I think so many people think of Bret Contreras as the "Glute Guy" that they forget that he has a lot of information to give (years as a trainer, has written books and has a PhD). What I didn't know is that he's also a comedian. This is one of the funniest videos I've seen. Between the "you can't fire a canon out of a canoe", " what you feel is a lie", " don't you get cute with me" and the side view of the mullet wig this tickled me to the core of my being. But he makes some really good points.

i laugh when i see the marketing of "glute" expertise - hey give the kids what they want though! he's my go-to when it comes to research and citation of sources - Bodyweight Strength Training Anatomy is incredible and a crucial reference "in my book" 🎉 haven't watched this yet but i can't wait for a little "read" hahaha... reading is what? fundamental 🏋️😂

Sounds like a KZbinr I follow. 🤭 I mean, he’s a great guy…but if I’ve learned anything watching all these fitness gurus is that optimization isn’t everything. It’s good to grow in knowledge but don’t get so hung up on trying to be perfect. Just like what you do, stay consistent with it and try to improve over time. This video made me crack up! 😂

hi Bret, when I work out i totally feel the load on my left glute however the right one won't fire up, no matter what I do. I've bee trying single leg hip bridges, but my right hamstrings usually takes the job on this exercise. I suspect I have a "hip hike" on my right side, maybe a pelvis that is tilted forward... i don't know, of course I have a glute imbalance. Since you are a specialist on the subject, do you have any idea why it's so hard to me to engage my right glute during the exercises ? this happens even when I'm doing unilateral exercises. I should mention that when I'm seating I can totally squeeze the right side, but when I'm standing up I lose a little bit of the mind connection, and when I'm working out I basically have no mind connection with the weaker glute. So, again, do you think hip placement can affect glute activation ? Thank you very much for all the content you have on your channel.

Try looking up ways to relax your psoas. That might help.

Only a sports doc can tell you for sure, but I’d bet that this issue is either (1) related to a past injury, in which case time, rest, nutrition & stretching will help, OR (2) it’s largely psychosomatic, meaning you had a slight imbalance that became significant due to fixation, whether conscious or subconscious. A minor imbalance can be fixed with single-leg/ one-sided exercises. Beyond the physical, the mind has a very powerful effect on the body. Try 10 minutes of meditation per day focusing on healing & equalizing the muscles in your body. Imagine God/ universe/ higher power sending healing energy into you as you take deep breaths. I promise, your imbalance will improve. ❤

@@austinkonradI have the same issue and it’s been confirmed by my chiropractor . Lack of firing on left glute caused by my tight psoas on the left side . It’s such a tough thing to deal with! I’ve been trying to manage it for years. It’s something that just keeps coming back
