Jarrod, so awesome to have you back with the band. Your Blue Sky Research work was amazing.. I mean amazing. (I’m a drummer). BSR is an autobiographical album for me. If someone made a movie of my life, the entire album would be the soundtrack from 2005-2008! I loved hard music but your exploration into BSR coincided with me liking more melodic groove metal. I can REALLY hear the Pantera influence in a song like Poem.

And yes, I know Poem was on Welcome, just wanted to mention that.

Blue Sky Research is a musical masterpiece. I remember purchasing the record in 2005 and putting it in my CD player on a bus ride home. I could not believe how different and soothing nu metal could be. Still listening to the record 20 years later.

Good video, thanks for all the history! Taproot was the first band I ever saw, I was probably 14-15. They opened for Linkin Park at the Showbox in Seattle. I had no idea that night was going to change the course of my life and I would be a total show junkie from that point on. It was a great time! January 26th, 2001!

Taproot is one of my very favorite bands. I am not shocked at Fred Durst's upset especially if Interscope was his label, however, very unprofessional of him. He sounded like a spoiled brat instead of a fellow musician happy to help them find their way even if it was with a different label. And if Mike didn't want to come back after settling down, thats just fine, but why be upset that everyone else is ready to get back out there? Wish them the best and be happy for them. It's life. Life's direction can change quickly. I think it is fantastic that members of Taproot took time off to take care of themselves, and their families for a while instead of having their lives fall apart while they were thousands of miles away on tours. We are all regular people in this world, some just have talent deserving recognition like Taproot. ❤❤ Very informative and interesting video! 👍

Steve is a genius songwriter and a badass in the studio, but his voice isn’t for everybody… and his live performances were always lacking. His one dimensional growl, his flamboyant vibrato, his childlike lyrics, and his corny compulsion to act out his lyrics on stage are things that I feel have always held them back from the big show.

The problem with Blue Sky Research and Our Long Road Home was that at the time, they sounded like EVERY other band on the radio. Gift blew up because it sounded unique. It's no coincidence that they fell off when they started chasing the popular sound of the time instead of developing the sound that they created. Not trying to knock them or anything, they seem like good dudes. It's just my analysis based on what I saw and heard at the time.
