As a giants fan last year was an amazing year and I think that this giants fall really started when posey retired and I think it shows how good Posey was and how good of a leader he was for the Giants. Giants won 3 in 5 years with posey. The Giants have been lacking leadership all season.

@toms71142 жыл бұрын
The Giants don't have an ace right now. While Carlos Rodon and Logan Webb are very good starters they are not ace quality. They are both top tier 2 spot pitchers. Their next best starting pitcher is Alex Cobb and he is an okay 3 spot pitcher, then it is Alex Wood and he has only been a good 4 spot pitcher because of his massive inconsistency issues. The Giants don't have a single reasonable starter other than those 4 which is why they have been having so many bullpen games lately. While Doval is a great up and coming reliever, he is still growing into pitching in the majors. The only other bullpen pitcher that the Giants have that is consistently good is Brebia. Everyone else in the Bullpen for the Giants is too inconsistent this year. While Rogers is good for 2 quick outs every time he goes up to the plate, after 2 the batters have adjusted to his style and if he doesn't get lucky with a ground ball he struggles to get a third out. When it comes to hitting the Giants have always been a streaky team. This year the streaks haven't lined up. A lot of the problem with the Giants offensive has also come with the transition away from small ball into long ball only, which is a mistake in their ballpark. Their park is designed for a lineup with 2 long ball hitters and 7 hitters that are doing all they can to get on base and mess with the pitcher once there. That type of line up is how they won 3 Pennants in 5 years. 2 players who could go yard consistently and 5 or 6 who could get on base a lot with good starters and an excellent bullpen. The giants have too many players trying to go long and no support from the bullpen. In order for the Giants to be good they need to accept that for the next 4 or 5 seasons they will suck while they stock their farm system with talent so they can have another amazing 6 or 7 seasons before they repeat stocking their farm system again.
@jonnyt162 жыл бұрын
Thats a pretty good analysis of whats going on. I remember thinking last year, even during our great season, that relying on the homerun is not sustainable at all. And as predicted, it all came crashing down this year. Bruce Bochey knew and understood how to win with the Giants and it wasn't with the long ball. Losing the leadership and the huge positive influence that Buster Posey had didn't help this year either. I can almost sense that our pitchers just don't look quite as comfortable without Posey behind the dish.

@toms71142 жыл бұрын
@@jayboley9683 He isn't a Madison Bumgardner in his prime, he isn't a Tim Lincecum in his prime. Carlos Rodon is a great starting pitcher, but he doesn't have that something extra that makes him completely dominate on the mound almost every time he gets on it. I've seen Carlos Rodon dominate in a game before, but most of the time he is pitching you can see his control isn't even above 90%. He misses where he wants to put the ball a good 10% of the time and it is only luck that those pitches aren't slammed out of the park. Numbers aren't everything when it comes to evaluating the quality of a player. Carlos Rodon isn't an ace, but he is a fantastic starting pitcher that can hold the 2 spot in the rotation behind an ace and almost guarantee you the win in a series. For your starting pitcher lineup you want an ace in your 1 spot, and Rodon is not an ace.

Two major contributing factors you didn't mention: the abysmal fielding, which chewed up the pitching staff at times and magnified the lack of scoring; and Farhan Zaidi and the journeyman-heavy roster of marginal players he assembled. Zaidi owns a lot of the mediocrity and sub-mediocrity of this team. You cannot win in MLB with a roster of platoon players. Channeling Billy Beane circa 2002, Zaidi thought he cracked the code with 2021 and was proven wrong. Sitting on a pile of cash, he spent like it was coming out of his own paycheck. Ownership has seemed to prioritize their real estate development deals over respecting their extremely loyal fan base and status as a legacy franchise. A bitterly disappointing season on all fronts.

I'm sorry man but I disagree. Playing 162 games DEFINITELY has an impact on your post-season. You're more prone to injuries, tired from the wear and tear of the season, pitchers arms are more fatigued. It's why the rosters expand on September 1st so they have more players to finish out the season as well as create their roster for the playoffs and World Series. To say that the amount of games played in the regular season doesn't matter in the postseason is just not true. Hypothetically, let's say the Dodgers lost Clayton Kershaw, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman for the season...would you not agree that those three main impact players would make a massive difference if the Dodgers made the playoffs or not?

Are you sure 2020 wasn't the hardest to win? I mean players had 100 less games to get injured or burned out playing. I know it's not football but that long of a season must wear on every player, so you would think you're more likely to be fresh. Just saying, no asterisks.

It looks bad that the Dodgers haven’t won any other titles in this era. If they win one in a full season then the narrative will start to change.

I see how people can say that. But there were also more teams to fight in post season because expanded playoffs too. Every team started with the same 0 wins and 0 losses.

And their was an extra round to. People forget about that and being in an extra round increases the chance for mess ups and unlikely players and teams to get hot and upset top dawgs.. dodgers could have easily got knocked out in that extra round given how much times they have messed up in the past especially a team like the brewers who have a history of giving the dodgers problems but they took care of business

If it was Kapler, there would be a lot more incidents about it. Just think the loss of Posey was a big thing for them. A lot of people admitted he was the captain/leader of the squad throughout the years. A loss like that takes some time to get over, but as long as someone steps up in the last few games/next year, we should see something similar.

"Screw the unwritten rules." This sums up what is wrong with the game today. IGNORANCE. Too many people, including some major league mangers - usually outfielders - do not understand the game. The unwritten rules are shunned as some old relic written by boomers. No, the "unwritten" rules were not written by anyone. THE GAME, that is almost 200 years old, has written these rules for itself. RESPECT THE GAME. This game is a test of character and endurance. If you do everything the right way and, if your whole team bought in, you might be lucky enough to win it all. The guys that are the best in the MLB understand and play with respect. The great managers etc, all.. Albert never pimped a HR. Judge doesn't. Shohei is the personification of the right way.

Dodgers won bc they spent TONS of money and traded their prospects for top proven veterans, and they got Freeman for nothing! We stuck with mostly the same Pitchers and same line ups and what happened, everyone faded. Losing Posey & Gausman, were huge. Even though Gausman faded towards the end, he gave us quality starts. Clubhouse Presence is huge, Buster emanated winning and everyone in the clubhouse wanted to live up to it. I think we should have gotten Bart in to the lineup last year and made him the primary backup regular. Instead we made him the 22 starter, which made him feel the weight of filling in HOF shoes. Belt was injured as usual, Craw was off both offensively and defensively, Wade was hit with injury bug, and Yaz offensively seemed to decline bc he didn't have any bats in the lineup to protect him. I think the lack of youth and offense is hurting us, the infusion of young talent is what got us to those championship years as well as sustain it. International signings look good, but our MLB Amateur draft has not been producing yet, hopefully they will and the next Mad, Posey, or Lincecum, will be on the horizon. Wasn't impressed with this years Draft, hopefully, the prior ones will bear fruit. Look forward to next year Giants fans!

I’m a Cardinals fan and I really despise the Dodgers I really do but saying you have to put an asterix next to their championship isn’t right. Winning is winning, every team competed under the same conditions they did and the Dodgers came out in top. How does it go in Fast and Furious “It doesn’t matter if you win by an inch or a mile winning is winning” The Dodgers won (as much as it pains me to say)

It doesn't make sense for this team to win 107 games last year and then shit the bed this year to missing the postseason. Getting rid of Gausman for Rodon didn't make any sense since Gausman was already doing well. And Posey who was the heart and soul of Giants baseball, retires which I don't understand why. The team clearly wasn't able to perform the way they did in 2021. Farhan clearly isn't the right president and Kapler may not be the right manager. The Giants need young talent to build on instead of using up and wasting old people's careers. Mlb Teams should rely on younger talent to carry them not having a bunch of people aged 29-34 do so.

A major issue with the Giants is their division. They play in a division with 2 of the 5 highest spending teams. If they played in the NL Central or AL West, they would be way better. Personally I am not too satisfied with a .500 finish considering how much less they spend.

Too much old dead weight on this team. They don't have a catcher that can throw anybody out. Don't think Kapler is the right MGR for this team. Don't think the players have the same respect for him as they did with Bochy. Thought when Bochy retired he was probably getting burned out, but now he is with the Rangers I wonder why he left SF.

Kapler is very Woke and perhaps his politics is starting to wear a little thin with players. He also seems to use a lot of platooning depending of the matchups. This worked out well last year but not this year. He has Joc Pedersen, the teams only real power hitter playing part time , which is ridiculous. Hopefully 2023 will be a better year.

Us giants fans weren’t expecting to repeat last year but were hoping to make the playoffs. The only person I can see the giants signing this off-season is judge but that is going to be very hard. Another bullpen arm might be good and hopefully calling up prospects like Heliot Ramos, David Villar, and Luis Gonzales might turn it around for us. But we also need guys like Joey Bart and Mike Yastrzemski to step up and Brandon Crawford, Brandon belt, or Evan Longoria to fill in posey’s leadership role

no Posey means the heart and soul is gone. everyone was playing above their ability to get him another ring before he signed off. he was always the brains of the operation behind the plate. so really everything is going to suffer w/o him on the team. its over for this team until they do a full rebuild and that should have already began. I dont have much confidence in the current front office getting anything done bc the product they put on field each yr is well below league average. even the 107 win team played 20+ wins above their talent.
