Wei Jianjun, the helmsman of Great Wall Motors, has established an unignorable presence in China's automotive industry with his low-key and pragmatic style. From taking over a debt-ridden Great Wall Motors to transforming it into the world's top-selling pickup brand and leading the domestic SUV market, Wei Jianjun has driven Great Wall Motors to success and glory through unique management strategies and a dedication to technological innovation.
Is this true? Dear audience! Welcome back to our channel! We're delighted to engage with you in today's discussion topics:
1. What was the biggest challenge Wei Jianjun faced in managing Great Wall Motors, and how did he overcome it?
2. What specific strategies has Great Wall Motors implemented in R&D investment, and how have these strategies impacted its market competitiveness?
3. How has Wei Jianjun eradicated corruption and reduced costs through stringent corporate management, and what does this mean for Great Wall Motors' long-term development?
Today's focus is not on BYD or Geely, but on Great Wall Motors, whose pickup sales have reached the top worldwide. Wei Jianjun, the owner of Great Wall Motors, is the only prominent figure in China's automotive industry who played with racing cars as a child and was once awarded the title of "Car God." Though low-key, Wei Jianjun is a significant figure in China's car manufacturing scene. However, with the constantly changing market environment, can Great Wall Motors maintain its leading position?
Great Wall Motors independently developed China's first diesel engine, achieving a full industrial chain layout to use for its own vehicles and supply to other car manufacturers. Leading in the SUV market, the Haval H6 has been the top seller for nine consecutive years. Wei Jianjun's successful management strategy saw Great Wall Motors exporting cars as early as the 1990s.
Born in 1964 in Baoding, Hebei, Wei Jianjun came from a military family and was a typical "second-generation rich." On his 20th birthday, his father gifted him a Soviet-made Lada car. Later, he earned the title of "Baoding Car God" for performing car drifting stunts at Baoding Airport. At that time, he even planned to become a professional racer.
In 1989, Wei Jianjun took over the debt-ridden Great Wall Motors Industrial Company, which was 2 million yuan in debt. Not only passionate about cars, he accumulated funds by buying old and repairing. After taking over, he quickly turned the company profitable and began considering car manufacturing. He also hired Wang Fengying to handle marketing.
