I disagree with his take on that because of what happened after the war and Germany becoming successful afterwards. He is conflating correlation. Just because people after a horrible event decided to take a different route doesn't mean that they would take the same route if the horrible event didn't occur. It is a possibility but the way he describes it is that it was inevitable.

If only we all understood fascism and evil at that level. Most of the Germans were decent humans that got caught up in a cult and an idea. It can happen to literally ALL of us. The vaccine is to acknowledge the complexity and nuance of social structures, people, and reality as a whole. Here in the US, at least, many people are abandoning nuance for simple explanations and solutions on both the American left and right.

This is unneeded apologetics for Germans. Germans - as a generalization - were bigots who were vying for national socialism since medieval times and raging ethnic total war for centuries. They were waiting for Hitler and he was embraced enthusiastically and suicidally. Germans were reformed by the redevelopment of German education per Potsdam conference and the present occupation of the country by 100,000 troops, 60,000 of them Americans and trillions in military hardware.

It may not have existed during Holy Roman Empire like Germany, but it was an active philosophical tradition right alongside Germany's antisemitic notions of Bruno Bauer, early Marx/Engels, Adolf Stoeker and the like. For example, American socialist George Fitzhugh can be credited a more eloquent version of marxian law of exploitation over 2 decades prior to Marx's debut of the idea... all the while justifying the needs rather than wage basis of US chattel slavery with this ideology.

This is a dumb conclusion to take away from this video, all politicians simplify and dumb down what they say to some extent. All ideologies are boiled down to a few simple axioms and principles. In a way, by dumbing down his explabation of fascism, Yuval makes people fall into idiotic conclusions. Does that make him a fascist ? Haha

Yeah. Absolutely agree with MOST of his points. But post-WWI, Germany was brought to its knees by the Allied powers & was forced to pay crippling reparations for causing the war. This led to massive inflation & an insurmountable debt. Germany started to crawl out of that debt in the late 1920s, but then the depression hit & really upended its economy. Hitler was already on the scene, but in the 30s, when the Germans were again brought back to abject poverty, Hitler's message of "we should no longer be victimized" & Arian racial supremacy really caught on with a socially & economically depleted German republic. And so the Weimar republic became the Third Reich. It was after that, that the Allies realized that if they economically deplete their enemies, it will lead to civil unrest & allow Hitler-types (fiction story tellers) to gain a following. Harari didn't mention that fact as a major reason why Hitler came to power.

Why: People had unresolved issues of losing and loss. How: Leaders helped people hold on to those unresolved issues and promised a brighter future, feeding them a growing addiction for pride. Then confidence was built upon that pride. To be wrong meant the people would lose the good feeling. Strongest in pride kept believing. Souls free of issues never create or need pride. Pride misses the target on love. Pride is a false emotion extra to an experience, like an invented bonus to compensate for a previous loss.
@TheQuangBang
@TheQuangBang Жыл бұрын
Could you explain further what you mean by that? Would you say that all pride is bad? I think it is an interesting take on pride.
@alanwest6949
@alanwest6949 Жыл бұрын
@@TheQuangBang This is what I have learned from my experience creating pride. The true emotions in the present moment for any good experience, is all I should need. When I live in the past with regrets, live in the future bad feelings like fear, or just hurt or feel dull in the present from unresolved emotional issues, none of these emotional states are correct for my experience of the present moment. The present moment was to feed me all the true emotions I need. I may easily miss out on one, many, or all of these true emotions, as the past regrets, future fears, and hurt emotions are discolouring every experience in my day. The quick fix is to create pride as a kind of self love, as compensation, for not yet discovering the cause is the unresolved emotional issues. I guessed what I was meant to feel and paid myself the good feeling, hey this feels good, this is rewarding, I can make some more and enjoy it again, yes I like it, I’m good, yes it was good. I went on to the next experience, where I again avoided dealing with my issues. The reward isn’t true though. Sooner or later the present moment includes truth which will save me from the false emotional state of pride. Pride is a falsely elevated good feeling, so a momentary loss means returning to discover my unresolved emotional issues. I was atheist, I didn’t know I could heal the issues myself. I thought I just needed more love, more pride, more…. And so the unresolved issues with pride became my ‘fire’, which was an addiction to working, driving me to do ten times what I would do, until I burnt out. That was using pride for good things and it was baaad. I healed so much since then. I’m learning to appreciate true emotions of experiences. All countries in WWI had unresolved emotional issues to deal with, all at the same time. Populations easily lost pride in their identity as a country. This was good, they were saved from false emotion. But it meant falling back to their unresolved issues. The ‘right’ prideful leader with many unresolved issues, would easily be the catalyst for leading a population in avoiding their unresolved issues. Without Hitler, many would have never followed the path to developing a fire using unresolved issues and pride.
@alanwest6949
@alanwest6949 Жыл бұрын
@@TheQuangBang So.. Yes I’d say all pride is bad. It was just a first idea for a quick fix, before learning more about life and my soul. I should not have run with it for as long as I did. I wasted years in a kind of emotional delusion, missing out on the true emotions for experiences. I guess a blue pill kind of fantasy reality. With the right people around me supporting our collective pride, I would have easily elevated to grandiose levels. Overcoming adversity would become frequent for us, when in reality we’d all be finding ways to run from unresolved emotional issues, the day would come when the only way to stop this adversity which keeps killing our pride, is to eliminate the source, the enemy. Healing all the unresolved emotional issues moves me to a place of love. I get to glow in my heart with love. I can now have true experiences and develop my soul.

Not sure I 100% agree with this take. One main reason Germany prospered so much after the war was because: A) they were needed as a bulwark against the Soviets, so B) the country was almost completely rebuilt from scratch and they could start over. A fresh start may not have been possible after WWI.

The argument that Germany didn't need the war to be successful because they were successful despite losing the war is false. Without the war, the US would never have pumped tens of billions of dollar, bankrolled the entire security of western Europe to defend against the USSR. Germany would have continued paying the punishing reparation for wwi. The war mobilization of the entire Europe and subsequently the US was what pulled us out of the great depression. So yes, third Reich might not have been necessary, but wwii woild have come sooner or later.

When Yuval uses the Christian misunderstanding of the devil (Satan) and then claims that Christianity got the understanding right, which is completely wrong right away. Christendom got the whole Satan vs God fiasco completely wrong to begin with. There is nothing in TaNaKh (the Jewish Scriptures) that depicts Satan (devil) as being attractive/ beautiful, instead that is a Christian claim that was taken out of context by using what was describing other individuals in Scripture. Christendom uses Ezekiel 28 as proof, but instead the chapter and verse is speaking about the king of Tyre. This is a common practice of Christendom, taking the word God completely out of context and creating their own religion, their own eisegesis. The fact of the matter is, Satan has no freewill, no angel of God does. Satan is merely an employee of God, an agent, whose job is to entice an individual whenever they make decisions in life so that he can charge you in the heavenly court, much like a prosecutor. Claiming that Satan is evil is claiming that in heaven evil exists. This is absurd! Instead, God is the creator of good and evil. Isaiah 45:7 “I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, YHVH do all these things.’ Deuteronomy 30:15-19 “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, in that I command you today to love YHVH your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and YHVH your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess. But if your heart turns away so that you do not hear, and are drawn away, and worship other gods and serve them, I announce to you today that you shall surely perish; you shall not prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to go in and possess. I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live…” Freewill is within your grasp. God allows man to become enraptured with false religions for the same reason He permits a married man to become attracted to women other than his wife. Again, freewill is within your grasp. Virtue is only possible when sin is alluring. Therefore choose life. Christendom has gotten everything wrong right from the get go. Claiming otherwise only tells the knowledgeable that you never did your homework properly. And the evidence is staggering. And the time to realize this, and much, much more, is now.

@timothya.olmeda7299 Жыл бұрын
@@cardroid8615 That was my point, he claimed wrongly from the get go. Christendom has no authority whatsoever over TaNaKh, which is Judaism. Christendom is what is known as a failed marriage, because not only is all three Abrahamic religions married to God, but Christendom also has a mistress on the side, a boyfriend (Jesus). Huge mistake! Isaiah 45:20 “Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, you (the children of Israel) who have escaped from the nations. They (the gentile nations) have no knowledge, who carry the wood of their carved image, and pray to a god that cannot save.” As it turned out, the jesus character has been a carved image of all sorts for over two millennia now. What a conundrum for Christendom! If Christendom couldn’t get this right, what makes you think that they got Satan right?
