Battlefield 2042 was never meant to be an actual battlefield game like 1,4, or 5. It was meant to be an apex legends/ battle royal/ escape from Tarkov/ overwatch/ rainbow six/ slow, squad-based, think before you shoot game. It’s only in the middle of creating the game they realized it wouldn’t sell well at all. Upon realizing that fans have been expecting a modern battlefield 4/1, they saved all the assets they could and lied to the community. Instead of releasing hazard zone as it’s own game, they decided to sell a lie. That’s why there’s so little content to begin with: specific and named characters, fat maps with no cover, no special perks (bf1 and bf4), drop in vehicles, no leaderboard, no squad system, no team switch, and out of body execution animations (instead of the older battlefield games). This game was meant to be hazard zone by itself within the battlefield timeline. No all out warfare and no portal. They should have never lied and taken the L for selling hazard zone and just worked on an actual battlefield game after the release of hazard zone as a stand alone game.

2042 actually is horrible. Has a good feel to it, if you don’t really care abt skins and stuff the game is great. Every gun is unlockable as well and vehicle play feels good. Sniping feels good too, just expect to get beamed across the map with an AR a couple times.

Started playing BF1 a few months ago. 200hrs+ in and I'm in love with it. I have thousands of hours in BFBC2 with my father and I liked BF4 too. I tried BF5 many times but it felt shit, visuals are oversaturated af.

Agree with everything except for Hardline. I think Hardline is supremely underrated, and more than that, I think it's great. Still play it to this day and wish more people would so servers and game modes could increase (looking at you, Hostage mode). Forget that it's cops and robbers if that isn't your preferred theme, the maps and gameplay are among the best in franchise history. Downtown and Bank Job for the win!

@@M1zzyMaz Fair. One thing I'd add that I haven't seen any Battlefield covering channel mention; to me, one of the most glaring things lacking in recent Battlefield games is the voice acting/dialogue. BF3 thru BF4 had the most iconic, hilarious screams/lines. It's gotten lame.

As a 1942 vet who’s been playing and developing mods in the game since the first wake island demo, I played every title but hardline and bf1. I after battlefield 4, I quit playing and just recently joined and caught up with bf5 and 2042. Unfortunately, I missed bf1 which I regret, but currently I am enjoying bf5 big time

BattleField 5 is a great game, the customized tanks and aircraft are awesome. I still play today all the time. BattleField 1 felt amazing playing, I bought 42 the day it came out and it was literally unplayable.

I love 2042 and BFV but I agree with everything you say. Go back to basics. There will still be plenty of opportunity to make money and sell shit. Just get the immersive arcady/ grounded war atmosphere that BF is known for.

Imo they could remaster battlefield 3 or 4, add some of the modern qol changes and maybe some balance changes as needed and make bank. But they won't because EA hates having happy fans.

QoL changes like: -FoV Slider -Improved netcode -Improved destruction -Improved vehicle controls -DLC included in base game -Cross platform I for one would buy a BF remaster. This is a hot take but Battlefield 3 was the beginning of the end. Dice set the bar so high that even they failed to replicate it, Battlefield 3 was the peak of the franchise because it had something that the other battlefield games didn't have. it had character, style, charm and had the best balance between infantry and vehicle combat. Battlefield 4 was a huge mess at launch and had some awful map designs and favoured vehicle combat too much. it also had that controversial choice to significantly nerf weapon attachments that made majority of them redundant. Battlefield 1 was in my opinion peak dice, this is where they perfected the frostbite engine and produced one of them most immersive multiplayer games i've ever played. However, it missing that charm Battlefield 3 had. Battlefield is currently having a massive identity crisis because majority of the developers that made the masterpiece that was Battlefield 3 had left and moved onto other projects. AKA the finals. you can literally see and feel the battlefield 3 dna in that game. We will never ever get a game like Battlefield 3 ever again because modern gaming is catering to bullshit live service. 2042 completely missed the mark that made battlefield great. sure it has destruction, infantry, vehicles, large maps and an arsenal of weapons to play with. But the maps are so bad that it doesn't feel like you're actually fighting on a battlefield. The rush game mode in battlefield 3 was superb because if felt like you were fighting for something. you could feel the progression you and your team were making. and this is simply down to map design. good maps with good flow fully immerses you into the experience. RIP battlefield, gone but certainly not forgotten.

2042 was developed by amateurs, EA just flopped together a team from many different studios and gave them the formula to make a battlefield game to cater a live service formula. It had the biggest development team in history for EA, all that work force and they still couldn't do it. Why? because the heart and soul was missing, the original developers in DICE had jumped ship. WIthout them, the love and care for the franchise disappeared. Yes we may get a good battlefield game eventually... but 2042 is proof that EA don't understand the franchise. and we all know EA, they don't learn from their mistakes. Skipping Vietnam, 2142 and Hardline? Vietnam first introduced helicopters, jets, modern-ish infantry weapons. 2142 was the basis for all future class systems and squad perks Hardline had one of the best customizations in series, introduced mechanics like picking pouches of medics and supports, refined levelution system and made it better than Dice. Forgetting some games of the series because "not real battlefield" is exactly the reason we are at the lowest point. Battlefield doesn't have a community because of it. Individual games do. Pointing at people and saying "your game is a product of greed, you are not a real fan", when every single game in the series was made to sell copies, dlcs and microtransactions is arguing in bad faith. Except of demanding BF4.5, we should look at ALL games and picked what worked in each individual one. You know, the thing that DICE and EA SHOULD HAVE BEEN DOING for past 20 years

Well obviously every game was made to sell copies, it’s a business at the end of the day😅 skipped Vietnam because battlefield 2 literally did the same things but better. 2142s little change to the class system isn’t a reason people loved battlefield and sure hardline was a decent game but as a whole went away from a lot of what was considered “battlefield” at the time. I chose games that I think were responsible for people falling in love with the franchise and the ones that clearly diminished battlefield position in the fps genre. I also never said that there should be a battlefield 4.5

@@M1zzyMaz I would argue air vehicles were better balanced in Vietnam than BF2. So no, I do agree Vietnam is very much a testing ground for future BF2 features, but it isn't "BF2 but worse". It had an identity of its own. Little? Turning 8 BF2 classes into 4 ones was a major shift in how classes were handled. EVERY SINGLE game after 2142 used the same principles. And "it isn't the reason people loved Battlefield" is not argument. Because 2142 despite the flaws was an amazing battlefield experience Hardline was more than decent. Lack of tanks didn't make it less battlefield or worse than BF4. Because in a lot of ways it was better. I know these are all opinions, but I truly think these 3 should always be mentioned in timeline of BF series. They are important, even if they were less popular I mean, "diminished BF position in the genre" kinda fits Hardline. Most people still hated it "Forgetting its roots" and "we want an experience like BF3 and BF1". You did mostly talk about "the feel" like atmosphere and "being a soldier". But at the same time you clearly implied you want "the glory days" back. Ain't gonna happen if we start picking favorites. Which you did, while disregarding games based on "impact" on the market.

The marketing of bfv may have been bad, but honestly, so was the game. Going into game as a service territory, that actually lead to less content, bad recoil mechanics, the point of aim not tied to the center of the screen, alot of the maps had bad flow, even in conquest, ttk changes nobody asked for or wanted, gun play overall was dull, unnecessarily slow animations while climbing. It just felt sluggish.

I do agree with your point, especially the live service part and the map design, you get spawn trapped on so many of the maps on that game and they just don’t play that well overall. And like you said the countless TTK changes which no one asked for😂

@@Elendil_41 the only good thing about the movement was the slide, the infantry combat was dull and the skill cap was lower than the IQ of the ppl who enjoyed it. It was really a shitty game. The point of aim was not tied to the center of the screen, the gun play boring and had 0 depth, the maps sucked, the planes sucked. It was overall a bad game. Even roblox pvp is better than 2042. That says nothing about bfv.

I don't think so I have most fun in bfv comparing to bf1 and 2042, i played bf1 like 1000 hours but played bfv like 2000+ hours because of gunplay and movement mechanics.It has some issues that's right but it is technically still decent battlefield game.I don't like bf1's gun mechanics but atmosphere better in bf1.

@@Elendil_41 well, it is boring. Not as bad as 2042, but bf1, BFH, Bf4 and bf3 have way more depth and a way higher skill cap on gunplay. There is literally nothing to learn or master in bfv. It's boring and unimaginative. There is some horizontal and vertical recoil and that's it. I can spray across the whole map, if it wasn't for damage drop-off. I have played a ton of battlefield, and skrimmed the hell out of bf4 and bf1. I don't care if it's easy for you to learn and therefore you enjoy it more, because you can't deal with an actual implementation of gunplay.

It all was a steady downhill since after Bad Company 2. Bad Company 2 was the absolute peak. Bf3 was decent. Bf4 was just a bf3 expansion pack and it's been worse and worse after that

It always confuses me why everyone says 2042 is dogshit while battlefields 3 and 4 were like the greatest ones. I played all 3 at launch and let me tell you, it’s the same in almost every way. All 3 launched bugged all to hell and then overtime became great. You can hop on either one of those games and have a great time.
