it would be a low percentage. Much lower than your typical Twitch livestream fanbase.

I think you're right. Hermitcraft persists in large part because just enough of the membership truly loves Minecraft and has enough of a creative drive to make the grind worth it to them.

Almost all of the Hermits are veteran players, which is what caused Mindcrack to ultimately die off, since most of them only played Minecraft because it was the trendy game to play at the time, while the Hermits are people who have been playing the game for years.

The best way to find your next hermit to keep up with is the Hermitcraft recap, by giving just a clip and a joke for everyone they really help you get a sense for who does what and whats going on across the server because we can't all watch everyone because of time constraints. But my personal #1 watch as soon as i can is Etho, his videos just never disappoint. But my second main one is grian and his shenanigans as he gets around the server to most of the hermits. I know Grian + Mumbo is a very iconic duo but i hope they base a little farther apart this season (9) just to spread out the interactions to the rest of the hermits. (Maybe grian can pillage Tango's industrial district for once) I also would love some sort of Collab where etho builds a floating interior again and then grian or scar gives it an exterior.
